Every time I visit William C. Sterling State Park, I admire the treasure trove of scenic trails, perfect for bird watching or keeping fit.

Fishing enthusiasts will be delighted with the ample piers and access points.

And if you're into kayaking like me, the waterways in and around the park give you plenty to explore.

Not to mention the excitement of spotting an excellent lake freighter out on the horizon, and if you're fortunate, you might even see them docking at River Raisin, just south of the park.

A visit to the park isn't complete without enjoying a sunrise or sunset over Lake Erie.

But what I love most about the park are the hiking trails.

Every time I venture there, I discover new bird species, numerous turtles, and even water snakes.

The wetland area is a haven for nature lovers, and the beach is a delight.

So, why not plan a barbecue here next time you're around? It's sure to be a memorable experience.

Enjoy Fall Fun at Kackleberry Farms

There are days when the air feels crisp, the pumpkin spice aroma fills coffee shops, and you know it's time to visit Kackleberry Farms.

I had a splendid day there recently.

As I stepped off the tractor that took us on a pleasant ride to the pumpkin patch, the warmth of the employees radiated around.

It's a place where, even on a hot day, you feel a sense of tranquility and delight.

The surprises just kept unfolding as the day progressed.

Fresh out of the oven, their donuts are soft, pillowy delights that melt in your mouth.

And let me tell you, those apple cider slushies are divine, the perfect balance of sweet and tangy to beat the heat.

It's an absolute treat for kids too!

The place's cleanliness and maintenance impressed me, reassuring me about the safety of the kids.

There's no shortage of activities, either.

With pig races and a flashlight corn maze, it's an adventure waiting to happen.

Kackleberry Farms is also a haven for animal lovers.

The goats are the cutest, and interacting with them was a joy.

It would have made for a perfect mini vacation if we could stay the night, like some folks who came through Harvest Host.

Don't miss out on this wholesome experience. I'm counting the days until we return in October for more unforgettable memories.

Go on an Exhilarating Adventure at Monroe Escape Rooms

You've never truly tested your problem-solving skills until you've locked yourself in a room with a ticking clock, a unique theme, and a series of intricate puzzles.

That's the thrilling experience I had at Monroe Escape Rooms.

It's a place where friends and family bond, colleagues test their teamwork, and everyone has an absolute blast.

My friends and I decided to challenge ourselves with "The Heist" room, and boy, was it something!

The room was amazingly designed, filled with exciting props and captivating clues.

Moreover, figuring out the mysteries was exhilarating, with each puzzle we solved pushing us closer to the edge of our seats.

We also enjoyed doing the pirate-themed room, which was an absolute hit with the kids.

It was the perfect balance of challenge and fun, and they also adjusted the room's difficulty level to suit our family.

So, if you're looking for something out of the ordinary to do on a Friday night or to break up the week's monotony, Monroe Escape Rooms is the place to go.

It's an experience that will stick with you, and I guarantee you'll be planning your next escape before you've even left the building.

Visit Green Witch Gardens

Since Green Witch Gardens, formerly known as The Flower Market, opened in our town, it's been my go-to place for anything green, mystical, and beautiful.

The moment I step into their massive greenhouse, I'm greeted by an array of bonsai trees – so many that I lose count.

Likewise, the outdoor section features a magical collection of plants and flowers.

But the show-stealer for me is their enticing array of fairy garden fixings.

I can spend hours just exploring these lovely little creations.

One of the standout aspects of Green Witch Gardens is the involvement of local artists.

It always brings me a joyous smile when I discover the beautiful creations of our talented townsfolk, displayed for all to see and appreciate.

In terms of practicality, the place is spacious with ample parking, making it a convenient spot to visit even during busy weekends.

Green Witch Gardens is a thriving hub of creativity, community spirit, and natural beauty.

There's something quite magical about stepping into the grand old building that houses the River Raisin Centre for the Arts.

The moment you walk in, this incredible vibe hits you, a mix of anticipation and excitement. It feels like home, and Broadway all rolled into one.

I've been fortunate enough to visit this fantastic art center numerous times, and I am blown away by the performances every single time.

The last show I attended was a local big band concert. It was a feast for the ears.

Every note was perfectly played, and the vocalists were simply top-notch, their voices resonating through the hall, leaving the audience in awe of their talent.

Apart from the performances, the center is also a hub of learning.

For instance, my daughter has been taking dance classes here.

They're always welcoming, professional, and highly dedicated.

