As a testament to “triumph over tragedy,” the Boll Weevil Monument is the only one of its kind in the world – a statue that pays tribute to an insect.

It stands in the middle of Downtown Enterprise as a reminder of the city’s victory in the early 1900s when the boll weevil destroyed much of the cotton crops, which was a predominant crop at the time, in the area.

The city, instead of cowering in defeat, diversified its crops, thus boosting the economy and saving it.

The monument, a woman on a pedestal with a fountain over her head, was built in 1919, the opening of which came with a joyous celebration.

Stop by the parade for some pictures during the day or visit at night to see it with lights.
