Stroll through Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens

There's something truly magical about my regular walks in the Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens.

Nestled in our lovely city, it's a colorful oasis that never fails to invigorate my senses.

While this botanical gem may not be the largest or most exotic I've ever set foot in, it's the one place I find myself returning to again and again.

Its captivating charm lies in its natural, free-style arrangement, a comforting departure from overly-manicured counterparts.

Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens seems to invite a relaxed exploration, offering a manageable size that's easy to cover in a leisurely two-hour stroll.

Each visit unveils an astonishing array of unique flora, their vibrant hues painting an irresistible canvas that makes for stunning photographs.

It’s the perfect backdrop for some quiet time or for those treasured moments with family and friends.

There's a delightful sense of community in the air, too.

Instead of a rigid entry fee, the gardens run on generous donations from visitors, making each trip feel like a personal contribution to the preservation of this natural haven.

The warm welcome received from the staff and volunteers at the beautiful new welcome center, complete with a charming little gift shop, adds to this inviting atmosphere.

The gardens are also a treasure trove for plant enthusiasts like myself, with a section dedicated to selling a variety of plants right in the heart of the garden.

There's nothing quite like bringing a piece of this enchanting place home.

And let's not forget our four-legged friends. This is one of the few places where leashed dogs are welcome, making it a true paradise for pet owners.

Pay Tribute to the Nation's Heroes at Veterans Memorial Park

There's something rather extraordinary about taking a morning walk at Veterans Memorial Park here in Port St. Lucie.

The air is crisp, and the sun casts a beautiful golden glow over the military memorials, a serene reminder of the immense sacrifice made by the brave men and women in our armed forces.

Truth be told, a stroll through the park is like walking through history itself; perhaps it’s a cherished spot for morning walkers and history enthusiasts alike.

Established back in 1984, the park is home to an array of military memorials, each with its own poignant story to tell.

The ceremonial pentagon, in particular, is a sight to behold.

A recent addition to the park is the two boardwalks, which, I've been told, will soon be connected.

This will open access to the picturesque botanical gardens, adding a touch of greenery to an already beautiful experience.

It's not just about the memorials and the boardwalks, though.

he park also offers amenities like clean bathrooms, picnic tables, and grills, making it an ideal spot for get-togethers and family picnics.

Next time you're planning a day out, consider spending it at Veterans Memorial Park.

Check Out the Train Models at Treasure Coast Model Railroad

Just around the corner in my neighborhood lies an unexpected gem of a place – the Treasure Coast Model Railroad.

It's a site that's more than just a club for railroad enthusiasts.

It's a testament to the passion and dedication of a group of individuals who have poured their hearts and souls into creating a world in miniature, and they've done so with astonishing detail.

Take it from me, the realism of these models is absolutely fantastic.

Every tiny tree, every station, every engine and carriage is meticulously crafted.

It's easy to lose yourself in the miniature world, especially when the trains get going.

The intricate layouts are a sight to behold, and each one has a different theme, making each visit a new experience.

I love taking my kids here.

They are wide-eyed with amazement every time, just as I was when I first stepped foot in the place.

The staff at Treasure Coast Model Railroad are always welcoming and patient, explaining the different displays and the work that goes into maintaining them.

Plus, the place is run entirely by volunteers, which adds an extra layer of charm to it.

This club, hidden in the heart of our neighborhood, has become a regular haunt for me and my family.

It's a great spot to spend a lazy afternoon immersed in a world of miniature trains.

Solve Mysteries at Escape Room PSL

From the moment you step into Escape Room PSL, your senses ignite with anticipation and excitement.

The ambiance seizes you from the mundane of everyday life and catapults you into a thrilling world where every tick of the clock counts.

The visuals, sound effects, and immersive themes are nothing short of spectacular, creating a cinematic experience that makes you the star of the show.

The challenges are just the right blend of thought-provoking and fun.