Enter a Creative Haven at Barn Owl Studio

Once upon a casual Saturday, I stumbled upon an incredible haven - a place that exudes creativity and warmth, the Barn Owl Studio.

I found myself joining in on the celebration of a friend's sister's birthday.

Little did I know, this was an artful retreat where family and friendship were woven into every activity.

The Barn Owl Studio's inviting atmosphere struck me the most.

It was beautifully decorated, and a sense of camaraderie made the experience truly unforgettable.

The creativity flowing from every corner was contagious, and before I knew it, I was immersed in doing a lovely craft project.

I found myself planning to return, not just to try my hand at a new craft but also to bask in the delightful ambiance of the place.

The Barn Owl Studio is a sanctuary where creativity is celebrated, and every guest is welcomed with open arms.

Make a Musical Escape at Serendipitous Vintage

Every town has its hidden gem; for us, it's Serendipitous Vintage.

A funky little oasis amidst our quiet town, this place is a hub for everything vintage and artsy.

The first thing that catches your attention is the music.

They offer lessons, sell vintage band shirts, and house an impressive collection of instruments like guitars and drums.

If you're a vinyl record enthusiast like me, their selection will amaze you.

They even sell audio equipment, perfect for setting up their home studio.

When you think that's all, the art gallery invites you in.

And if you're into shopping, they have an array of gently used, practically new, name-brand clothes.

Visiting Serendipitous Vintage always leaves me feeling upbeat and inspired. It is a fun place to go and a delightful break from the everyday routine.

Discover History at Monroe County Museum

There's something extraordinary about touching, seeing, and breathing in history right in your backyard.

Monroe County Museum presents a treasure trove of local stories and relics I've enjoyed exploring.

From exhibits showcasing hometown heroes to vintage recliners, the museum holds an intriguing variety of items that can cater to everyone's interests.

I won't say I'm a big fan of Custer, but history has always fascinated me. And Monroe County Museum offers just that in heaps.

It's a trip down memory lane, unveiling layers of our community’s past and heritage.

Likewise, it helped me connect with my roots and understand the local culture in a way that no book or teacher ever could.

The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday, and the best part is that it operates on donations.

It’s also an excellent spot for kids.

I've seen their eyes light up as they absorb the past and make connections to their present.

It’s an interactive, engaging, and fun way to introduce them to the history of Monroe.

Who knew that living here would open doors to such an enriching journey?

The Monroe County Museum is a living, breathing testament to our past, and I encourage everyone to take a little time out to discover it.

This morning, the melodious tunes of the Peace Jubilee Brass Band filled the air at the historic Sawyer Homestead as we celebrated the Founder's Day Festival.

To say it was anything less than remarkable would be an understatement.

The band's performance was a symphony of nostalgia and pride.

Walking through the Sawyer Homestead always feels like stepping back in time.

The grandeur of the architecture and the meticulous landscape immediately catch the eye.

It's an old house, but its charm is timeless.

The city has done a fantastic job preserving this historic property, and the selfless volunteers who maintain it deserve praise.

They have managed to keep the essence of the place intact, making it a must-visit for anyone seeking a slice of Monroe's history.

With its tasteful decor, the house is also a perfect venue for special events.

Recently, I had the honor of officiating a wedding ceremony here.

The beauty of the place added an extra touch of elegance to the occasion.

And the best part? It’s open to the public!

The city organizes various events here throughout the year, and your help or donations are always welcome to keep this magic alive.

I can't emphasize enough that Sawyer Homestead is more than just a house.

It's a piece of Monroe's heart, and I strongly encourage everyone to visit.

Enjoy the Day at St. Mary's Park

I adore the charm of St. Mary's Park!

It's the little slice of heaven tucked away in the busy life of Monroe.

The view of the Monroe skyline and river from this park is simply mesmerizing.

You can sit for hours just admiring the beauty around you.

One of the best parts about this park is the river walk. A serene stroll along the river calms my mind and rejuvenates my senses.

The playground is a fun-filled spot for the little ones. My nephew loves the playscape.

It's small but perfect for his playtime.

And for the sporty ones, there's plenty of green grass to run on and tennis and basketball courts to sweat it out.

St. Mary's Park also has a theater where local events are held.

I remember attending the Monroe Gay Pride Fest here.

The sense of community and fellowship was so solid and heart-warming.

It's impressive how our small community pulls off such significant events.

And the bridge offers an excellent spot for some Instagram-worthy photo shots; the water backdrop enhances the pictures' beauty.

The park is also wheelchair accessible, making it easy for everyone to enjoy.

