It's just an ordinary day in town, and I'm drawn to the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art.

The museum has a rich history tied to our local hero, Lauren Rogers, who inherited the wood processing business from his father.

His untimely demise due to appendicitis was a tragedy to us all.

Now, his legacy lives on through this museum.

Don't miss the short film about Laurel's history in the next room.

It's an eye-opening experience every time.

The exhibits in this museum are something else!

You can get lost in the beauty of the Van Gogh exhibit; you feel like you've been transported into one of his paintings.

It's an immersive experience that's hard to forget.

But the basket exhibit holds a special place in my heart.

As a basket weaver, I always find inspiration from the intricate designs displayed here.

The best part? There's no entry fee.

Also, don't forget to visit the gift shop. They have some beautiful pieces that you can take home.

One of the most captivating installations is the Chihuly exhibit - a sight to behold.

Trust me, pictures don’t do it justice!

The charm, the elegance, the sheer beauty - it's something that can only be experienced in person.

So, next time you're in town, don't miss out on this enriching experience at the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art.

Take a Memorable Ride through Bolton Home Town Tour

One thing about living in Laurel is the unique charm that the town holds, and there's no better way to experience it than with DJ's Bolton Home Town Tour.

I could practically write a book about my experiences on these tours, but I'll try to keep it brief.

Once, I had a couple of hours to spare, so I joined the Bolton Home Town Tour.

We traversed the streets leisurely in a golf cart, pausing at various points to appreciate the architectural beauty of the homes featured in the show.

It was almost like watching the show live.

The tour's highlight was that the DJ was preparing for the day when we arrived late in the afternoon.

Throughout the tour, we were welcomed with friendly waves and greetings from the neighbors and homeowners as we passed by.

If you plan a trip to Laurel, don't miss the Bolton Home Town Tour.

It's an experience that leaves you with a deeper admiration for the town of Laurel and the warm people who call it home.

Get a Glimpse into History at the Veterans Memorial Museum

Walking by the Veterans Memorial Museum almost every day, it's easy to forget the wealth of history it houses.

But one fine afternoon, on a whim, I decided to pay a visit, and boy, was I glad I did!

Right from the moment I stepped inside, I was transported through the many wars the United States has engaged in.

Despite being an ample space, the museum doesn't charge an admission fee, operating solely on donations.

Their vast knowledge and courteous demeanor made my visit more exciting and enlightening.

The museum boasts extensive displays, each telling the story of a different war.

But what stood out to me were the stories of local heroes who served in the military, a moving tribute to their bravery and sacrifice.

This place is a must-visit if you're a history buff like me.

But it's not just the inside of the museum that's intriguing.

A few artifacts were displayed outside, including the first Air Force One L268!

Just seeing it up close was an experience, making me eagerly anticipate my next visit to the museum.

Whether you're a resident or just passing through, I highly recommend visiting the Veterans Memorial Museum.

It's a beautiful reminder of our nation's rich military history and the countless heroes who have fought for our freedom.

Rediscover Tranquility at Trustmark Park

Something about Trustmark Park seems to transport me back to my childhood.

The evergreen trees that gracefully stand tall amidst the busy cityscape are like reminders of a time when life was simpler and slower.

I can't help but admire their grandeur every time I take my morning stroll.

The park, hidden like a precious gem, is an oasis of tranquility in the city's busy heart.

It's a bit tucked away, but finding it is worthwhile.

My favorite part? I love sitting at the park's little hill. It's an excellent place for some solitude or simply people-watching.

It's a neat little spot - perfect for a picnic or for kids to play.

There's even a tiny staircase perfect for practicing your steps – or, in my case, catching my breath after a long walk!

One thing that never fails to catch my eye is the beautiful mural painted on one of the park's walls.

It adds a pop of color and character to the otherwise serene environment, making it an ideal spot for a photo op.

Trustmark Park is a serene haven that offers a much-needed escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Whether you're looking for a peaceful spot to rest, a fun location for the kids, or a beautiful backdrop for your photos, Trustmark Park is the place to be.

One of the best days I recall was when I picked a hilariously named "Stinky Boy" soap for my grandson.

It's not just the gifts, though!

What sets The Laurel Leaf apart is the warm, friendly atmosphere.

They have become my go-to housewarming gifts for friends and family.

I own a few pieces myself, and they never fail to grab compliments.

Their collection is more than just merchandise.

Discover Unique Finds at Scotsman General Store & Woodshop

Have you ever walked into a store and discovered a treasure trove of items you never knew you needed but could not resist?

That's my experience every time I visit Scotsman General Store & Woodshop.

It's an experience, a journey into the heart of Laurel that encapsulates the craftsmanship and spirit of our town.

Stepping into the woodshop is like stepping into a TV show - quite literally, it's the same workshop you see on the screen!

I've always been in awe of the extensive collection of cutting boards and other handmade products that showcase the intricate woodworking process.

