When you live near a beautiful oasis-like George George Memorial Park, it’s easy to forget you’re in the middle of a busy township.
This 30-acre green space, which features a fountain plaza, playgrounds, and a picnic pavilion, has become my sanctuary of sorts.
One of the highlights of my day is taking those calming, early morning walks along the well-maintained paths.
I admire the immaculate landscape that I’ve come to associate with George George Memorial Park.
What I absolutely adore about this park is its versatility.

In fact, it’s such a popular location; that my own daughter chose it for her senior pictures.
I also enjoy watching the local kids have fun at the big playground.
My neighbor’s children, all under eight, love the swing set and the vast open area perfect for a game of tag.
The park offers enough shade tables, and the bathrooms are always clean.
Taking a fresh breath away from the city noise, I often find solace in the great outdoors.
And one of my favorite places to escape has always been the Wolcott Mill Metropark Historic Center.
The park is a true reflection of history, as it sits atop the scenic views of the Clinton River.
What I love the most about the Wolcott Mill Metropark is the tranquil and serene trails that wind themselves around the park.
It’s a real treat to wander these trails that are always well-kept by the dedicated Huron-Clinton Metroparks Association.
Getting your hands dirty at the demo garden or learning about different animals at Wolcott Mill Metropark Historic Center is a great educational experience, especially for kids.
My little nieces and nephews can’t get enough of it.
They also get a kick out of the bonus playground that has a tractor to climb on.
They always leave with the biggest smiles on their faces after a day out at the Metropark.
The biggest plus for me, though, is how peaceful it is.
It’s never crowded, making it the perfect retreat for some quiet reflection or a nice picnic.

With a bunch of restaurants, cool shops, and an always-welcome ice cream parlor within arm’s reach, this place is simply a paradise.
And the best part? It’s all available for free, thanks to the city’s management.
But what makes my heart flutter are the special events.
The park transforms into a lively hub with events like the Country Hop and Roll Concert.
The energy is infectious, the music soulful, and the crowd is always enthusiastic.
If you’re a fan of the old-world charm, Walter & Mary Burke Park hosts a car show featuring vintage beauties that’ll make you swoon.
And for nature enthusiasts like me, the sight of local farmers selling their fresh produce over the weekend is a sight to behold.
The park is always buzzing with families enjoying a day out.
Whether it’s swimming in the clear waters, fishing by the lake, or children giggling on the playground, it’s a picture of pure bliss.
The only hitch is the absence of bike racks, which seemed like an oversight considering the number of cyclists visiting the park.
And as a dog lover, I’d love it if they officially allowed dogs, too.
But when I see the park so well-maintained, the clean pavilion bathrooms, and the pride of our town – Michigan‘s largest flagpole standing tall, these minor issues seem trivial.
It’s a small price to pay for the joy this park brings to our community!
I’m always on the hunt for local spots that offer a bit of nature, and the Sterling Heights Nature Center never disappoints.
With well-maintained bike and off-road trails, it’s a destination I often find myself returning to.
Before you set off on the trails, make sure you visit the nature center itself.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve learned something new about the local ecosystem from the friendly and knowledgeable staff.
One particular lady went above and beyond to ensure my visit was informative and enjoyable.
Sterling Heights Nature Center which veers off the main bike path is my favorite.
It’s where you really get a feel for the wild side of Sterling Heights.
Just remember to bring some bug spray; the dense vegetation can attract all sorts of flying critters.
But the nature center is more than just trails.
Step inside, and you’ll find an array of exhibits showcasing local wildlife.
There’s even a giant fish tank filled with local species from our lakes.
Not to mention, it’s a fantastic place to celebrate birthdays with a nature-themed party.
The Sterling Heights Nature Center is open from 10 am during the summer months.
It’s pet-friendly and has clean restrooms, so you can comfortably spend the day exploring and learning.
At the risk of it no longer being our little secret, I highly recommend a visit to this hidden gem in Sterling Heights.