Another thing I love about St. Mary's Park is that it's always clean, well-maintained, and well-loved.

It's a cherished gem in our community where we gather, play, relax, and create beautiful memories.

Visit during the summer when the park hosts free concert events. It's an absolute blast!

Pay Tribute to Heroes at Heck Park

Now and then, I find myself compelled to visit Heck Park, a place close to my heart and a silent tribute to our Vietnam veterans.

The serene green space symbolizes gratitude, a memorial to honor those who died for our nation.

Moreover, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial construction had the whole town engaged, and I remember spending countless hours at the park back then.

Contributing to the Huey helicopter project #632 in 1991 was a significant milestone for me.

The sight of that helicopter today takes me on a nostalgic trip to the past when things were simpler.

Apart from the memorial, Heck Park offers a welcoming open space for relaxation and recreational activities.

Whether you're up for a picnic under the pavilion, a sledding adventure down the hill, or a fun time at the playground, this park has it all.

But the true essence of Heck Park lies in the history it silently carries.

A stroll along the park's paths is a poignant reminder of the Vietnam War and its impact on our community.

It's a place where the past meets the present, as a constant reminder of the bravery and sacrifice of our troops.

There's nothing like a day at the River Raisin National Battlefield Park Visitor Center.

Recently, I enjoyed exploring the grounds again, immersing myself in its wealth of history.

Strolling through the well-maintained paths, I snapped some fantastic photos, each capturing a different story from our nation's past.

The Visitor Center is a treasure trove of interactive displays, with something to catch your eye at every turn.

They've added new exhibits since my last visit, each more intriguing than the previous one.

A highlight for me was the observatory - it's packed with interesting artifacts, and they're always adding more.

One of the best parts about the Visitor Center is its expansive movie theater.

Here, you can immerse yourself in the park's history with a fascinating video that adds depth to the visit.

As for the little ones, they'll be kept occupied with all sorts of craft and building opportunities.

I must say, the River Raisin National Battlefield Park Visitor Center truly stands out among the national park destinations in our area.

Whether you're a history buff or just looking for a family-friendly day out in Monroe, Michigan, it's worth the visit.

Unwind at River Raisin Marina & Campground

I swear, the moment you step foot into River Raisin Marina & Campground, you're greeted with such warmth and friendliness that it makes you feel right at home.

The entire RV park is incredibly well-maintained.

Nestled in a picturesque bay, I often find myself gazing out at the row of boats lined up in the marina, the water shimmering in the sunlight.

The view of the lake is simply breathtaking from any campsite.

The grass is neatly trimmed, and the showers?

They have the perfect hot water, although the pressure could be slightly higher.

What's more, it's not your typical noisy campground.

It's peaceful, quiet, and surrounded by nature.

Perfect for a good night's sleep or a relaxed afternoon siesta.

For those who enjoy an active lifestyle, take an adventurous hike through the marshland and butterfly garden, a good five miles before hitting the beach.

I promise it's worth every step.

But the true gem? It's the fishing spot right at your campsite.

There's nothing like the thrill of casting a line and reeling in your catch right from your temporary backyard.

Affordable and serene, River Raisin Marina & Campground offers a beautiful camping experience – a treasure in Monroe that’s hard to top.

So, when planning your next camping trip, I highly recommend making the River Raisin Marina & Campground your destination.

Every day, I wake up to the stunning sight of the George Armstrong Custer Equestrian Monument.

Nestled in the beautiful park that paints the scenery of my quaint town, Monroe. It's truly a sight to behold.

The river becomes a stage for Mother Nature's performances, changing its hues with the seasons. It's always a sight for sore eyes.

Our town is not just about the breathtaking monument and the serene river.

We have people who believe in community and care.

For instance, our oil change place on Monroe Street is run by folks who are as good with people as they are with machines.

Regarding food, we are spoilt for choice.

My personal favorite is the Independent Dairy.

It's the definition of Yum. Apart from that, we have every fast food place you could crave.

And, if you're willing to splurge a bit, the Eureka eatery on Monroe Street offers a delightful experience.

Their chicken is worth every penny, and their shakes are simply out of this world!

But the crown jewel of our town remains the George Armstrong Custer Equestrian Monument.

As I recently found out, it's an incredible sight, especially on a beautiful morning.

Armed with my camera, I captured the monument in the soft morning light.

The result was a collection of pictures that I will cherish forever.

It evokes a feeling of awe and admiration, a testament to our town's rich history and legacy.
