I have been frequenting this place for years, and every visit feels like the first.

Seeing beautiful hanging flower baskets as you walk in is an absolute delight to the eyes.

But that's not all. From garden plants, flowers, and shrubs to a great variety of seeds, you name it--they have it.

Their offerings have always kept me coming back.

But what truly sets the Garden Spot apart is its homemade jams.

Find Tranquility at Oconto City Breakwater Park

Sometimes, you just need a place to escape the daily hustle and bustle, and for me, that place is right here in Oconto, Wisconsin.

Nestled on the shores of the majestic Lake Michigan, the Oconto City Breakwater Park is my oasis.

A breath of fresh air and a visual spectacle, this park never fails to calm my senses.

The park is a haven for those who love to be close to nature.

I often sit on one of the many available benches, taking in the breathtaking view of the lake.

On days when I'm up for some activity, I grab my fishing gear and try my luck at the lake.

The thrill of catching the day's first fish is incomparable!

Not just me, but the park is a favorite among boating enthusiasts too.

The boat launches are always bustling with activity.

Once I'm done with my day, I treat myself to a meal at the DocSide Bar and Grill, located just a stone's throw away.

And, if I need fuel for my boat, the Hi-Seas Marina up the river has got me covered.

But it's not just about the activities; the wildlife here is spectacular too.

Late fall and winter evenings often bring in sightings of eagles and snowy owls.

It's a sight that leaves me amazed every time.

However, it's not all perfect.

The cell phone service leaves much to be desired.

But honestly, being disconnected for a bit just adds to the place's charm.

I often tease visitors, saying the signal is better out in the bay!

Oconto City Breakwater Park is not just a park to me; it's a part of my life, a solace, and a place to reconnect with myself.

It's a jewel in Oconto, and I'm glad I have it right here in my hometown.

Visit the Shop on Main

It's been a game-changer since The Shop on Main opened its doors.

Nestled in the heart of our historic town Oconto, it's more than just an everyday coffee shop.

It's where creativity meets comfort, a haven that welcomes you with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and an array of delightful treats.

Imagine an old automobile repair shop transforming into a fascinating hub where prime coffee is served, vibrant local crafts are elegantly displayed, and stoneware mugs are cheerfully clinking.

It's remarkable.

Their genius lies not just in serving good coffee but in fostering a space that resonates with the spirit of our community.

Something is soothing about sipping a lavender lotus drink while sitting in a cozy corner of The Shop on Main.

This specific drink was new to me but was an instant hit. The lavender flavor offered a unique, refreshing twist I've craved.

And while you're there, don't forget to try the turnovers.

Baked fresh daily, they're simply the best in town.

The Shop on Main isn't just about coffee and treats, though.

It's a place where you can find adorable trinkets and stylish decor.

On my last visit, I came home with absolutely charming earrings and a necklace that was impossible to resist.

This place is also large enough for business meetings and group gatherings.

My friends and I often huddled in one of their comfortable couches, enjoying our favorite beverages.

But no matter how busy it gets, The Shop on Main never loses its warm, rustic charm, making it a beloved spot in our small town.

Undeniably, The Shop on Main isn't just a coffee shop. It's a part of our community.

Go Bowling at the Good Place

Say goodbye to your typical Friday nights and hello to The Good Place. Yes, you heard it right!

Our quaint town of Oconto has a hidden gem that's not only a bowling alley but also a place that serves mouthwatering food.

The Good Place is the perfect spot, whether you want to hang out with friends or spend quality time with family.

Their bowling rates are surprisingly reasonable, and the food is simply delicious.

Meanwhile, their burgers served on authentic toasted buns are as good as any premium fast food burgers, if not better.

And they're priced just as affordably.

They certainly won me over; now, I'm a big fan!

Go on an Adventure at The Ruins Adventure Mini Golf & Ice Cream

Every summer, my family and I have made it a tradition to visit The Ruins Adventure Mini Golf & Ice Cream.

It's the perfect spot for us.

With our large family, there's always plenty of space to play and have fun.

We typically go for a second round due to the discounted price, and of course, there's nothing like ending the day with a cool scoop of ice cream!

The mini golf course itself is like no other.

For instance, the Mayan-themed design is fresh and unique, decorated with exciting features like decorative crocodiles, lizards, and even a tiki lodge.

