Hike the Trails of Lamentation Mountain State Park

My weekends are never complete without a hike at the Lamentation Mountain State Park.

The incredible view from the summit is always worth the effort. Starting from Guiffrida Park in Meriden, I follow the trail up to Mount Lamentation, and it never ceases to amaze me.

With the wind brushing against my face and the peaceful ambiance, it feels like a little piece of paradise on Earth.

When I feel adventurous, I set up camp at the top. The view of the sunrise from my tent is an experience like no other.

After a peaceful night under the stars, I usually take a walk over to Giuffrida Park.

The landscape over Lamentation Mountain State Park is also quite breathtaking.

Although there's construction near the quarry, the sight is still quite picturesque - perfect for a quick photo session.

Though the blue Mattabessett trail is marked for a loop, I have found it a bit challenging to follow.

During my hike, I park at the Spruce Brook Dr trailhead and follow the blue blazes along the muddy trail.

Be prepared to not find a loop back and also take a double back on your trail.

As a hiking enthusiast, I don't mind the detour, but the casual hiker might prefer more well-marked routes.

Regardless, the views of Silver Lake peeping through the trees are worth the trek.

Though I might not always find a clear overlook or a loop trail, the journey around Giuffrida Park is always enjoyable.

Bear in mind that the trail can get rocky, so I always recommend donning a good pair of hiking boots.

Go Trekking at Ragged Mountain Memorial

I can't help but feel a rush of excitement every time I lace up my boots for a hike at Ragged Mountain Memorial.

It's one of those places where you can lose yourself in the beauty of Connecticut's natural landscape while being right in the middle of several towns.

The trails are a joy to explore - well-marked and largely well-maintained.

Sure, you'll come across the odd fallen tree, but hey, that's nature for you.

One of the things I love most about Ragged Mountain is that it's a place for everyone.

I regularly see families with kids and dogs in tow enjoying a day out.

The trails are moderately difficult, with certain sections providing a decent amount of elevation.

But don't let that put you off; the reward is worth every step.

You get breathtaking views of the nearby ponds and reservoirs from multiple vistas.

It's a sight that never gets old!

I would recommend anyone visiting Ragged Mountain Memorial to do a bit of research on the trails beforehand.

The area is expansive, and it's easy to miss some of the best spots if you don't know where you're going.

Stroll Down Pistol Creek

You wouldn't believe how incredible it is to walk along the grounds of the old golf course at Pistol Creek.

I've lived here all my life, and it still amazes me that such a place exists.

It's a repurposed golf course, now a peaceful public space open to everyone.

Walking through the trails of the abandoned golf course is like stepping back into a forgotten era.

The sand where the golf holes used to be, the sprawling open spaces, and the unused log cabin add to the nostalgic charm of the place.

I usually bring my dog along, too, he loves running around in the open fields.

I've seen a variety of birds and insects here on my walks, even a big caterpillar once!

The place also has well-maintained paved paths, which makes it accessible for everyone.

I've also seen cyclists, hikers, and folks in wheelchairs enjoying the trails.

I've even discovered new paths leading to different parts of the hill away from the main course.

But be careful when you're near the wooded areas - I've seen coyotes lurking around, even during the day.

One of the best parts about Pistol Creek is the convenience it offers.

There's ample parking space, picnic benches scattered along the trails for you to rest, and even a porta-potty for emergencies.

Explore the Wilderness at Ragged Mountain Memorial Preserve

Having lived here for over a decade, I have an irresistible fondness for the untamed beauty of Ragged Mountain Memorial Preserve.

This forested haven, with its rugged terrains, offers an exhilarating escape for day trips.

Here's a peek into my experiences at this preserve.

As an avid hiker, I find the trails at Ragged Mountain nothing short of an adventure.

I usually take the 5.6-mile loop trail that starts with the blue-red trail and connects to the Metacomet trail.

As you ascend, the trail becomes more challenging, but that's where the fun lies!

After a long climb, the reward is a breathtaking view from the top that is worth every step of the journey.

Springtime hikes at Ragged Mountain Memorial Preserve are especially memorable.

The vernal pools and mucky streams paint a picturesque landscape, adding a touch of serenity to the challenging trails.

Scrambling over rocks and navigating up and down ravines make the hike more exciting.

But, do keep in mind to reach early, as the parking space is limited and tends to fill up quickly by noon.

But it's not just the spring; even winter has its charm.

