Que Rico! Cuban Cafe
One of the best things about being a local is discovering hidden gems in the area, and Que Rico!
Cuban Cafe is one of them.
I stumbled upon this delightful Cuban restaurant one day, and I've been hooked ever since.
The moment I stepped inside, I was transported to Havana, with Cuban music playing in the background and green plants decorating the entire space.
Their website contains more information about their menu and services.
The coffee and cocktail menus offer a wide variety of drink options, and while the dessert selection may be small, it's definitely satisfying.
My personal favorite is the pork dinner, which is absolutely amazing!
The service is always great, and even something as simple as water being served with a mint sprig in it shows the attention to detail they put into everything.
Phở House
I recently decided to try out Phở House for dinner and was not disappointed!
The food was absolutely delicious, and I didn't have to wait long for my order.
I ordered a pork Bahn mi, which was amazing, and an iced Vietnamese coffee with boba.
The restaurant is also kid-friendly, with a menu that caters to the taste buds of little ones.
I tried the pho, and my partner had the coconut curry – both dishes were high-quality and full of flavor.
The attention to detail in the broth was incredible; you could taste all the nuances and effort put into crafting the dish.
I can't wait to return to Phở House and try more of their delicious dishes!
LeBlanc's Creole Kitchen
I'm always on the lookout for authentic Cajun-Creole dishes, and I can genuinely say that LeBlanc's Creole Kitchen is the real deal!
This easygoing, mom-and-pop restaurant has quickly become one of my favorite places to dine in town.
One of my all-time favorite dishes at LeBlanc's has to be their fried eggplant sticks - a surprising hit even for someone like me who's not typically an eggplant fan.
Pair it with their perfectly cooked fried green tomatoes, and you're in for a treat.
Their chicken salad is another refreshing delight, especially during the hot summer months.
But the star of the show has to be LeBlanc's half muffuletta sandwich.
The sheer size of it makes it perfect for sharing, and the combination of crispy bread, flavorful olive topping, and an excellent oil ratio makes it a must-try.
And don't even get me started on their desserts - the carrot cake is simply scrumptious.
Assunta's
I am fortunate enough to live near Assunta's, and I must say, it's one of my favorite places to eat.
Assunta's is a relaxed and cozy restaurant that offers a variety of pasta, seafood, and meat dishes, along with an excellent wine selection.
The atmosphere is romantic yet family-oriented, making it an ideal spot for a date night or a family dinner.
Some of my personal favorites on the menu include the soft-shell crab and Heather shells, but honestly, you can't go wrong with any of the dishes they offer.
If I want a truly authentic and delicious meal, I choose Assunta's over chain restaurants every time.
Bruno's Taqueria
I can't get enough of the delicious food at Bruno's Taqueria!
Their red sauce is out of this world, and they have amazing dishes for both breakfast and lunch.
I especially love their taco plate.
It's always packed around noon, but that's just a testament to how good the food is.
I love that I can enjoy true and authentic Mexican cuisine right in my neighborhood without having to settle for TexMex or fast food chains.
Plus, the prices are so affordable!
Trust me, you don't want to miss out on this hidden gem.

I've been going to S&H Good Eats Cafe for years, and it never disappoints.
This snug, mom-and-pop eatery always offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere, making me feel right at home.
I can't tell you how many times I've enjoyed their homestyle breakfast and lunch fare, which always comforts me after a long week.
Their food comes out quickly, and even during their busiest times, I never have to wait long for my meal.
Plus, the prices here are beyond reasonable, making me feel like I'm not only supporting a local business but also getting an incredible deal.
Papa's Backyard BBQ
I must confess I have driven past Papa's Backyard BBQ several times without realizing what I was missing.
One day, I decided to give it a try, and I'm so glad I did.
This small, unassuming BBQ joint is the epitome of a mom-and-pop shop, with a friendly atmosphere and seriously delicious food.
Being a Texas native, I have high expectations when it comes to barbecue, and Papa's exceeded them.
The brisket was moist and flavorful, easily one of the best I've had in a while.
I also tried the Mutt BBQ bun with mac and cheese, and let me tell you, it was divine.
The mac and cheese was so good, I could eat it every day and not get tired of it.
It's no wonder they've stood the test of time and are considered the best BBQ in Slidell.
Touch of Italy Cafe
I can confidently say that Touch of Italy Cafe is one of my favorite spots for breakfast.
I remember the first time I tried their famous grits; I was blown away by how flavorsome they were.
Their grits bowl is always a good choice, and my partner loves their shrimp omelet with a side of grits.
The homemade salsa on the omelet and the delicious biscuits are also worth mentioning.
The restaurant itself is small and cozy, with a clean atmosphere and a few outdoor tables for nice weather.
The restroom is small but clean, and the service is always great.
I have yet to try their dinner menu, but I've heard good things from friends about their spinach artichoke appetizer, veal marsala, and the off-menu sauce Alyssa.
It's great to know they are flexible and accommodating to special requests, even when it's not on their current menu.
Wine Market Restaurant & Bar
One evening, I decided to head over to Wine Market Restaurant & Bar for a relaxing dinner with friends.
As soon as we entered, we were captivated by the charming ambiance and welcoming atmosphere.
We started our meal with a few delicious appetizers, and I must say, their Ruben and Fleur-de-lis wraps are truly delectable.
As a fan of unique cocktails, I was thrilled to see the variety of specialty drinks they offered.
The bartenders were not only skilled in crafting these wonderful concoctions, but they were also very personable and friendly.
In addition, the service was exceptional, and our food arrived quickly.

