A Day at Mercier Orchards

Scenic view of Mercier Orchards

Just when I think I've seen all the wonders of my small town, I get a fresh reminder of its beauty every time I visit Mercier Orchards.

This picturesque, 300-acre orchard has been a staple in our community since its inception in 1943.

It's the perfect place to spend a sunny afternoon, immersing yourself in nature while enjoying the simple pleasure of picking your own fruit.

Whenever I step into the vast expanse of this orchard, there's a sense of excitement, anticipating the seasonal fruits that await.

I remember the sweetness of the strawberries and peaches in summer, the crisp taste of a freshly picked apple in the fall, and the thrill of finding the ripest blueberry during its season.

Every visit is a tasteful adventure, and the fruits of my labor make it all worth the effort.

One of the highlights of Mercier Orchards is its retail store.

It's the largest orchard shop I've ever come across.

Rows upon rows of every type of jam and jelly you can think of, homemade bread, pies, and my personal favorite, their apple butter.

I often find myself wandering in there, discovering something new each time, and invariably leaving with bags full of tasty goodies.

There's also a winery on site – a sweet surprise that complements the ambiance of the orchard.

The apple ciders here are refreshingly delicious, with some of the best flavors I've ever had.

And if you get there during the right season, you might even get a chance to sample a new variety.

The orchard isn't just a place for adults.

I've seen countless families with kids have a great time here.

The enchantment of being in a real orchard, picking fruits off the trees, and watching the delighted faces of the little ones is a sight to behold.

So, if you're ever in Blue Ridge and looking for an experience that will delight your senses, make sure you don't miss Mercier Orchards.

Yes, it's a quaint, charming part of our town’s landscape, but it's also a place where memories are made and experiences are savored.

A Perfect Day at Daffodil Hill Farm

Here's a secret of ours in Cherry Log, Georgia: a slice of heaven tucked away amongst the rolling hills.

It's called the Daffodil Hill Farm.

The moment you arrive, you're embraced by the warm hospitality of the hosts, Brian, Barbie, and Hope, who welcome you like family.

A guided tour through the blooming daffodil fields is a sight to behold.

The vibrant yellows and soft whites of the flowers are a spectacle against the backdrop of the serene Blue Ridge mountains nearby.

However, the true gem of this experience is the 1890-era carriage ride.

Powered by two majestic horses, Moses and Aaron, the ride transports you to a time when life was simpler.

The rhythmic sound of the horses' hooves and the cool wind on your face as you cruise through the scenic farm is a unique experience that you wouldn't want to miss.

Children are particularly fond of this farm.

My two-year-old niece had the time of her life on her visit.

The friendly interactions with the horses and the guided farm tour made her day.

There's a certain charm about Daffodil Hill Farm that keeps us coming back for more.

This isn't just a farm, it's a place where memories are made.

A must-visit if you ever find yourself in our quaint little town.

A Hoppin' Time at Grumpy Old Men Brewing

You're never really a stranger in our little town of Blue Ridge.

Especially when you stumble across one of my favorite haunts, the local brewery, Grumpy Old Men Brewing.

It's not just a name, there's a couple of real-life grumpies behind the bar, but don't let that fool you.

They're as welcoming as they come, with laughter as frothy as the beer they serve.

And let's talk about that beer!

I've had the pleasure of sampling flights of their craft brews, and every single one of them is a little work of art.

Who knew that being grumpy could lead to such flavor explosions?

Take it from me, their Tsunami Steve and Scentsation IPA are absolute game-changers.

Now, I'm not usually an IPA guy, but these ones are different.

They're like a tsunami of flavor that leaves you wanting more.

Now, if you're a fellow Stout lover like me, you're in for a treat.

Their Tilley Bend Stout is just perfection in a pint.

And if you're in the mood for something smooth, the Teddy Bear Brown Ale is like a warm hug from a fuzzy friend.

So, if you ever find yourself in our neck of the woods, you have to swing by.

Spend a lazy afternoon, or an entire evening, at Grumpy Old Men Brewing.