Occasionally, I've been lucky enough to spot Ben filming for the show while shopping.

Always the gracious host, he ensures that the store is in impeccable condition.

It's not uncommon to find great deals and sales on various items, making it a joy for souvenir hunters like me.

But Scotsman General Store & Woodshop is not just about woodworking.

The store is a gourmet's delight, from many bottled sodas, Ben's branded coffee, infused honey, and jams to ice cream.

Explore Southern Delights at Pearl’s Diner

My usual weeknights are mostly about late shifts and quick take-outs.

But when the weekend arrives, there’s no place I’d rather be than Pearl’s Diner.

It's a well-established spot in Laurel that deserves all the local love it gets.

You can feel the warmth of the place as soon as you walk in.

Ordering is a breeze; you get to do it at the counter, and they bring the food straight to your table.

As for the food, I must say it's a culinary extravaganza.

I’ve tried various items off their menu, but what always brings me back is their delicious red beans and rice with sausage.

The dish is so flavorful, and the portions are generous.

Some days, my guilty pleasures are their gooey macaroni and cheese and the jalapeños cornbread.

But what makes Pearl’s Diner truly special is Ms. Pearl herself.

It's always delightful to chat with her.

She is as bubbly in person as in her restaurant, full of life and energy.

Her passion for providing excellent food and a warm atmosphere is evident in every aspect of her establishment.

And let's not forget the fresh iced tea that accompanies every meal.

It's the perfect quencher to the hot Southern meals.

On top of all this, the restaurant maintains a high standard of cleanliness.

It's always refreshing to see the tidy dining area and clean bathrooms.

And the conversations with Ms. Pearl? Well, that's just the cherry on top.

Spend the Day at Peddlers' Junktion

Whenever I need a little adventure, I head to Peddlers' Junktion, a local gem in Laurel, Mississippi's heart.

To call it an antique shop would be an understatement.

It's more like a treasure trove of fascinating trinkets and unique finds, each with its own story.

Walking through its doors, I'm always greeted by an array of exciting items presented in separate spaces where vendors showcase their wares.

Sometimes, I find myself lost for hours, mesmerized by various items on display, from vintage electronics to quirky kitchen gadgets, old-fashioned fishing lures, and curious signs.

One of the things I love about Peddlers' Junktion is the range of items they offer.

Feel the Sugar Rush at Shug's

There's no aroma like entering my favorite sugary haven, Shug's Cookie Dough & Candy Bar.

The sweet, enticing scent of freshly baked goods instantly fills the air and makes your mouth water.

I can't help but surrender to the temptation of their divine creations.

Moreover, I recall a specific day when I ordered their brownie cupcakes with chocolate frosting.

The delightful smell, the compelling look, and the heavenly taste were absolutely out of this world.

I had planned on snapping a photo for my food album, but I couldn't resist long enough to take the shot, and they were devoured within minutes.

Shug's isn't just about the baked goods, though.

There's a whole world of sweet treats waiting to be discovered.

I often drop by to pick up some cookie dough, mini cookie cakes, and their delectable Oreo balls. No visit is complete without them!

And let’s not forget about their milkshakes! Shug's whipped up the best caramel milkshake I've ever tasted.

It's so creamy and rich that it’s practically a dessert.

But that's not all. You can lose yourself in their vast assortment of candies, sold by the ounce or pound.

The strawberry and peach gummy bears are a personal favorite of mine.

It's a sweet surprise in every bite, with the gummy bear's soft texture and ripe, fruity flavors.

But the sweetest thing about Shug's isn't just their treats.

The menu has a great selection of beverages and delectable breakfast items.

Likewise, the white chocolate mocha iced latte is my usual go-to, while my partner always opts for the simpler iced latte.

They're both divine and instantly perk us up for the day ahead.

Apart from the stellar coffee, the food doesn't disappoint either.

We often indulge in a breakfast sandwich, served on a soft everything bagel and a sweet blueberry muffin that never fails to satisfy our sweet tooth.

Enjoy the Day at Boston Park

On any given day, you might find me at Boston Park, a true gem hidden in our bustling town.

The community comes together in this park, children's laughter rings out, and memories are made.

Similarly, the park is named as an homage to the iconic Ralph Boston, a track star of our dear hometown, who provided us with a gathering place to enjoy.

I can't help but feel this sense of pride whenever I think about how our local hero is being remembered.

The park itself isn't just locally significant, though.

It's a fun place to spend time and one of my favorite spots to watch my kids play.

With the playground right in the middle, I can take a stroll or jog around the track that circles it, keeping an eye on it while enjoying the fresh air.

There's nothing like the cool wind against your face as you walk down the path and the sound of children playing in the background.

It's a small surrounding environment, often not recognized by others, but for us, it's a place of joy and a testament to our community.

Boston Park is a tribute, a community hub, a playground, and a track.

Spend the Day at Lake Bogue Homa

There is nothing quite like the tranquility that envelops you when you step foot onto the shores of Lake Bogue Homa.

