The Lake Koocanusa Scenic Byway, which traces the Kootenai River, is a roughly 108-km route.
It’s a long, narrow lake nestled between evergreen-covered mountains.
The border between the United States and Canada cuts the lake in half, and the scenic Byway showcases the southern half of the reservoir.
You can also follow a side loop from around the western end.
Numerous hiking paths cross the Byway, and a round cycling trail begins near the Libby Dam.