A Night of Laughter at Blue Ridge Community Theater

Oh, what a night it was!

If you're looking for a place with a heart in Blue Ridge, Blue Ridge Community Theater is where you should be.

I've never been much of a theater enthusiast, but a trip to our local theater one evening with family left me spellbound.

I remember watching the Elf story unfold on stage - a beautiful narrative that warmed our hearts.

From start to finish, you could see the cast and crew putting their absolute everything into the act.

The story pieced together beautifully, thanks to everyone's passionate performance.

Not just Elf, I also had the opportunity to watch The Addams Family on stage during a sold-out show.

The actors, stage crew, and everyone did a phenomenal job!

The show was filled with humor, a testimony to the director's talent in managing the stage time for all actors.

One of the most memorable nights at the theater was when my mom and I went to see "Drinking Habits".

I've never laughed so much in a single evening!

The Blue Ridge Community Theater is more than just a local playhouse.

It's a place where you can enjoy a wonderful evening filled with laughter and joy.

A Night Under The Stars at Swan Drive-In

I've been going to the Swan Drive-In since my first memories of youth.

Back when the excitement of watching a movie from the comfort of our family's station wagon was all the entertainment a boy could ask for.

Now, decades later, I find myself carrying on the tradition, bringing my own kids to enjoy the nostalgia of one of Georgia's last remaining drive-in theaters.

What makes Swan Drive-In more than just a novelty, though, is their commitment to creating a real movie-going experience.

You can check what's playing on their website, but one thing's for sure: you're going to get blockbuster films serving up a mix of the latest releases and timeless classics.

And they haven't neglected the food either.

No, this isn't your run-of-the-mill, overpriced theater fare.

The old-school snack bar at Swan Drive-In serves up mouthwateringly good burgers that are worth the trip alone.

And their fried Oreos?

Well, let's just say they're a must-try.

But beyond the movies and the snacks, it's the atmosphere that keeps me coming back.

There's something magical about watching a movie under the stars, with the scent of popcorn wafting through the air.

It's a piece of Americana that's fast disappearing, yet Swan Drive-In continues to keep the tradition alive.

So, whether you're a local, like me, or just passing through, a night at Swan Drive-In is a trip down memory lane you won't forget.

A Day at Lake Blue Ridge Marina

There's something simply magical about the crisp mountain air, the gentle lull of the water, and the spectacular views at the Lake Blue Ridge Marina.

My days at the marina often start with a serene Saturday morning.

There's something peaceful about being one of the first to arrive before the hustle and bustle of the day really kicks in.

Last Father's Day was a delightful treat.

The threatening rain clouds that had been looming all week held back, gifting us with a day of perfect weather.

The water was so inviting that I couldn't resist renting one of their clean, fun-loving pontoons – a decision that quickly became the highlight of my week.

It's moments like these that remind me why I love calling this place home.

Whether you're a solo traveler seeking a safe and secure boating experience or a local like myself, the welcoming nature of the marina staff is unparalleled.

The marina is not just about boating, though.

The small bar and restaurant on the location offer a chance to unwind after a day on the water.

So, whether you're drawn to the breathtaking views, the friendly atmosphere, the pristine boats, or the chance to make some unforgettable memories, a day at Lake Blue Ridge Marina definitely shouldn't be missed.

I have always been a fan of history, and what better way to explore it than by taking a ride on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, a fully restored heritage train that offers a unique 4-hour journey.

It feels like stepping into a time machine in a way that only a train ride can.

You can find out more about it here.

The journey begins at the historic depot in downtown Blue Ridge, Georgia.

We opted for the premier coach tickets, and let me tell you, it was worth every penny.

The seats were comfortable and offered amazing views of the surrounding countryside.

The journey itself covers a 26-mile round trip, with some truly breathtaking views along the way.

There's something incredibly soothing about the rhythmic clatter of the wheels on the rails and the gentle sway of the carriages as they twist and turn through the countryside.

The ride with Blue Ridge Scenic Railway isn't just about taking in the views, though.

The package also includes a themed trip with an additional treat.

