Take a Stroll Through Heritage Park

When you live somewhere for a long time, you may take some of its treasures for granted.
That's why I'm always astonished by the serenity I find every time I stroll down the trails at Heritage Park.
The park is a cornucopia of history and beauty, wrapped in a quiet, wooded setting.
Moreover, the trails are easy to navigate, even for the kiddos, and they often lead us on little adventures.
A particular path veers off towards a cluster of bamboo and a pear tree, which we've dubbed our secret garden.
Of course, no visit to Heritage Park would be complete without spending time at the Veterans Memorial Wall.
The sight of the flags fluttering in the wind, the carefully curated photos, and the vast open space around the monument are incredibly moving.

It's a beautiful ode to the brave hearts who've served in our military, and I feel a swelling sense of pride every time I stand in front of it.

Have you ever had a day when you want to throw stuff? Well, that's precisely what you get to do at Axe Country!
It's the perfect place to unwind after a long day, and trust me, after my first visit, I was hooked.

It's a great spot to hang out with friends, indulge in some friendly banter, and throw some axes.
What surprised me was that although none of us had any prior experience in axe throwing, after a few throws, we were all having a blast.
Even the drinks here are terrific.
But what sets Axe Country apart is its hi-tech setup.
The advanced system makes the experience both entertaining and easy to get along with, even for beginners.
Meanwhile, the music and decorations add to the lively atmosphere, making it a hub of fun and excitement.

Experience True REST Float Spa
I'm telling you, there's nothing as soothing as a good float.
And the best place to do it? True REST Float Spa.
I felt like I was floating in a different world.
So tranquil, so serene.
I even dozed off a couple of times during my session. And the oxygen bar and tea afterward? That's the cherry on top.
When I first visited, they immediately eased my worries, and my experience was incredible.
I felt so light and stress-free afterward that I immediately signed up for a membership.
My first float session was a gift, and I was initially apprehensive.
Believe me when I say it's like floating with no gravity in the air but comfortably surrounded.
It's like all the tension and pain evaporates from your body.
The post-float experience is also very soothing.
You get to enjoy a hot cup of tea at the oxygen bar, and they even have journaling books to write down your thoughts.
I left feeling so relaxed. I felt like I was on cloud nine, even while driving through traffic the next day.
True REST Float Spa has become a crucial part of my lifestyle, and I can't imagine life without it.
Enjoy a Night Out at The Henry Players
Oh, the joy of living in Henry County! It's not just the beautiful landscapes or the friendly neighbors.
It's also the thrill of having a local playhouse that churns out quality plays, like the Henry Players.
Just last weekend, I attended my second play at their venue.
I must say, the plays they put on are nothing short of breathtaking.
Every performance I have seen over the past five years has been exceptional.
Not a single one could be labeled mediocre or dull.
Even the seating arrangement is designed so there's no bad seat in the house.
The building could do with some repair, and the temperatures tend to get slightly higher during performances.
So, a little tip - if you plan on attending, bring a fan.
But let's talk about the real stars of the show – the local actors.
The talent they possess is almost overwhelming.
Moreover, the people working at The Henry Players are as welcoming and friendly as you can imagine, making every visit unforgettable.
Supporting local small businesses and talents without having to venture out to Atlanta for a quality play is a privilege.
Every night spent at The Henry Players feels like a perfect night out.
I can't wait to experience another unforgettable show at their playhouse.
Enjoy the Day at Southern Belle Farm
There's no better feeling than the crunch of fresh, local produce picked with your own two hands.
I've had my share of delightful days at Southern Belle Farm; every visit is a new adventure.
It's a treasure trove of natural beauty where you can taste the fruits of your labor.
My family and I usually make a day of it.
We've made it a tradition to go strawberry picking, each of us armed with a 5-gallon bucket, ready to fill them to the brim.
You can never have too many strawberries!
Then, you can also find us rummaging through the blackberry bushes on some occasions, hands stained with juice and hearts filled with joy.
The kids love it - there's something about picking your fruit off the shrub that fills them with pure, unadulterated excitement.
Now, the sunflower field is a sight for sore eyes!
We've picked our fair share of sunflowers, too.
They're as beautiful as they are vibrant and lend a certain charm to our home when we display them in vases.
The farm isn't just about picking fruits and flowers, though.
They have this cute little show that takes place every so often.
Meanwhile, the exhibits are extravagant and quite a sight to see.
The food gift shops offer an array of desserts and refreshing drinks, perfect for the sweltering summer heat.
Moreover, the farm is spread out beautifully, with ample parking space and restrooms.
They also have multiple farms brimming with strawberries and a lovely sitting area where you can relax after a day of picking.
The activities are reasonably priced, making it the perfect spot for a day out.
Every visit to Southern Belle Farm brings along a new memory.
It's a place where nature, fun, and food come together to create an enjoyable and fulfilling experience.
So, if you're ever around, ensure you don't miss out on this delightful experience.
Enjoy a Hauntingly Good Time at Southern Ghost Tours
I wasn't expecting much when I first decided to visit the Southern Ghost Tours in my hometown of McDonough.
I mean, how often do you find something thrilling right in your backyard? But let me tell you, I was in for a pleasant surprise.
It was just my partner and me that evening, which made it feel like we had our private tour.
Our guides were animated and knowledgeable, captivating us with tales of local history and chilling ghost stories.
They painted vivid pictures of these spectral encounters that had taken place right where we were standing.
If I wasn't a believer before, I was certainly left wondering after that night!
But the Southern Ghost Tours aren't just about ghosts.
They gave a refreshing change from the overly dramatic presentations I've experienced on other tours.
One weekend, we even participated in their Murder Mystery Dinner.
It certainly was a night to remember. Their performance added a lot of fun and intrigue to the night.
The Southern Ghost Tours and the Murder Mystery Dinner are not just thrilling and exciting.
They are a significant addition to the cultural fabric of Henry County.
Whether you're here for a visit or a resident, you must experience it yourself.
Enjoy an Artistic Encounter at Hood Street Art Center
Regarding a uniquely artistic experience, I couldn't miss out on visiting the Hood Street Art Center.
The Center was recently abuzz with an art show organized for the Henry County Schools.
Moreover, the exhibit was remarkable, showcasing a variety of styles and perspectives from the talented students.
I've also attended small gatherings at this place, which can comfortably accommodate about a hundred people.
The charm of the Hood Street Art Center rests in its versatility.
Depending on the occasion, it can transform into any setting you desire.
Imagine a room that serves multiple purposes, complete with a patio, which gives it a more relaxed ambiance, somewhat resembling a freight room.
Some might see a blank canvas, but those with vision can turn it into a masterpiece.
The Center also offers a plethora of venues, each with its unique layout.
I believe the Hood Street Art Center has much to offer the community.
It's a place dedicated to embracing diversity and fostering creativity in every form.
Make Sweet Discoveries at Sweet Ashley's
Every town has hidden gems, and one of the best secrets of McDonough, Georgia, is Sweet Ashley's.
Tucked inside Thompson’s Market, this quaint confectionery has quickly become my go-to spot for satisfying those sweet cravings.
The first time I visited, I decided to try the popcorn and the chocolate-covered espresso beans.
Both were full of flavor and had me eager for more.
But Sweet Ashley's is more than just a candy shop.
It's also a curio shop — perfect for when you hunt for that unique gift.
While I have made it somewhat of a routine to pick up fresh veggies from the market and then a treat or two from Sweet Ashley's, I've also noticed how the shop is a haven for children wanting their bag of goodies.
It's a sight that always brings me a warm smile, even though one might question the single-item-per-bag policy.
Sweet Ashley's remains a charming spot in McDonough, and I'd recommend visiting it.
Enjoy the Day at Avalon Park
Family day celebrations at Avalon Park, and the kids adored it.
The splash pads had just opened, and their squeals of joy were delightful to hear.
Every child’s laughter was a testament to the success of the park's newly opened splash pads.
This vast expanse, locally known as Avalon Park, boasts two state-of-the-art playgrounds, spotless bathrooms, and a football field that would make any local league team proud.
Even if you're not into sports, there's ample room to laze around, soaking up the summer sun with a picnic basket nearby.
Parking? No problem. There's plenty of space for everyone.
We locals are known for our love of easy living, and Avalon Park offers just that.
Avalon Park is a great place to spend a summer day.
Whether picnicking, playing or simply lounging, it's an ideal spot for families.
Take a Stroll Down Memory Lane at C.O. Polk Interactive Museum