A while ago, I decided to test my limits and take some friends along to TreeRunner Rochester Adventure Park at Oakland University – a decision I’m glad I made.
The park boasted a slew of courses that ranged in difficulty and skill, which allowed us to step out of our comfort zones.
The staff there were not only friendly but also quite humorous, knowing just when to lighten the mood when things got too intense.
It wasn’t just the staff that made our experience memorable; the park itself was breathtaking.
We decided to go during the early evening and let me tell you; the forest was a sight to behold.
The lights that hung from the trees created a magical atmosphere that truly elevated our experience.
I can still remember the twinkling lights and the sound of laughter echoing through the forest.
But it wasn’t all fun and games.
The courses were challenging and pushed us to our limits.
One of my companions was initially terrified, but with some encouragement, they managed to overcome their fear, and by the end of the day, they were swinging through the trees like Tarzan.
Apart from being a fun outing, TreeRunner offered us a chance to bond over a shared experience. It delivered on the promise of quality time together.
We laughed, we screamed, we cheered each other on – it was an absolute blast.
I can’t wait to visit again and explore the remaining courses.

One of the things I appreciate most about living here is the opportunity to go to Dodge Park frequently.
Being a sports enthusiast, I often go there to play volleyball and in-line hockey. But it’s not just about sports, Dodge Park is also the perfect spot for a lovely picnic with family or friends.
Remembering the smiles on my children’s faces as they swung on the park’s swings or when they attended the Sterling Frights carnival is a joy.
They had the chance to take pictures with the pumpkin lady at the pumpkin patch, Mario, and even dared to enter the maze for some delightful treats.
The creative costumes that everyone wore that day were truly a sight to behold.
What’s more, Dodge Park is extremely family-friendly, with two different playground areas and multiple pavilions.
Important amenities like restrooms and a splash pad are readily available, and the latter is free for us city residents.
Walking and biking trails are abundant for those who love outdoor activities, and it’s worth mentioning that the park is dog-friendly, too.
Just don’t forget to keep your furry friends on a leash!
Furthermore, the city hosts a variety of events there, with my personal favorite being the farmers market.
The park is always clean well-kept, and the staff is helpful and friendly.
As a photographer, I find the park and its river absolutely breathtaking, and I often find myself taking photos of the beautiful sights or simply enjoying a bike ride.
It’s also a great place for a peaceful walk with my pup, and on hot summer days, we sometimes let him have a quick, refreshing swim.

Living nearby, I’ve always been enchanted by the playful cubs that frolic around before they move on to their new homes.
There is a unique beauty to it when you catch the animals in action under the azure blue waters through the underwater viewing tunnel.
Just a heads up, though: the tunnel can get quite crowded and loud at times.
Though the ice wall is no longer there (I wish they would bring it back), the Arctic Ring of Life still holds so much charm.
The staff is truly the backbone of this place, always keen to help and ever so polite. And trust me, the food there is quite good.
Visiting the Zoo always makes for a memorable day trip, especially if you’re in the company of a loved one.
And while you’re there, don’t miss the butterfly and bird buildings.
The architecture of these buildings reflects the time period in which they were built and is a sight to behold in itself.
And oh, the bears! They look so happy and healthy.

I often make a point of exercising in this natural fitness area, feeling the cool breeze against my skin as I break into a sweat.
Huron Park is also a hive of activity with the presence of a skate park and sports fields.
The sounds of children’s laughter echo through the park as they engage in soccer or baseball on those lush fields.
The park’s layout also includes a volleyball court, making it an all-round sports destination.
When it’s time for a break, I can always count on the picnic tables tucked away under the shed, a perfect spot to enjoy a quiet meal.
I remember one day, I noticed a stunning art installation on the building that serves refreshments and houses equipment.
It added a vibrant and artistic touch to the park, a testament to the local community’s creativity.