During our spring tour, we were served a surprisingly delicious sandwich and a butter cake bar for dessert that I’m still dreaming about.

The train stops for two hours on the border of two charming little towns.

This pit stop provides ample time to stretch your legs, do some shopping, grab a bite to eat, or simply soak up the atmosphere.

The townspeople are welcoming and friendly, making the stop all the more enjoyable.

The car hosts are the icing on the cake.

If you're looking for a unique way to experience the beauty of the Blue Ridge region, I highly recommend taking a ride on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway.

It's more than just a train ride; it's a journey back in time, filled with nostalgia, history, and plenty of beautiful views.

An Art-Lover's Haven in the Blue Ridge Mountains

One of the most delightful places to visit in my town is undoubtedly the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association.

You see, there's something about the place that makes you feel right at home.

The building is an architectural gem, a beautifully preserved old courthouse that now houses some of the most stunning artworks.

And the best part?

Most of these masterpieces are from our very own local artists.

Whether you're venturing off on a weekday or a weekend, there's always something interesting happening at the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association.

The art displays are impeccably organized, with each piece telling its own unique story.

They frequently host exhibitions showcasing art from local schools, which is truly a sight to behold.

It's incredibly heartwarming and inspiring to see the budding talent that the future generation holds.

One thing you'll notice right off the bat is the profound passion for art that permeates the atmosphere.

The people who work there are genuinely invested in the art and the artists they represent.

Shopping for art, too, is an experience in itself.

Gem Hunting at Huck's Lost Mine

Have you ever wondered how it feels to be on a real treasure hunt?

I've had the chance to live out that childhood dream right here in our town at Huck's Lost Mine.

It's a place that is filled with thrills and surprises.

The second you step into the mine, you're transformed into an adventurer, armed with a pail and a dream of striking it rich.

I have to say, getting my hands on that $60 bucket was a game-changer.

You might think that's a bit steep, but trust me, when you sift through the sand and see the glimmer of gems and stones, it's worth every penny.

I've found so many different types of gems, and the excitement of not knowing what you might find next is truly electrifying.

One of the highlights of Huck's Lost Mine is the geode cracking.

If you've never seen a geode, it's a rock that has beautiful crystals inside.

They look ordinary on the outside, but once they're cracked open, it's like a small universe of sparkling beauty.

You truly have to see it to believe it.

So, if you're looking for an adventure, or just a fun day out for the family, take a trip to Huck's Lost Mine.

It's not every day you get to live out your childhood dreams and find some pretty amazing gems along the way.

A Night of Chills and Thrills with Haunted Blue Ridge Ghost Tours

Every now and then, I like to play tourist in my own town.

So, one evening, I decided to delve into the spooky side of Blue Ridge and joined the Haunted Blue Ridge Ghost Tours.

Little did I know, I was in for a night of chills and thrills that even I, as a hardened local, wasn't prepared for!

From the moment we embarked on our eerie expedition, our guide was a wealth of knowledge, spinning tales of haunted locales and ghostly sightings that had us all hanging onto every word.

I've always been fascinated by the historical events of Blue Ridge, but hearing about them under the veil of the supernatural gave them a whole new dimension.

I also appreciated how intimate the tour was.

Our group was small, allowing for more interaction with our guide and making the experience feel personal.

Not only did we hear about the town's chilling past, but we also got the chance to ask questions and share our own thoughts.

What I found particularly appealing about the tour was the mix of history, folklore, and paranormal tales.

It wasn't just a ghost tour; it was a unique way of understanding the rich tapestry of Blue Ridge's past.

After all, what better way to learn about a place than through its legends and mysteries?

The tour was a thrilling ride through the historic town that I thought I knew.

I was left with a renewed sense of curiosity and anticipation for more.

Would I do it again?

Absolutely!

Unravelling Mysteries at Expedition: Bigfoot! The Sasquatch Museum

Ever since I was a kid, Bigfoot was always a creature of fascination to me.

It was more than just a mythical beast; it was a riddle that I yearned to solve.

Living in the vicinity of the Expedition: Bigfoot!