With the trail blanketed in snow, the views are equally stunning, if not more.

The trail is rocky, so I always make sure to wear good hiking boots.

There are an array of trails to choose from, and depending on the trail you take, you could end up spending an entire day exploring this natural beauty.

Solve Mysteries at Team vs Time

My heart was racing, my palms sweaty, as my friends and I tried to solve the last clue.

Thrills, excitement, and a dash of terror, that's what you get at Team vs Time, the premier escape room in Connecticut.

Their escape rooms are not just about locking you in a room but creating a complete immersive experience.

Every room at Team vs Time boasted a different difficulty level, offering a unique challenge every time.

My personal favorite was the Book of Spells room.

The mystery, the magic, it was something out of the world, and it left us spellbound, quite literally!

Relish Breakfast at Joey B's Restaurant

Every morning, I find myself eagerly anticipating breakfast at Joey B's Restaurant in our quaint town of Berlin.

I mean, who wouldn't want to kick-start their day with a breakfast that boasts a gamut of delectable, both healthy and indulgent options?

On a typical day, there's usually a line at the restaurant, but trust me, it moves much faster than you'd expect.

On my last visit at Joey B's Restaurant, I choose two dishes - Girl Scout cookie pancakes with ice cream and avocado toast with eggs.

The contrast of flavors was astounding; from the sinful sweetness of the pancakes to the wholesome goodness of the avocado toast, it was a breakfast to remember.

Meet Animals at Hungerford Nature Center

I can honestly say that the Hungerford Nature Center never fails to delight.

It's a little gem tucked away in our town, and it's seen its fair share of changes over the years, always for the better.

I remember venturing here as a child, and now, it's become a staple in my own grandkids' lives.

What's great about this place is that it caters to different age groups.

I've brought my two-year-old granddaughter here, and she was absolutely enamored with everything – the live animals, the indoor play area, the enchanting butterfly room, and also the outdoor playground.

She just couldn't get enough!

The center has also evolved since my own childhood and my kids' younger years. It used to be much smaller.

Today, it's blossomed with more animals and exhibits, and there's something to catch the fancy of every child, regardless of their age.

Bringing my six-year-old grandson in Hungerford Nature Center is next on my list.

With exhibits and attractions for older children, I can't wait to see his eyes light up.

It's the perfect place to keep them engaged, amused, and stimulated.

Moreover, it's an absolute steal for the price - super affordable, and I believe it's free for residents during the summer.

Bring Your Dog for an Exercise at Hatchery Brook Conservation Area

There's a certain charm about Hatchery Brook Conservation Area that seems to pull me back time and time again.

It's not just the tranquil setting; it's the whole atmosphere that fills the air. The sweeping views of the sunset from this spot are something to behold.

And if you're a dog owner like me, you'll appreciate that there's a field just perfect for your furry friends to roam around.

The paths are wide and well-kept, leading to adventurous trails at the back.

It's a great place to take a leisurely stroll on a sunny day or to lose yourself in a peaceful environment.

The joy of seeing my dog bouncing around the open field, the wind in her fur, is a sight I cherish.

But Hatchery Brook Conservation Area isn't just for dog walkers, oh no.

As an avid mountain biker, I've found it to be a great spot for some Cozy FatBiking.

The terrain is challenging yet enjoyable, and the area is large enough to never feel crowded.

Hiking enthusiasts will also find solace here. The community trails are well-marked, presenting an opportunity for a refreshing trek through nature's splendor.

Have a Fun-Filled Learning at New Britain Youth Museum At Hungerford Park

Every time I visit the New Britain Youth Museum At Hungerford Park, I find myself discovering something new and engaging.

Packed with a diverse collection of displays and activities, this place has become a favorite weekend destination for my nephew and me.

Here, young learners get to explore a wide variety of exhibits ranging from bones and rocks to furs and more.

Apart from the educational stuff, there is also an indoor play area stocked with blocks, scarves, magnets and a sand table for endless fun.

It is always a joy watching my nephew's creativity soar as he builds intricate towers and structures from the blocks.

Another exciting feature of this museum lies in its furry and feathery residents.

The place is home to a delightful range of animals, including cows, goats, hawks, owls, chickens, geese, bunnies, lizards, turtles, frogs, and snakes.

We made it a tradition to feed the goats and cows with carrots, apples, and strawberries during each of our visits, and they seem to absolutely love it!

Right next to the museum lies a scenic trail, perfect for a leisurely stroll.