Did you know there’s a Disneyland right here in Hamtramck?
And no, I’m not talking about the one with Mickey Mouse and Princesses, but a vibrant, eccentric display of folk art that has turned a regular neighborhood into a hub of creativity and wonder.
I stumbled upon this magical place known as Hamtramck Disneyland one evening on my usual stroll around the block.
Although the Google marker can be a bit misleading, a quick walk around the block and a step into the alleyway behind the houses, and I was there!
It’s a backyard gallery like no other, teeming with assembled art pieces that can only be described as captivatingly eclectic.
Signs may say “no trespassing”, but let’s just say, that the creativity and charm of the place invite you to step in and marvel at the expressive artistry.
During my visit to Hamtramck Disneyland, I had the fantastic luck of meeting the artist responsible for restoring the art pieces.
He didn’t just give me a tour around the place but also shared insights into his current work-in-progress.
His passion for the art was infectious and inspiring.
They’re even looking for volunteers to help with restoration projects.
Not something you hear every day, huh?
Growing up in the heart of Royal Oak, I’ve had countless adventures in Starr Jaycee Park.
I can’t begin to describe the fond memories etched into my heart, from the countless picnic brunches to the myriad of games played on the vast sports fields.
On Sundays, the park is a whirlwind of excitement.
The air buzzes with the laughter of children boarding the tiny train.
The ride winds through the park, offering a unique perspective of the area.
It’s a sight that never fails to bring a smile to my face.
What adds to the charm of Starr Jaycee Park is the expansive disc golf course.
The course is well laid out with 18 pads and 9 baskets and is perfect for golfers of all skill levels.
The course is abloom with large trees, providing ample shade, and while the play is generally open, the markers could be spruced up a bit.
The park, however, isn’t just about the disc golf.
I always find myself captivated by the creativity that this park inspires.
Plays in the park are a regular affair, and the last time I was there, they were setting up stages for a new performance.
There’s something magical about theater under the open sky, and it’s an experience that I wholeheartedly recommend.
For families with little ones, the playground is a wonderland. Recently renovated, the play equipment is clean, safe, and inviting.
Nothing quite fills a Saturday like a day spent at our local park, Fort Fraser.
The wide, inviting green space, coupled with a hearty playground, makes it an irresistible destination for the entire family.
I’ve spent countless afternoons there, grilling and enjoying the fresh air while watching the children play.
The playground, a haven for kids, is spacious and well-maintained, which adds to the overall charm of the park.
Every visit, I see children gleefully climbing on the play structures, which, although they have somewhat wide chains, are still manageable for them.
The varied swings are a favorite among the younger kids, and the wooden concept adds a touch of rustic charm.
While it can be quite hot and sunny during peak summer, there’s a sturdy shade tree where adults can cool off while keeping an eye on the little ones.
It’s also worth noting that the stairs on the play structures are a bit narrow – something that larger kids might find a bit uncomfortable.
Fort Fraser also has wooden fences that help to contain the children’s play area, providing a sense of security for the parents despite the slightly reduced visibility.
Even better, there’s a public restroom, something I’m always grateful for during those longer park visits.
Every now and then, I take a leisurely stroll at the marvelous MacRay Harbor, a venue that never fails to astound me with its tranquility and vibrancy.
When you take that first step into this enchanting place, you are welcomed by a breathtaking view of the harbor and marina.
It’s always a delightful sight to see an array of different vessels docked and even some up for sale.
I’ve often found myself lost in the sight of people strolling around kids running wild in the onsite arcade and playgrounds.
The convenience at MacRay Harbor is top-notch.
They’ve got an ample parking area, and each slip has water and electric, from what I’ve seen.
The place is also secure, with a gated entrance and always a guard on duty, so you always feel safe.
But what takes the cake for me is the food. I’ve attended a seminar here once, and the food was simply excellent.
From the side salad to the Alfredo pasta and the Breaded Chicken Marsala with green beans, potatoes, and fish – every dish was a culinary delight.
The service matched the quality of the food, making the entire dining experience a pleasure.
And the view! Oh, the view!
Overlooking the bay, it’s the perfect backdrop for unwinding and enjoying a meal.
They also have several rooms for rent and an onsite restaurant and bar.
I’ve had friends who’ve rented a room here, and they’ve all had nothing but praise for the place.
Having lived in Macomb County, Michigan, for many years, I can honestly tell you it’s full of surprises.
Each visit, each experience, has added to my love for Macomb County.
It’s not just the places but also the warm and welcoming people that make it so special.