The Sasquatch Museum, my fascination was only fuelled.

You can find out more about the museum here.

Every time I step into this little place, I’m met with friendly faces and a trove of curiosities.

Though small in size, the museum is packed with intriguing artifacts and information that leave you questioning the existence of Bigfoot.

From sound bytes and footage to scientific data from all around the world, the evidence presented is mind-boggling.

Its charm extends beyond just the exhibits.

A delightful souvenir shop stocks up on some of the most unique keepsakes, a perfect little memento for a memorable visit.

My personal favorite is the collection of Bigfoot movies that they showcase, a treat for all the cinema buffs out there.

The museum holds a special place in the hearts of the younger ones too.

Seeing the little ones engrossed in the world of the Sasquatch and sharing their enthusiasm is a sight that warms my heart every time.

Even the skeptics are often found questioning their beliefs as they walk through the museum, taken aback by the wealth of information and evidence.

A visit to the Expedition: Bigfoot!

The Sasquatch Museum is an experience like no other, a thrilling journey into the world of the unknown.

Unforgettable Experiences at Bear Claw Vineyards & Winery

Whenever I feel the need to escape the hustle and bustle of the town, I take a short drive to my favorite retreat, Bear Claw Vineyards & Winery.

There's something about the lush vineyard that makes the world fall quiet.

Offering breathtaking views indoors and outdoors, it's almost like stepping into a postcard.

You can even take a leisure stroll around the vineyard - a tranquil experience that is not to be missed.

Find comfort in the ample seating areas both inside and outside.

If you're feeling adventurous, you can cozy up by the fire pits.

They leave the fun part to you as you would have to fetch wood from the side and light it up yourself.

There are plenty of board games available too.

It's a delightful experience, sitting by the fire, sipping on wine, and enjoying a friendly competition in the backdrop of nature.

While the wines at Bear Claw Vineyards & Winery might not be the best you've tasted, they have a variety to choose from.

With cute names like 'Grizzly Bear', you're given the option to taste two reds, four whites or sample them all.

Even though I might not be a wine connoisseur, I've found that even a simple glass of wine here, coupled with the view, is worth the visit.

It's an idyllic spot to relax and enjoy the cool breeze under the awning.

I've spent many weekends here, partaking in wine tastings, playing scrabble, and indulging in delicious meat and cheese.

The peaceful ambiance always brings me back.

With each visit, the charm of Bear Claw Vineyards & Winery never wears off; it remains as serene and captivating as ever.

A Thrilling Day at Escape Blue Ridge

One day, I decided to shake up the usual routine and try something new.

I had heard about an amusement center nearby called Escape Blue Ridge and thought it would make for an exciting weekend.

I wasn't wrong.

As I stepped into Escape Blue Ridge, I was intrigued.

The place was a maze of interactive adventure games, beckoning each visitor to test their wit and problem-solving skills.

It was unlike anything I had experienced before in my little corner of the world.

My friends and I chose the Harry Potter-themed room.

The attention to detail was impressive; it felt like stepping into the magical world itself.

The puzzles were challenging and had us racking our brains, yet they were so enjoyable that we barely noticed the time slipping away.

I remember, during one particularly tricky puzzle, we were all huddled together, whispering theories and suggestions.

The sense of camaraderie as we worked together to decipher the clues was tangible.

When we finally managed to solve it, the cheer that erupted in the room was deafening.

It was a standout moment of victory that we all shared.

I also visited the Lucky Duck Speakeasy room on another occasion.

It was just as thrilling, with the added excitement of feeling like we were in a roaring 20s prohibition-era bar.

The staff member, Makain, was particularly helpful with cryptic clues and guiding us through the challenge.

What's great about Escape Blue Ridge is that it's not only about the thrill of the game.

It's also about bonding with your team, whether it's family or friends, and creating memories that will stay with you long after you've escaped the room.

The word 'escape' gains a whole new meaning here - it's about breaking free from the mundane and diving headfirst into fun and adventure.

I've been to Escape Blue Ridge multiple times now, and each visit has been unique, challenging, and exhilarating.