Although, I would recommend bringing bug spray during the summer months, as the trail can be quite buggy.

New Britain Youth Museum At Hungerford Park also boasts a charming little kiddy park section with a butterfly garden and a small pond.

A little free library is set up here, serving as a great spot for donating children's books that are no longer needed.

The museum may seem small, but it surely packs in a ton of activities.

Enjoy Breakfast Delights at Josie's Corner

Every small-town gem has a story, and in Berlin, that gem is Josie's Corner.

My Sunday mornings are never complete without a trip to this bustling breakfast nook.

You won't need a sign to tell you've arrived.

Just look for the line of people waiting to get their hands on the best breakfast in town, and you'll know you've found the right place.

As soon as you step inside Josie's Corner, you're immediately embraced by the warm, cozy atmosphere.

The staff here treats everyone like family - always welcoming and quick to serve.

It's the kind of place where you seat yourself and feel right at home.

You're never a stranger at Josie's Corner - that's the kind of charm this place has.

Now, let's talk about the food. I'm telling you, the breakfast sandwich at Josie's Corner is something you will write home about.

The juicy, succulent fillings wrapped in soft, warm bread - it's the stuff of dreams. The home fries are a must-have, perfectly golden and crisp.

But the star of the show for me is the Cinnamon Swirl French Toast.

You haven't really tasted French Toast until you've tried Josie's version - it's a symphony of flavors that transports you straight to breakfast heaven.

Indulge in Savory Grinders at Central Pizza

When it comes to quick, no-nonsense pizza, grinders, and wings, Central Pizza in Berlin always hits the spot.

They're known around town for their big, delicious grinders, my personal favorite being the chicken parm.

But it's not just about the grinders, the Greek pizza at Central Pizza is a nostalgic trip back to the late eighties.

After a gap of 35 years, on a random drive past the familiar signage, I decided to stop by.

To my delight, it was the same family-owned business, still serving the same fantastic pizzas.

Though it has turned into a takeout-only joint, the charm of Central Pizza's good old-fashioned Greek-style pizza remains unscathed.

Despite being always busy, the servers manage to keep a friendly demeanor.

Have Family Date Night at Picture Show in Berlin

I remember my first time visiting Picture Show, a charming, family-friendly movie theater tucked away in Berlin.

With its multiple screens, digital projection, and 3D capability, it looked like the perfect place for a relaxed night out with family or friends.

One detail that immediately caught my attention was the theater's captivating interior, showing off the recent upgrades made by the current owners.

The fresh atmosphere was made even cozier with the amazingly comfortable and modern seats.

Even the bathrooms were spotlessly clean and modern.

However, what struck me the most was the size of the theater.

It was smaller than the larger franchises I was used to, but that turned out to be a hidden gem!

The quaint size made for a more intimate viewing experience, something quite rare these days.

One of the highlights of my visits to Picture Show was the affordable ticket prices.

With $5 tickets for an afternoon show, it turned out to be a great value.

The concession stand also had a variety of snacks, including kid-friendly snack boxes that were reasonably priced.

Have a Taste of Poland at Baltic Restaurant

Ever have one of those days where you just crave something different for dinner?

Well, my partner and I had one of those days, and we found ourselves at Baltic Restaurant, a quaint, old-world-style establishment that serves up traditional Polish and American cuisine.

Let me tell you; there's something incredibly heartwarming about this place.

The moment we walked in, we were struck by the rustic and comfortable ambiance.

It's like stepping into a cozy piece of Europe right here in our town.

The staff greeted us with warm smiles, immediately making us feel at home.

We embarked on a culinary journey, starting with a bowl of rosół - a traditional Polish broth that warmed us through and through.

The tomato soup and rolls were another hit.

They were flavorful, comforting, and a perfect introduction to the kitchen's impressive prowess.

As a lover of hearty meals, I couldn't resist the golombek and bigos.

The combination of flavors in each dish was just mind-blowing. It was like tasting an authentic piece of Poland at every bite.

We topped off the meal with a slice of their delectable chocolate cake, a sweet ending to a culinary adventure.

Now, you might think that our love for Baltic Restaurant stops at food.

But no! This gem also boasts a banquet hall for larger parties and a ballroom that would make any wedding or big event feel extra special.

Delve into Local History with the Berlin Historical Society

I've always had a fascination with the heritage of my hometown, a deep-rooted curiosity that led me to the Berlin Historical Society.