One memorable time, my family and I took on the Vortex room - a whirlwind of puzzles and effects that had us on our toes.

With our combined brainpower and the three free clues provided, we managed to escape with 20 minutes to spare.

The joy of solving intricate puzzles and the thrill of beating the clock was unparalleled.

Escape Room PSL has quickly become a favorite hangout for my friends and me.

Having conquered two rooms already, we can't wait to take on the final one.

Every visit brings a unique experience, new puzzles, and fresh challenges that always leave us craving for more.

It's not just an amusement center - it's a place where memories are created, bonds are strengthened, and everyday heroes are born.

Have a Down Time at Oak Hammock Park

There's nothing like a peaceful walk down the leafy trails of Oak Hammock Park.

The mature oak trees create a canopy that provides just the right amount of shade, making it an ideal spot for an afternoon stroll.

On my regular visits, I enjoy exploring the different paths that lead to hidden spots within the park, taking me away from the hustle of city life.

There's also a playground teeming with laughter and joy - a particular favorite for families in the community.

The facilities are well maintained: clean restrooms, and ample parking space right near the main building and the boat docks.

It's easy to see the city's commitment to upkeep and accessibility.

Oak Hammock Park's boat ramp is a go-to spot for boaters.

I've often seen them preparing for a day out on the water, their equipment shining under the Florida sun.

And if you're an angler, be prepared for the thrill of fishing in the park's waters.

The serene setting makes it a perfect spot for a quiet afternoon of fishing.

And if you're into photography like me, you'll find plenty of picture-perfect moments.

Whether it's the infamous Devil Tree or the serene canal, there's always something to capture.

I've amassed a collection of stunning photos over the years, each a memory of a beautiful day at Oak Hammock Park.

Play Ball Games at Lyngate Park

If you're looking for a slice of suburban serenity, you can't beat the charm of Lyngate Park.

It's practically a stone's throw from my house, and I find myself there often.

What first attracted me to the park were the well-maintained baseball fields.

As an avid baseball lover, nothing beats the excitement of joining in a spontaneous game under the park's floodlights.

And if you're more into basketball or tennis, Lyngate Park has got you covered with its well-kept courts.

Beyond sports, Lyngate Park has something for everyone.

The playground, newly revamped with rubber ground, is a hit with my children.

They can play for hours without me worrying about them getting hurt on rough woodchips.

It's also a great place to throw a party, the kids love it!

But the jewel in Lyngate Park's crown has to be the dog park.

The sheer expanse of it is enough to keep any canine companion happily entertained. There's plenty of shade, seating, and space.

My pooch absolutely loves it there.

And even if you're not a dog owner, the sight of the dogs having fun is a joy to watch.

Let Your Kids Explore Their Imagination at Whispering Pines Park

Ever had one of those days where you just need a breath of fresh air and a bit of respite from the daily grind?

Well, I have my own little sanctuary for days like that, Whispering Pines Park.

A real jewel tucked away right here in Port St. Lucie.

It's a kid-friendly haven where there's something for everyone to enjoy.

From climbing structures, swings, and slides for the kids to picnic areas and sports fields for the grown-ups.

The playground, oh, it's like an adventure land for the little ones.

It's massive, with up-to-date play equipment that keeps them entertained for hours.

My favorite feature is the 3-story tower, a real treat for the adventurous little climbers.

I have seen them light up with joy as they explore the tower, pretending to be pirates or princesses.

And the best part? The play area has separate sections for toddlers and smaller kids, so they can play safely while the older kids have their fun.

Another recent addition to Whispering Pines Park that I can't help but rave about is the pickleball courts.

These are so good that I took my brand new Core pickleball paddle and balls and spent a great day testing them out.

There's nothing like a good game of pickleball to shake off the stress of the day.

And when you've worked up an appetite on the courts or the playground, there are picnic areas around the park.

I've had some of my best grilling sessions here, flipping burgers while the kids are off playing. It truly is a perfect setting.