I can't wait for my next adventure.

If you're in the area, I highly recommend giving it a whirl.

It's a world of fun waiting to be discovered.

Tranquility at Blue Ridge Dam

The gentle hum of nature fills the air as I take my morning stroll along the serene waters of the Blue Ridge Dam.

Autumn is here, and the once bustling area has now quietened down, like a peaceful, sleepy village - it's almost like time stands still here.

Just meandering around the dam on any random day in the October-November period can feel like walking through an open-air museum of natural beauty.

There are others, secretive and elusive, peeking every now and then from behind the thick foliage.

The Blue Ridge Dam isn't just about aimless wanderings and wildlife spotting though.

It's also a haven for anglers.

Long-time fishing enthusiasts swear by this place, saying it's the best spot on the lake to cast a line.

And who can argue?

With the lake and stream guide service, even beginners can try their hand at this calming pastime.

If you're ever in the mood for some relaxation and tranquility, pack a picnic basket and come on down.

The Blue Ridge Dam is a perfect spot to unwind, soak in the beauty of nature, and maybe even catch a fish or two.

Trekking on Springer Mountain Trailhead

Ever been on an adventure with Mother Nature that fills your soul?

That's what I feel every time I hit the Springer Mountain Trailhead.

Nestled just 6 miles off the main road, this trailhead is your gateway to the Appalachian Trail (AT), offering you unparalleled beauty and tranquility.

Getting to the trailhead is an adventure unto itself!

A bumpy, winding dirt road takes you up to the trailhead.

Coming from the city, this rugged country road is a welcome change of scenery.

At the trailhead, a one-mile hike awaits you, rewarding you with breathtaking views of the AT's starting point.

The panoramic vistas you witness from the top are akin to stepping into a beautiful painting.

And it's not just the views; the friendly ridge runner or guide at the top is a treasure trove of knowledge.

You'll always find a bunch of enthusiastic through-hikers with stories of their journey from the Amicalola Falls.

Even if you aren't up for the challenge of hiking the entire Appalachian Trail, it's worth seeing where the famous journey begins.

Every time I visit, it's like a new experience.

Once, I ran into a traveler named Frozen who was so passionate about the trail that his excitement was contagious - now, I can't wait to try the thru-hike myself.

For those who aren't avid hikers, don't worry.

The drive up the narrow gravel road, the brief hike, and the magnificent views are plenty to quench your thirst for adventure.

The thrill of exploring Springer Mountain Trailhead is something that every local cherishes.

Trust me, once you make this trip, you'll be hooked too!

Discovering Blue Ridge's Hidden Gem

Let me tell you about my home's breathtaking backyard, the Lake Blue Ridge Recreation Area.

I love starting my day with a serene morning run along the paved trails, taking in the sights of the sparkling lake, lush trees, and the majestic mountains surrounding me.

The trails stretch across a couple of miles, promising an invigorating exercise each time.

Next, I usually find myself in the paved parking lot where more magic awaits.

I often take the trail winding deep into the woods or another leading me down to the water.

Each visit presents a new adventure, a new sight to behold.

A picnic table and a bench await if you're in for a break, all set in this picturesque lakeside setting.

One of my favorite spots has to be the part that indicates "day use only."

It's a hidden treasure in Blue Ridge, blocked off for cars, allowing you to truly take in the beauty of nature uninterrupted.

This path is completely paved and about a mile long, and if you're lucky, you might stumble upon a hidden bench across from some houses.

But the trick is you have to find the trail leading to it.

There are other treasures to discover, too, like the outer loop and the inner loops, with some small dead ends.

These are remnants of the former camping ground, a little piece of Blue Ridge history.

Now, the area isn't without its flaws.

Some might argue that the lack of a constant monitoring authority causes some issues.

I've seen a bench broken before and even witnessed vandals tearing up the kiosk.

But these instances are rare, and they can't diminish the magnificence of this place.

The Lake Blue Ridge Recreation Area is an idyllic spot for picnics by the calm lake.