The serene ambiance is intoxicating, making it the perfect place to unwind, clear your mind, and let your thoughts run free.

Occasionally, I grab a book, my favorite snack, and head down to the lake for a quiet afternoon.

It could, however, do with some more seating options by the lake.

The lake is not just a haven for peace seekers like myself but also for fishing enthusiasts, campers, and even duck hunters.

Just a few miles east of Laurel, MS, it's easily accessible off Highway 84.

Whether you're looking to cast a line or set up camp, Lake Bogue Homa is welcoming all year round.

As the sun sets, the lake transforms into a breathtaking spectacle of colors, making it a hotspot for photographers or anyone who appreciates natural beauty.

Take a Stroll Through Gardiner Park

When I first moved to this town, I instantly fell in love with Gardiner Park.

The vast, clean, grassy expanse dotted with trees immediately appealed to me.

I remember thinking, "There's nothing more thrilling than walking down a wide gravel track with a view of lush greenery!"

I've spent many weekends with my family playing soccer in the open field.

A little creek runs through the park, which offers a charm of its own.

My kids often spend hours there watching water bugs skim across the surface or dangling their feet into the cool water.

The park also has a playground with swings and a tower with three slides.

However, I'll warn you to check the slides before your kids hop on during the summer.

They can get quite hot!

Gardiner Park is also a great place to enjoy a good book or a quiet picnic.

Picnic tables are scattered throughout, but if you prefer, you can always sit on the ground.

The trees offer plenty of shade, making it an ideal spot to stretch out with a blanket and basket of sandwiches.

My personal favorite about Gardiner Park? The walking track.

It has a sign that tells you that 4.5 laps are equivalent to a mile.

It's my go-to spot for morning or evening walks, allowing me to exercise while absorbing the tranquility of the surroundings.

Gardiner Park is the perfect spot if you're looking for a place to escape the bustle of life or if you want to enjoy a breath of fresh air.

The moment you step foot in the park, you can't help but feel a sense of calm wash over you.

It's almost as if you've been transported back to simpler times when life was less hurried.

Right in the center, a water fountain is bubbling gently, a lovely sight that adds to the overall ambiance of the park.

Nearby, there's a gazebo that adds a touch of old-school charm.

It's a favorite spot for locals to sit and enjoy the surroundings.

Benches are scattered around the park, perfect for sitting with a cup of coffee and resting your legs.

One particular feature I always find myself drawn to is the plaques installed throughout the park.

Reading the plaques, you learn about the area's history, stirring a sense of pride and appreciation for our local heritage.

Since I was a small child, tales of The Deason House have been whispered around town - thrilling ghost stories that piqued my curiosity and sent chills down my spine, all in the same breath.

Nestled right here in Ellisville, this beautiful piece of architecture is rich in history and is the oldest standing home in Jones County.

From time to time, if you're lucky, you might even spot the Ghost of Amos McLemore.

According to the stories, Newt Knight allegedly killed him on October 5th, 1863.

The Deason House, a marvel to behold, isn't just about ghost stories.

It's a treasure trove of history, and I've spent countless hours exploring its past, from the old town of Ellisville, which lies east of the railroad track, to the very floors of the house; history seeps from every corner.

I was told that the wooden floors are still stained with the blood of General McLemore, and I can't deny the eerie feeling that washes over me every time I'm around.

The home opens its doors to the public on special occasions, providing a glimpse into our town's past.

Next time you're in town, I highly recommend a visit.

Just remember, you might not be alone when you visit.

Enjoy Gaming Nights at Bok Homa Casino

Who said you need alcoholic refreshments for a good time?

At Bok Homa Casino, you don't need any spirits to keep your spirits high!

This no-alcohol casino in my hometown offers just the right mix of gaming and dining in a snug, welcoming environment.

One of the things I appreciate most about Bok Homa is its practical approach to gambling.

It's a place to have a fun-filled experience without burning a hole in your pocket.

I remember my very first visit on a warm July evening.

The excitement in the air was palpable; the slots were generous, too!

After a few hours of thrilling gaming, I walked away with a sweet little win of $300 – not a bad takeaway for a relaxing evening!

Another thing that sets Bok Homa apart is the ample truck parking, complete with 24-hour surveillance.

I recall when I had to park my 18-wheeler truck – the space was sufficient, and the security reassuring.

Even my furry friends had a spacious area to frolic around!

Of course, no night is complete without good food.

I like to round off my gaming sessions with a hearty meal at the casino's compact dining area.

The menu may be basic, but the food is homely and delectable.

I still remember the taste of the juicy burger basket I had on my first visit – it had a homemade touch that was hard to beat.

My dogs seem to love the chicken strips, too!

Bok Homa may not be where you win a million dollars, but it's a place that ensures a million-dollar experience.

Remember not to gamble more than you can afford to lose, and you'll have a grand time.

After all, it's all about good times, good games, and good food.