To top it all off, it's a great place to socialize and make new friends.

You'll always find a friendly face or a welcoming smile here.

The park has a vibrant community spirit that makes you feel at home.

Admire the Panoramic Vistas at Oxbow Eco-Center

All you need is comfortable shoes and a sense of adventure!

Oxbow Eco-Center is my go-to sanctuary Whenever I need to escape from the daily hustle and bustle.

Nestled in the heart of the Treasure Coast, this vast green expanse, just a click away at Oxbow Eco-Center, has been my retreat for the past decade.

The 225-acre Riverside reserve is nothing short of an ecological marvel, boasting a beautiful blend of ecosystems.

Whether it's the towering view decks that offer panoramic vistas or the well-defined trails that weave through the lush greenery, there's always a sense of discovery awaiting around every corner.

Remember, though, the trails can sometimes be a little tricky. After a good rain, certain segments may get flooded.

But as with any adventure, a small challenge adds to the fun!

The sustainable discovery center, a unique feature of Oxbow, is truly a labor of love and resonates with the center's commitment to ecology.

It's a great learning hub, especially if you're interested in sustainability and the environment.

Don't forget to bring bug spray, though, those tiny critters can be quite bothersome, especially if you are venturing into the deeper sections of the trails.

The shaded canopies that line the trails are my personal favorite.

They offer a cool respite on sunny days, making it ideal for a picnic or even a quiet afternoon of introspection.

Oxbow isn't just about serious hiking - it's an oasis of peace and tranquility amidst the urban jungle.

Catch the Sunrise at River Park Marina

I often find my way to the River Park Marina, a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Nothing really beats watching the Florida sunrise on a weekend morning while sitting on the park bench with a freshly brewed cup of coffee.

River Park Marina offers a multitude of outdoor activities.

I sometimes take my niece and nephew to the playground, which is always kept clean and has a variety of play structures for all ages.

It's conveniently situated just steps away from the picnic pavilions, allowing adults to keep a watchful eye while enjoying a lazy afternoon.

The park's boat ramp is quite a popular spot among local boat owners.

On a lucky day, you might spot a manatee or two lazily swimming past.

The nearby paths are perfect for a leisurely stroll or a more intense run, depending on your mood.

They wind through the park, offering breathtaking views of the river, which is a sight to behold.

The picnic areas provide an ideal spot for family gatherings, equipped with grills and plenty of seating.

Don't be surprised if you see a few friendly squirrels hoping to score a snack.

They're quite the charmers. In fact, it's hard to resist feeding them!

Go Birdwatching at Hillmoor Lake Park

Every day is an adventure when you Hillmoor Lake Park - a hidden gem nestled amidst PSL's medical district!

This park is my daily slice of paradise, offering me a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

The wildlife here is always bustling, and the sunsets are just magical.

Imagine biking down the lovely trail, basking in the beauty of the setting sun, or working out at one of the various fitness stations, all while being surrounded by nature's splendor!

The park has a 1.8-mile paved multipurpose trail that encircles the enchanting Hillmoor Lake.

Yes, it does flood during the wet season, but isn't that what makes nature so unpredictable and beautiful?

The lush greenery here is a treat for the eyes, with an array of native trees and some Florida-friendly exotics.

Sadly, it also houses some invasive non-native plants, which I hope the park officials take care of soon.

Hillmoor Lake Park is a bird watcher's paradise, with a healthy variety of birds adorning the trails, boardwalks, and pavilions.

And let's not forget about the turtles!

Despite the warning signs advising otherwise, they are quite friendly and seem to think every visitor is here to feed them.

But it's not just the turtles you need to look out for - this park is home to alligators too!

So, my advice? Stay on the platforms.

The park is always well-maintained, and the exercise equipment, cute little bridges, and tranquil atmosphere make it a perfect haven for leisurely walks, family picnics, or a peaceful day out.