There are two parking areas, one perfect for launching your boat into the tranquil waters and the other for day users like me.

And for those looking for a relaxing stroll, there's a beautiful half-mile trail loop at the end of the day-use parking lot.

So, whether you're a tourist or a fellow local, I urge you to discover this hidden gem in Blue Ridge.

You're in for a treat!

A Night to Remember at Fannin Brewing Company

There's nothing like the camaraderie of a craft beer environment.

Fannin Brewing Company, tucked away in the heart of our town, provides exactly that - and much more.

I've been there for a handful of events, from casual get-togethers to celebrations, but I'll never forget the night we hosted our wedding welcome party there.

The place was buzzing with anticipation as our guests arrived.

As the evening set in, the brewery came alive with laughter and conversation.

Our guests couldn't stop raving about the place - and neither could I.

The variety of local beers on offer added a unique touch to the evening.

The flavors were diverse and robust, catering to every kind of beer enthusiast.

Fannin Brewing Company's website will give you a sneak peek into their offerings, but let me add my personal favorites.

I've always had a soft spot for their dark beer and the auschuld, but the coconut porter is an absolute winner.

The smooth taste, coupled with the laid-back atmosphere of the place, brings me back every time.

Even on a cold, rainy day, with not many folks around, the place emanates a warm, inviting aura.

It's the kind of place where you'd want to huddle and share stories over a hearty pint of beer.

So, whether you're planning a grand event or a simple catch-up with friends, Fannin Brewing Company is the place to be.

My Experiences at Blue Ridge Olive Oil Company

There's a spot tucked away in Blue Ridge that has become one of my favorite go-to places whenever I need a little culinary inspiration - the Blue Ridge Olive Oil Company.

Just a stroll away from the Riverwalk, it's a small but captivating shop that has always managed to catch my eye.

The moment you enter, you're greeted by a stunning array of oils and teas that makes the place feel more like a gourmet grocer's dream than your average retail store.

The staff are always incredibly helpful, knowledgeable about their products, and ever ready to offer samples.

That's one of the best parts - being able to taste the oils before deciding which ones to take home.

The sales associate I usually interact with is a young lady whose name escapes me but whose customer service skills are unforgettable.

She's well-versed in the various oils and always knows which flavors will tantalize my taste buds.

Whether it's the rich Dark Chocolate, the tangy Ripe Peach, or the bold Espresso, she has never failed to steer me toward the most delicious choices.

One thing I love, in particular, is how she takes the time to explain the different uses of each oil.

Whether it's drizzling over salads, adding a dash to my cooking, or simply using them as dips for bread, the oils from Blue Ridge Olive Oil Company have brought a fresh twist to my meals.

When it comes to packaging, they are equally meticulous.

Whether it's for my own kitchen or as a thoughtful gift for a friend, every item is neatly packed with a gift box and package, making each purchase feel special.

In this humble shop, I've found not just delectable oils but also excellent customer service and a warm, welcoming atmosphere that always leaves me looking forward to my next visit.

I can't wait to try my new olive oil and explore even more of their unique infusions.

After all, with their EVOO and balsamic vinegar, I get to infuse my food with incredible flavors while keeping it healthy.

Unearthing Treasures and Fun at Cohutta Cove Mini Golf & Gem Mining

What can be more fun than a round of mini golf followed by some gem mining?

At Cohutta Cove Mini Golf & Gem Mining, you get the best of both worlds.

As soon as you step onto the newly refurbished greens, you are greeted with a level of difficulty that is both challenging and exciting.

One unique feature that I absolutely love is the use of a stream to move your golf ball - it's always a fun surprise to see where it'll end up!

But the fun doesn't stop at mini golf.

The gem mining is an absolute joy, especially if you have children.

My kids had a blast rummaging through the mine dirt and discovering a treasure trove of colorful gems.

The excitement of identifying their finds on the charts scattered around the area is something they talk about long after our visit.

If you plan on spending a few hours here, do remember to pack some snacks - while the facility does offer Coke and water, it's always a good idea to have something to nibble on, especially for the little ones.