One weekend, on a quest for a hometown history lesson, I wandered into the C.O. Polk Interactive Museum.
This small yet charming local history hub can be located on a bustling intersection of the town square in McDonough, a core part of our community's vibrant life.
I could tell that the museum was impeccably clean and well-maintained, a testament to the dedication of those who run it.
One of the most captivating parts of my visit to the C.O. Polk Interactive Museum was waiting for the video presentations to start before progressing through the exhibits.
Each short video was insightful and packed full of local history, which the galleries of historic photos beautifully complemented.
Together, the stories and images painted a vivid picture of McDonough's rich history, allowing me to walk through the museum as if I were strolling down memory lane.
As a side note, the museum also features a kids' area, although the activities for children are somewhat limited.
But on the bright side, it gives young ones an early introduction to the history of their town.
The museum may not be a stand-alone attraction, but if you happen to be on the square, it's worth visiting.
My little historical adventure left me agreeing with the sentiment that the C.O. Polk Interactive Museum makes McDonough rock!
Spend the Day at Sandy Ridge Park
Since the new committee took over, Sandy Ridge Park has been my go-to spot for an adrenaline-fueled afternoon.
The BMX track here has been transformed into a thing of beauty, making you want to hop on your bicycle and get riding right away!
Getting to the park is a breeze.
It is nestled comfortably within Henry County, so reaching there is never a problem.
Plenty of parking space is available, so you can always find a spot, even on the busiest days.
The park itself is in tip-top shape.
Every corner is spotless, with well-manicured green spaces to soak in the sun or enjoy a picnic.
But the jewel here is undoubtedly the BMX track.
Since the new committee took over, the track has been in top-notch condition, a real treat for BMX lovers.
Whether you're a seasoned pro or a BMX newbie, this track is perfect!
And then there are the softball fields.
They are gorgeous, with perfectly maintained lawns that delight every game.