Have a Picnic at the Sandhill Crane Park

Once you've been to Sandhill Crane Park, other parks simply pale in comparison. Just off Walton Road, it's a stone's throw away from my house and my go-to place for a leisurely afternoon stroll or a weekend get-together.

The park, inaugurated in 1992, is a breath of fresh air amid the bustling city life.

Sandhill Crane Park is a paragon of cleanliness, and I can't stress enough how much I appreciate this fact.

The baseball field, adjacent to the playground, is always well-maintained and is a hot favorite among the local kids.

The playground, with its unique climbing structures, keeps my own little ones engaged and challenged, making our visits an exciting adventure for them.

One of my favorite features of this park is the large covered pavilion area.

Equipped with benches and spotless restrooms, it has become our family's preferred spot for picnics.

The designated smoking area ensures a smoke-free environment for us and our children, adding to the overall pleasant experience.

The park is not just about fun and games; it also prioritizes safety.

The presence of surveillance cameras in the parking lot and around the pavilion is reassuring.

On special occasions, like the Retired Law Enforcement Barbecue, the pavilion proves to be an excellent venue for large gatherings.

But it's the unexpected encounters that often make my visits memorable – like the sight of two Sandhill Cranes gracefully welcoming us at the entrance one sunny afternoon, or the exciting side canal hike with jetskiers zipping past us.

Take Snaps around Savannas Preserve State Park

There's something magical about living just a stone's throw away from the Savannas Preserve State Park.

It's my retreat after a rough week, my hidden paradise in the heart of Florida.

Spanning over 10 miles of coastal marsh reserve, this natural wonderland is an outdoor enthusiast's dream.

During one of my many visits, after a week-long downpour, we found ourselves turned around a few times.

But believe me, the vibrant foliage that awaited us was every bit worth the temporary confusion.

The wildflowers were in full bloom, painting the landscape in shades of purple, yellow, and pink.

And oh, those long-range views! It felt like stepping into a live canvas.

Then there's the canoe launch, just .75 miles from the currently under-renovation Environmental Education Center.

Although the trails were starkly underwater on my last visit, the calm water made for a perfect canoeing day.

It's also one of my favorite spots to launch my kayak. Just a word of advice, if you're planning to bike, heavy rain might limit your trail access past the second bridge, which is just a couple of miles in.

The park also offers well-maintained trails that range from wide and stroller-friendly to narrow and challenging for the more adventurous among us.

It's my go-to hiking spot on weekends.

And if you're a photography enthusiast like me, you'll find endless subjects in the surrounding nature.

While  Savannas Preserve State Park is a haven for outdoor activities like canoeing, fishing, and hiking, don't forget to stop by the picnic tables near the launch area.

They're the perfect spot to take a break, enjoy a snack, and take in the tranquility of the preserve.

Even the pit toilet was surprisingly clean and well-maintained during my last visit.

Living near the Savannas Preserve State Park is like having a piece of untouched Florida right in my backyard.

Despite the occasional challenges, the rewards are endless.

From the vivid wildflowers to serene canoe rides, every visit is a new adventure waiting to be discovered.

Go Camping at McCarty Ranch Preserve

Every so often, you stumble upon a place that you can't help but fall in love with, and for me, that place is McCarty Ranch Preserve.

Its serene surroundings offer a little slice of heaven right here in Port St. Lucie.

I've always been an avid birdwatcher, and the abundance of bird species here is truly a sight to behold.

Their chirping acts like a soothing symphony that drowns out the noise of the outside world.

One of my favorite pastimes is to grab my fishing rod and head out to the lake.

Nothing compares to the peace and tranquility of waiting for a bite while surrounded by nature's beauty.

However, a word of caution, don't forget to pack a repellent.

When the sun goes down, the mosquitos do come out in full force.

But the McCarty Ranch Preserve is not just for the peace-seekers; it's great for adventurous souls too.

The place offers a short hiking trail and a bicycle trail, perfect for a quick getaway from city life.