I've also had the opportunity to try their avocado toast, which was pretty decent, and the tangy turkey bagel.
Don't forget to order their sweet potato tots on the side - they're amazing!
Another highlight of Creole Bagelry and Cafe' is their friendly service.
Plus, they offer some unique beverages like their frozen green tea and sweet Irish coffee.
Taqueria Habaneros
One of my go-to spots in town for some delicious Mexican food is Taqueria Habaneros.
My partner and I love the atmosphere there – it's always buzzing with energy, thanks to the lively music and the friendly, attentive service.
We've had the chance to try a few dishes at Taqueria Habaneros, including the chicken quesadilla and chicken enchiladas.
The chicken was really flavorful, and the beans were delicious.
Their spicy salsa is absolutely fantastic, especially if you like it super spicy like I do.
Tuesdays are a great time to visit, too, as they have $2.50 draft beers and $4 margaritas on offer.
Pizza Platoon
I recently decided to give Pizza Platoon a try, and I must say, I was blown away by the quality of their pizzas!
I opted for the Buffalo Chicken pizza on the regular dough, and let me tell you, the ranch base sauce was incredibly tasty.
My partner, on the other hand, went for a custom self-made pizza with cheese as the dough.
While I wasn't sure how filling it would be as a stand-alone pizza, I can confidently say it was delicious!
Another time, I tried their keto Parmesan crust pizza and chose Sgt Alfredo, which was an excellent choice for me.
I also couldn't help but appreciate the atmosphere at Pizza Platoon, as my partner and I come from a family of veterans.
If you're ever shopping at Fremaux on a Friday night, I highly recommend giving this place a shot!
One of my friends, who is gluten-free, once ordered a pizza from Pizza Platoon when they were passing through our town.
They said it was the best gluten-free pizza they've ever had, with a crust that's different from the typical cauliflower option offered by most restaurants.
The toppings were fresh, the cheese was perfect, and my friend's son even declared it the best pizza he's ever had!
Kenney Seafood Inc
As someone who lives nearby, I have frequented Kenney Seafood Inc multiple times, both for buying fresh seafood at the market and for dining in the restaurant.
My experiences have been a mixed bag, and I feel the need to share my thoughts on this place.
First, let's talk about the positives.
The oyster and shrimp po'boy is a must-try dish here.
The oysters, in particular, are fried to absolute perfection.
The shrimp are also good, and the bread they use is nothing short of excellent.
If you are a seafood gumbo fan, you should definitely give it a shot, but make sure to bring a big appetite if you plan to indulge in the entire serving.
Fratelli's Italian Grille
There's no place like Fratelli's Italian Grille for authentic Italian cuisine.
One of the reasons I keep coming back is their homemade sauces, which add that perfect touch of freshness to any dish.
It's no wonder that even people passing through can't help but rave about their food.
It's not just the food that keeps me coming back, though.
I've had multiple dishes here, but my favorites have to be the Shrimp Palermo and the Chicken Marsala.
The marsala sauce, in particular, is so good that I can't stop thinking about it for days.
Joe's Italian Ristorante
I've had my fair share of Italian cuisine in town, and Joe's Italian Ristorante has won my heart.
Ever since I tried their food for the first time, I've been a frequent visitor.
I'm continuously impressed by their attention to detail, as I've never found anything missing from my orders.

The ambiance at Joe's is quite classic, which makes it perfect for a relaxed dining experience.
Their menu offers traditional Italian cuisine and a selection of cocktails to choose from.
I must say, their pasta dishes are fantastic, and the sauces are always on point.
I've also tried their shrimp and artichoke dip, which was quite enjoyable, although a bit tricky to eat with the rolls.
One thing you should not miss is their flavored oil for the rolls.
Jazzy Pete's Poboys
Let me tell you, there's nothing better than satisfying your craving for a delicious sandwich at Jazzy Pete's Poboys.
I've been going there for years, and they never disappoint.
Just last week, I decided to try their Black and Gold Po-boy, which has shrimp and roast beef.
As odd as the combination may sound, it turned out to be one of the best sandwiches I've ever had.
The service is top-notch too!
Besides the sandwiches, their kid's fish and fries are a hit with my little one – she can't get enough of it.
Oh, and my spouse loves the Jazzy Pete Po-boy.
They also serve daiquiris now, which I haven't tried yet, but I'm looking forward to giving them a taste on my next visit.
I always make sure to save room for their Shrimp Boot, a delightful dish with fried green tomatoes and fried shrimp.
And let's not forget their sweet tea – the perfect drink to wash everything down!

She made sure our experience was a memorable one.
And, as I was leaving, I couldn't help but notice their lovely courtyard – perfect for dining on a warm day.
I'm already planning on hosting my birthday dinner party at Deanasco's soon!
GilliGil's Island
One of my favorite spots to hang out and grab a bite to eat is GilliGil's Island.
This island-themed restaurant has a fantastic atmosphere, both inside and on the back deck.
I particularly love that I can bring my dog along and enjoy the view overlooking the pirate-themed play area and small dock.
Whenever I visit GilliGil's, the service is always top-notch.
The food at GilliGil's Island is consistently delicious.
I've tried a variety of dishes, including the Minnow Tacos, hamburger, shrimp tacos, and chicken tostada - all of which were excellent.
The grilled corn appetizer is also a tasty treat, although it could use a bit more char for my taste.