Enjoy High-Flying Fun at Sky Zone Trampoline Park
There's nothing quite like the sound of kids hootin' and hollerin', having the time of their lives, to make a parent’s heart swell with joy.
And that's precisely the scene I've experienced at the Sky Zone Trampoline Park.
Something about that place brings out the child in all of us.
One visit to this indoor trampoline park, and you'll understand what I mean.
Wall-to-wall bouncing, dodgeball, and fitness programs are all there for the taking.
Now, it's not exactly what you'd call a bargain.
Each two-hour pass costs about $24.99, and socks are an extra $5.
But seeing the kids' faces light up with pure, unadulterated glee is worth every penny.
Sky Zone Trampoline Park has always been a great place to let the kids burn off some energy.
Where else can you see your kids having the time of their lives while you get to sit back and relax?
It’s a fantastic way to spend an afternoon and something you should check out if you're in the area.
Explore Alexander Park with My Furry Friends
The other day, I decided to take my dogs for an afternoon out at Alexander Park.
To my surprise, they were overjoyed to discover that the park housed a dedicated dog area where they could run around freely.
As we strolled across the vast expanse of the park, we eventually found the off-leash area for pets.
My dogs loved the large area set aside for them.
However, I noticed a section of the fence was down due to a tree trunk falling on it.
This could allow adventurous dogs to sneak out, but if you keep a keen eye on your pets and can recall them promptly, it wouldn't pose much of a problem.
I wonder if the authorities have managed to fix this by now.
One thing to note, though, if you're heading there with your pets, is that the parking lot is a bit far from the leash-free area.
Still, the beauty and tranquility of the park make the stroll from the parking lot to the off-leash area pleasant.
The park isn't as crowded as the one at North Mt. Carmel, a plus for those seeking a peaceful outing with their pets.
I also appreciated that other pet owners were mindful of cleanliness and picked up after their pets.
I'm already looking forward to our next visit, where we'll explore what Alexander Park offers more.
Unwind at Richard Craig Park
Let me tell you, after a long week, nothing beats a game of tennis at Richard Craig Park.
The courts are always well-maintained, clean, and inviting.
Feeling the sun on my skin and hearing the ball pop against the racquet, I get completely lost in the game.
And the best part is that the restrooms near the courts are always kept clean, unlike the ones near the playground.
Also, the park is pretty spacious, 39 acres to be exact, making it an excellent place for a picnic with the family or a game of baseball under the floodlights in the evening.
Now, the playground area could use a little more attention from the maintenance crew.
The weeds sometimes grow as tall as two feet, and the trash bins often overflow.
Richard Craig Park is a peaceful and enjoyable place to spend the afternoon.
And if you brave the short trek to the play area, you might miss the water fountains.
There aren't any nearby.
But, to be honest, the central location makes up for any minor inconveniences, and I find the park to be clean enough, given its location.
Richard Craig Park is more than just a park to me.
It's where I unwind, meet friends, play pickleball, enjoy nature, and have a good time.
Play a Round at Cotton Fields Golf Club
Stepping onto the Cotton Fields Golf Course greens feels like stepping into my sanctuary.
The sprawling landscapes and the inviting fairways have been my go-to retreat for years, providing a relaxing escape from the bustle of everyday life.
Over the years, the course has become a friendlier and more challenging playground.
It's a perfect place for golf beginners like myself from a few years back, offering a level of challenge that keeps me coming back for more.
From what I've seen, it's slowly but surely inching towards being as engaging as the well-renowned Cherokee Run, a city-owned gem in Conyers.
If only the county would consider investing more in its upkeep, we might have a fantastic course in our backyard.
However, Cotton Fields Golf Club isn't just a testament to potential; it's a pleasant experience.
Sure, the course could use a bit of sprucing up.
Some areas would benefit from a touch-up, but that doesn't deter from the overall pleasure of the experience.
It's a spot you'd want to visit when you want to unwind, breathe in the fresh outdoors, and enjoy a good round of golf.

The care that goes into maintaining the place is impressive—immaculate lawns and well-kept surroundings that scream pristine. Who wouldn't fall in love?
And it's not just the physical attractiveness of the place; the ambiance they've created with the decor is remarkable.
I remember they had decorated the home so tastefully that we had to arrange tables for a reception once, saving us much time and energy.
Besides being a wonderfully maintained property, what made a lasting impression on me was their impeccable professionalism.
Their straightforward approach, balanced with a personal touch, made everything smooth sailing.
They have some unique and beautiful special items to make any event stand out—beautiful lighting, individual flower containers, sitting areas, notable buildings for brides and grooms—you name it!