And if you're in luck, you might spot some large deers and a family of hogs while you're there.

The tent campsites and the RV sites are cozy and private, thanks to the surrounding vegetation.

And the signpost warning about alligators? It's not just for show.

This is a real, live-functioning ecosystem we are privileged to share.

Let Loose at Defy Port Saint Lucie

My family and I have been thoroughly enjoying our trips to Defy Port Saint Lucie for over a year now.

We've invested in a basic membership, and it's been worth every penny!

It's been incredible to witness the transformation and addition of new, dynamic activities designed just for the kiddos.

Even my youngest, who's only a year old, gets to roam around and enjoy the festivities (once I signed off his waiver, of course!).

Defy is a loud, energetic playground where children can let loose and just be themselves.

It's an indoor haven with air conditioning perfect for those hot summer days.

My 4-year-old son absolutely loves it.

Imagine an entire area filled with dodgeball courts, slides, swings, foam pits, zip lines, obstacle courses, and trampolines.

It's a dream come true for any child who loves to run, jump, and climb.

As a parent, I can either join in the fun or opt to relax in their comfortable seating area, enjoying the cool breeze from their amazing air conditioning system.

The staff at Defy are always friendly, and they have a keen eye for ensuring the safety of the children.

They've even made some renovations recently, and the place has always been kept clean.

I foresee Defy being a place where my daughter will continue to frequent even as she grows older.

I believe that acquiring a membership is a great investment, especially with the numerous school breaks throughout the year.

See the Vibrant Wildlife at Riverwalk Boardwalk

Trail of Riverwalk Boardwalk
Cavan-Images / Shutterstock.com

A touch of tranquility amidst the bustle of the city that's what Riverwalk Boardwalk is for me.

You know, there's something magical about this place.

It stands as a symbol of beauty and serenity, growing much larger over the last 35 years.

The first thing you'll notice about the Riverwalk Boardwalk is its immaculate grounds.

The grass is always green, the plants vibrant, and the entire area is so well-maintained that you can't help but admire it.

Not to mention the wildlife.

It's a delight to catch sight of a playful squirrel or a majestic heron during my walks there.

It makes the place so much more than just a pretty face.

But the real treat here is the boardwalk itself.

Wide, clean, and sturdy, it stretches out over the water, offering breathtaking views of the river.

You can sit on one of the many benches, breathe in the fresh air and just lose yourself in the beauty of nature.

There are trash cans and recycling bins placed strategically, ensuring the place keeps its pristine look.

And if you're a fan of boating, you're in luck.

The boardwalk has boat ramps where you can launch your boat into the water.

Add to that the existence of bathrooms, pavilions, and ample parking space, it's clear that someone put a lot of thought into creating this place.

Now, don't worry if you notice a bit of construction going on.

Like everything else, the Riverwalk Boardwalk is evolving too.

But even amidst the occasional construction, its beauty remains untouched.

Immerse Yourself in Art and History at the Elliott Museum

Every now and then, when the sun shines a little too bright in sunny Florida, I find myself seeking refuge in the cool, inviting interiors of the Elliott Museum.

It's a place where history meets art, and interactive exhibits bring the rich cultural landscape of Florida to life.

The moment I stepped into the museum, I was immediately captivated by the impressive car collection.

As an automobile enthusiast, this was like a treasure trove for me.

The cars, with their polished chrome detailing and lustrous coats of paint lined up in immaculate rows, were a sight to behold.

The museum's unique system that lets you select and bring down cars from upper levels only adds to the whole experience.

But it wasn't just about the machines.

The Elliott Museum was also home to a stunning array of art pieces.

The section titled 'Everglades through Pictures' was particularly enchanting.

The artistry and the narratives they spun were simply mesmerizing.

Additionally, the museum housed an extensive selection of paintings by The Highwaymen.

These works, deeply rooted in Florida's heritage, brought to the fore the untold stories of the state.