Likewise, it's well maintained, with most holes being par 2, which makes for a quick and enjoyable game.

No windmills here - instead, some holes offer shortcuts and even a stream to carry your ball to the spot, adding an element of surprise and fun.

And the refreshments are incredible.

My favorite is the Chocolate Shoppe ice cream, but they also serve soft drinks, beer, and booze pops for those looking for something more substantial.

Once, we decided to take a break halfway through our game and indulge in a slush/ice cream drink.

To say it was delicious would be an understatement!

It's also a great place for introducing little ones to the game.

My twins first tasted mini-golfing here, and they loved it!

Navigating the course and discovering secret plays on the holes made for an unforgettable experience.

The Ruins Adventure Mini Golf & Ice Cream is a part of our summer that we always look forward to, a family-friendly spot where memories are created, one swing at a time.

Every town, they say, has its charm, and in my case, the appeal of my town is the nearby Copper Culture State Park.

This small yet fascinating state park has become my favorite spot for a quick escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

It's a gateway to a civilization that thrived over 7,500 years ago.

One of my favorite aspects of the park is the copper culture museum.

This museum is small but packed with tangible history, including hands-on exhibits and a wealth of photographs.

Every visit feels like a step back into an ancient era when our ancestors first began making copper tools.

It's truly awe-inspiring to think about the origins of copper use and trade in the United States, which is beautifully explained in the museum.

While the museum is the crown jewel of the park, the smaller trails, picnic areas, and amenities are not overlooked.

I often enjoy a relaxing picnic there, complete with grills and running water facilities, which are rare in many parks.

And for those interested in a bit of a walk, the trails offer a tranquil stroll through the park's natural beauty.

Aside from these, the park is also home to a 4,500-year-old Native American cemetery, a testament to the area's historical significance.

While it might not be a significant tourist attraction, for me, it adds to the park's allure, providing a tangible connection to the local history.

It's a must-visit if you're in the area, a hidden gem that provides a unique blend of nature and history right on our doorstep.

Enjoy a Night to Remember at Shiloh Lounge

From the moment I stepped into Shiloh Lounge, it felt like home.

A place where the food is good, the owner is entertaining, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming.

You’ll understand why I’m raving about one bite of their food.

While the menu is worth exploring, the chicken gizzards are a must-try.

They are, by far, the best I’ve ever had.

The chef has a fantastic ability to transform a regular dish into something utterly delicious.

I enjoyed each bite, savoring the unique taste and texture, only to crave more.

And then there's the impeccable service.

The bartender at Shiloh Lounge is a mixologist extraordinaire, creating flavourful concoctions that are as delightful to look at as they are to drink.

But what's more commendable is the clean and friendly vibe that greets you.

It's an atmosphere that speaks volumes about the staff's care and attention to making sure every patron feels comfortable and at ease.

Whether you're in the mood for great food, a well-mixed drink, or a fun night out, Shiloh Lounge is the place to be.

This isn't just a spot for tourists looking for a good meal. It's a hub for locals like me who appreciate good food, company, and time.

Make a Tranquil Escape at Bond Park

There's nothing quite like a stroll down Bond Park to clear your mind.

The serenity of the place is second to none, with its lush greenery and the mesmerizing difference in hues as seasons change.

You can't help but feel one with nature in this beautiful area tucked away in our town.

Even though Bond Park is close to a semi-busy road, its tranquility is never compromised.

You can sit by the river on the opposite side and lose yourself in the soothing sounds of the flowing water.

It's a little paradise that has become my favorite spot for reflection, relaxation, and even remembering loved ones who are no longer with us.

Bond Park is a sanctuary, a haven, a place of solace that offers respite from the bustle of our daily lives. It's a gem that deserves to be cherished and preserved for future generations.

Visit Oconto Dockside

I've made it a habit to kick off my weekends at Oconto Dockside.

I've lost count of the times I've been here.

But I do remember my first visit was simply out of curiosity.

The lure of the best fish fry in Wisconsin was too good to resist, and I'll tell you, it did not disappoint.

The fish fry at Oconto Dockside is legendary, and I'm not exaggerating.

For instance, the fish's breading is perfect and crisp but not too heavy.

The homemade tartar sauce is a dream, with a tang that complements the fish beautifully.

And might I mention the breaded fries?

They are the perfect side dish. You must try the perch if you're a seafood lover like me. It's simply sublime.