I'd heard whispers in town of a revamp and let me tell you, the news wasn't wrong.

It's a thrill to see it evolve and serve as a digital testament to our town's rich history.

The Berlin Historical Society is truly a gem in our community, a treasure chest brimming with narratives of our past.

The upcoming weeks promise even more as the website's transformation unfolds.

I've heard that it will soon be brimming with informative, interesting, and current info about our town.

Beyond the website, the Society is also a haven for unique, locally-themed merchandise.

I recently bought some Kensington mugs and a tote – items that flaunt a piece of home wherever I go.

Have a Gastronomic Journey to Italy at Bella's Ristorante

When I'm in the mood for Italian, I usually find myself driving to Bella's Ristorante, a casual family-owned pizzeria in our town.

It's not just your everyday rectangular pizza here; Bella's Ristorante specializes in brick-oven pies, pasta, and Italian dinners that take your taste buds on a journey through Italy.

I must admit, their pizzas are a curious case like no other.

Have you ever tasted a pizza where each slice is a different experience?

Well, Bella's pizzas are just that - each slice is a surprise!

You might bite into a slice that's rich in dough, another that's swimming in sauce, or one that's a mountain of melty cheese.

It's a truly unique and quirky gastronomical ride, like a flavor snowflake.

Most recently, I ventured beyond their pizzas and gave their pasta a try.

Oh, what a delight it was! Paired with their fresh salad and soft, warm bread, it was a meal to remember.

Hang Out with Your Buddies at the Tavern on the Trax

My nights are always filled with delight whenever I find myself at Tavern on the Trax.

The minute I step in, the friendly staff greets me instantly, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

I've become such a regular that I've had the privilege of meeting the owner— a sincere and amicable figure, always ensuring everyone is having a great time.

What makes Tavern on the Trax stand out is the quality of their food.

The Spicy Bourbon Teriyaki tenders are a mouthwatering delight.

Unlike most places serving breaded frozen tenders, here, you can unmistakably tell that the tenders are freshly breaded in-house, being tender, juicy, and incredibly fresh.

The truffle fries are always served hot, crisped to perfection without being overcooked.

But what my son loves the most are the Honey BBQ wings.

He particularly adores the generous amount of sauce the restaurant includes in the to-go containers.

If you're a fan of pool tables, dart boards, or just love to sing your heart out at karaoke on a Friday night like me, Tavern on the Trax has all that and more to offer.

Treat Yourself to Delectable Food at Sliders Grill & Bar

It's Friday night in Berlin, and there's only one place where my cravings for perfectly sauced wings and sports-filled entertainment meet.

That place is Sliders Grill & Bar. Here, the nights are lively, and the food is always on point.

The wings are a local favorite, and it's easy to see why.

Served wet or dry, they've got a variety of flavors that will make your taste buds dance.

With each bite, you're treated to a symphony of spices, and you'll find yourself reaching for one wing after another.

But Sliders Grill & Bar's wings aren't the only showstopper here. I've tried their fried pickles, and let me tell you, they're outstanding.

The crunch, the tang, it's a symphony of flavors that explodes in your mouth. I also threw a 60th birthday party here once.

Their staff is incredibly warm and accommodating.

They made sure everything was taken care of, from planning the night to preparing the food.

Now let’s not forget about their pretzels.

They're fantastic and served with a decadent cheese sauce and mustard that hits all the right notes.

And you know what makes them even better?

Their extensive selection of sauces.

Dine with Your Loved Ones at Pineloft Restaurant

Ah, the serenity of dining in a log cabin, with the smell of burgers and pizzas filling the air! That's the kind of unique experience you get at Pineloft Restaurant.

There's something about their gluten-free options that make eating out enjoyable, even for those with dietary restrictions.

The other day, I decided to give their bacon pizza a try.

I placed my order, and in no time, a friendly gentleman was at my door with a tantalizing pizza box.

The crispy bacon resting atop the pizza was a sight for sore eyes. It's not every day you find restaurants that not only deliver on their promises but also exceed expectations.

Their crust was thick yet crunchy, a delightful combination that's hard to come by. I savored every bite, relishing the deliciousness that every slice offered.

There's no doubt about it; it's a treat you'd want to relive over and over again.

One thing about Pineloft Restaurant that I find interesting is the family-friendly atmosphere.

It's the perfect place to enjoy a hearty meal with loved ones.
