Welcome to the Riverside City of Albany, the only incorporated city of Dougherty County. This beautiful city is one of the most populated and most modern cities in Georgia.

It’s really blessed abundantly with natural beauty and has a lot of parks and garden. Historical areas like museums also are in abundance.

Observe marine life at the Flint RiverQuarium

Imagine a 5000 meter square aquarium situated on the banks of a river where you can witness sea animals in their natural habitats.  

This is exactly the concept behind the RiverQquarium opened in 2004. This huge aquarium houses many different marine life and other species. It is a beautifully blended ecosystem based in both freshwater and saltwater reefs.

Start your visit by visiting the Flint River gallery, where both freshwater and saltwater fishes can be seen. Another special highlight here is the live fish hatchery.

There are also caverns and caves in the Discovery Caverns area. Another area is the World of water where rivers from around the world and their similarities to the Flint River are showcased.

Alligators are housed inside the spring run Creek and the traveling exhibits are housed at the adventure center. The Cypress pond area it is an extremely special area where migratory birds they visit and are showcased.

Meet live animals at Chehak Park

Another huge Wildlife Park is the Chehak Park, which has been established since 1937. It was designed by the famous naturalist Jim Fowler. It is another example of a park which is housed in natural habitats such as Cypress swamps.

Most of the exhibits here are all endangered species or endemic species such as the rhinoceros, Cheetah black and white colobus monkeys, bears, zebras, bison, Bobcat, Bactrian camel and lemur.

It also exhibit a variety of birds such as Ibis, flamingos, by eagles, and ostriches. Another playful area is Ben's barnyard where visitors can actually interact in the natural habitats, such as climbing onto a Bald

Look at the planetarium at Thronateeska Heritage Center

One of the only few places in the world with a 40 inch full dome HD planetarium system is this beautiful Heritage Center focusing on preserving the history and science in southwest of Georgia.

The Thronateeska Heritage Center includes a history museum, a science museum and the planetarium mentioned above. It also has a rail car display, where various exhibits are kept.

The word Thronateeska itself is derived from the Native American language and means a village near the Flint River.

It is a great place to visit if you are going out with your kids who are in middle school or high school with a keen scientific eye since it provides a variety of useful information.

Learn about civil rights history at the Albany Civil Rights Museum

It showcases and highlights the struggles of the people who fought during the Civil Rights Movement. A special area has been dedicated to Martin Luther King Jr.

The best part is you can complete the tour along with looking at all the exhibits in about 1.5 hours.

A special experience is to watch the short film which is very beautifully made and inspiring as well. Moreover, the staff is very warm and friendly and they're excellent guides.

There is also a church located here where you can pray at the altar.

Art connoisseurs rush to Albany Museum of Art

Founded in 1964, this museum has seen a lot of places and a lot of changes during its entire tenure.

It is today a huge museum with the store, a 200 seat auditorium, a children's gallery alongside six other gallery spaces, as well as a classroom.

What makes the collection special is that there are traditional African art alongside some typical American and European paintings from the 19th and 20th century.

It has as many as 200 artworks on display. A large collection of sub Saharan art also includes collections like masks, pottery, baskets and sculptures on display.

An alligator Park is also made where little kids can play with stone alligators. The Riverfront trail is very beautiful to look at and makes for a small hike.

Spread over a huge area of six acres is another Riverside Park called the Riverfront Park. There is a Riverwalk here which is about 2.4 miles long where you can take a peaceful and calming walk.

The turtle Grove Park mentioned above is located inside this campus itself. There is also the historic bridge house located nearby.

The lawn is huge and beautiful, filled with lush green grass and makes for a great picnic spot. There are walking trails available too. So you can take a peaceful stroll and clear your mind.

Look at the natural beauty at Radium Springs Garden

The bountiful natural spring here throws as much as 70,000 gallons of water into the river every minute.

This makes for opulent, natural beauty due to the sheer magnitude at which the water is thrown. There is also a terrace and various small gardens inside the huge garden. A tree filled Park is also another resting spot.

The children's playground has a lot of swings and slides in various shapes and sizes. The walking paths are a hot favorite among daily walkers and joggers.