One thing that sets Oconto Dockside apart from other dining places is the presentation.

It's also about the whole experience.

The package includes attentive service, generous portions, and a variety of choices.

Likewise, the view of Lake Michigan is enough to make any meal special, but paired with their food, it becomes an unforgettable experience.

A personal favorite of mine is their corned beef egg rolls—an unusual combination, yes, but one that works incredibly well.

As a side dish, I highly recommend the mashed potato pancakes - they're so yummy they'll leave you wanting more.

And for those with dietary requirements, they have a good number of gluten-free options as well.

Finally, my praise for Oconto Dockside wouldn't be complete without mentioning their Bloody Marys.

They are the best way to round off a delicious meal. So, if you're in town, drop by Oconto Dockside.

Take a Stroll Through Sharp Park

It's hard to resist the charm of Sharp Park.

I remember the days it was just another ordinary park, nothing too grand.

But now, Sharp Park has turned into our town's little gem.

The transformation it went through is commendable.

I'll always have a soft spot for this place, as it's become my go-to for my morning jogs or simply when I want to enjoy the quiet and breathe in some fresh air.

The pathways are well-maintained, making my runs smoother and safer.

Likewise, the trees have grown beautifully over the years, providing much-needed shade during sunny days.

Moreover, Sharp Park is where countless memories have been created for many residents.

Listening to children's laughter echo as they play on the refurbished playground always makes me smile.

Also, seeing families having picnics, friends playing catch, or couples strolling hand in hand, adds a special touch to the park's charm.

There's just something about Sharp Park that makes you feel at home.

It invites you and makes you part of the community.

Become a Regular at Irish Greens Golf Club & Restaurant

Every Friday night, like clockwork, I visit the Irish Greens Golf Club & Restaurant.

The environment is straightforward and unpretentious, with a large bar taking center stage.

Besides, there's a lot to love about this place.

The portions are massive, and the food is always delicious.

Add a price tag that doesn't break the bank, and you have a winning combination.

Live music is always a treat, whether playing inside or carrying on the breeze outside.

We will, without a doubt, be back.

Spend the Day at Oconto City Park

There's a certain charm to Oconto City Park.

It's a place I always find myself returning to, whether I'm hoping to enjoy a peaceful afternoon or looking for a fun-filled day with the family.

When you first walk into the park, your eyes are immediately drawn to the large play area.

It's filled with various play equipment – slides, swings, and many others, all brightly colored and well-maintained.

I've seen kids of all ages laughing and running around, having the time of their lives.

But what sets this park apart is the breathtaking lake views.

You can sit on one of the benches and watch as ducks and swans glide across the water, adding to the serene nature setting.

As a lover of outdoor grilling, the fire pit and grill beside the water is a real treat.

There's nothing quite like grilling up some burgers while the sun sets over the water, painting the sky with shades of orange and pink.

Regarding amenities, Oconto City Park has it all covered.

The park is well cared for, from restrooms and trash facilities to a spacious parking area.

So whether you want to get lost in nature, are looking for a fun-filled day out with the kids, or just want to soak in some beautiful views, Oconto City Park is the place to be.

Enjoy a Quiet Afternoon at Holtwood Sporting Complex & Park

I can't count the number of times my family, and I have packed up a picnic and headed to Holtwood Sporting Complex & Park.

There's something magical about a sunny day in the park, the soft rustle of leaves overhead, the splashing of kids playing in the river, and the distant cheering from the ballpark.

Apart from nature, the Park also features a well-maintained ballpark.

I'm always impressed by the clean and organized facility. Watching a local game is always a treat.

An improvement suggestion would be adding a net on top of the backstop for extra protection from those sneaky pop-ups.

Holtwood also has a lovely, quiet RV campground where you can pick your spot during the week.

The park is full of amenities, and there's always something new to discover.

And if, by chance, you're in the mood to explore even further, Interstate Park is minutes away and home to the world-famous Glacier Holes.

Ultimately, Holtwood Sporting Complex & Park is about creating memories, enjoying the outdoors, and spending quality time with loved ones.

I wouldn't trade my experiences here for anything. See for yourself.

Final Thoughts

I can confidently say that Oconto, Wisconsin, is a small town with a big heart.

There's no shortage of things to do or places to explore.

Oconto is a hidden gem filled with beauty, history, and character that always leaves me grateful to call it home.