Each stroke of the paintbrush seemed to whisper tales of eras gone by.

The staff at the museum were the cherries on top of this delightful experience.

They were friendly, knowledgeable, and always eager to help.

They added a personal touch to every exhibit, which truly made the visit unforgettable.

Jog at the George LeStrange Preserve

Gorgeous sunset at George LeStrange Preserve

I don't think I've ever felt as relaxed as I do when I'm strolling down the tranquil paths of the George LeStrange Preserve.

Nestled away in Fort Pierce, it's a little slice of serenity that's a stark contrast to the surrounding city life.

And the best thing about it?

It's practically hidden away, like a personal sanctuary waiting to be discovered.

You wouldn't believe the variety of wildlife I've encountered here.

From the wise stare of an owl to the slow, steady crawl of a tortoise, the diversity is simply astounding.

Each visit feels like a new adventure, with different species to spot and hidden corners to explore.

For those who appreciate a peaceful setting and the gentle hum of nature, this place is nothing short of magical.

George LeStrange Preserve also offers a fantastic 1.1-mile loop around the lake that's a favourite among joggers, including myself.

The feeling of running through this secluded trail, with the gentle rustling of leaves and the occasional chirp of a bird, is invigorating.

And for those who are more inclined towards a relaxed pace, there are plenty of areas to sit, unwind, and take in the stunning views of the lake.

But what I love most about this place is the fishing.

There's nothing quite like the thrill of a catch-and-release fishing experience in the lake.

And if you're up for a little adventure, there's a canoe launch too.

Splash Around at Sailfish Splash Waterpark

When the Florida heat becomes too much to bear, I know just the place to cool off - the Sailfish Splash Waterpark.

It's not just a waterpark but an aquatic center catering to the needs of both competitive swimmers and those seeking some refreshing fun.

Picture this - towering water slides that guarantee a thrilling ride and a lazy river that's perfect for a relaxing day.

But here's a little tip from someone who's been there.

If you want to get the most out of the open slide, you gotta do this - lie on your back, and cross your arms in front of your chest.

Do it right, and you'll zoom down the slide without a hitch. '

Get it wrong, and well...let’s just say you’ll be scooting down the slide more than sliding.

Also, the blue-covered slide is not for the faint-hearted, it's a fast, fun ride that's worth all the anticipation!

There's ample space to settle in for the day with plenty of chairs and umbrellas, but of course, the early bird gets the worm, or in this case, the best spot.

It’s a wonder how quickly those chairs fill up as the day gets hotter.

And talking about being hot, the hotter it gets, the faster those slides go!

As much as we love having fun, they prioritize safety here.

They are quick to shut down the park in the event of thunder and lightning.

If you have young kids, they'll absolutely love Sailfish Splash Waterpark.

There are numerous jungle gyms and buckets of water that keep the little ones entertained for hours.

And for those who enjoy a tranquil swim, the lazy river is just right.

Every year, the sky over our humble city is brought to life by the spectacular Stuart Air Show.

It's a wondrous event that our community can't wait for, an amazing tribute to past and present veterans and to the aviation community as a whole.

The Stuart Air Show is an unforgettable experience, full of gravity-defying aerobatics and heart-stopping stunts.

Being at the airshow is like stepping into another world, surrounded by the rumble of aircraft engines and the excited chatter of onlookers.

Volunteers and staff, including the fantastic "Dewy," work tirelessly to ensure everyone's safety and enjoyment.

Their diligence and commitment are truly commendable.

As a volunteer, it's heartening to see how everyone comes together in support of each other.

Even when the radio communications get a bit confusing, there's always someone there to lend a hand.

I was fortunate enough to work under team leader Chris Kerns, whose camaraderie and leadership made the experience all the more enriching.

Working with the Round Canopy Parachuting Team USA is an absolute thrill.

Their performances are some of the highlights of the air show weekend, drawing admiration and applause from the crowd.
