Koke's Burritos

Rushing to work can sometimes leave you with the most unpleasant morning meals.

But imagine stumbling upon a gem hidden in the most unlikely of places.

That's exactly what happened with Koke's Burritos, tucked away in the corner of a gas station.

It's a place you'd normally bypass, fearing the usually greasy, unsatisfactory fare you're accustomed to.

But boy, am I glad I took a chance on this one!

Each morning, I embark on a culinary journey with their breakfast burritos.

They're a delightful mix of eggs, sausage, chorizo, or bacon - all wrapped up in a soft tortilla.

The best part?

It all comes together under five dollars.

The burritos are piping hot, fresh off the stove, and far from your typical greasy breakfast.

I mean, who could resist such a steal?

I remember introducing my partner to Koke's Burritos.

We live in Dickinson, a place where good breakfast burritos are as rare as a blue moon.

Now, we don't mind the long drive, not when we get to devour these absolutely delicious, generously filled burritos.

The service at Koke's Burritos has always been prompt and friendly, a cherry on top of the whole experience.

Taqueria Victoria

Who knew a simple food truck could serve such divine flavors that they'd become an everyday craving?

That's the magic of Taqueria Victoria.

I'll never forget the first time I bit into one of their chicken burritos - it was love at first taste.

The burrito was packed with well-seasoned chicken, and every bite was bursting with delightful flavors.

Now, it's a dish I find myself craving almost every single day, and it never fails to satisfy me.

But it's not just the burritos that have captured my heart.

The refreshing salad topping and salsa only added to the experience, making the dish a delightful treat for the senses.

Kat's BBQ

There are few pleasures in life that can rival the experience of sinking your teeth into a juicy, smoky, and perfectly seasoned piece of barbecue.

And let me tell you, Kat's BBQ is the epitome of this tantalizing delight.

Nestled in our neighborhood, it's a spot where you'll find the most authentic and delicious BBQ you can dream of.

The moment you walk into Kat's BBQ, a friendly smile greets you, paired with the mouth-watering aroma of sizzling meats.

The portions are generous, to put it mildly.

One of the must-try items on their menu is the cheeseburger topped with brisket.

It's a tower of flavors that will leave you craving more.

And for BBQ enthusiasts who wish to venture beyond the traditional, the loaded brisket baked potato is a revelation.

It's a perfect blend of hearty and savory, topped with their special brisket.

The brisket itself is moist and tender, generously cut, and slipped into sandwiches or added into beans for a great side dish.

The quality is simply unmatched.

The service is as warm as their pits, fast, and friendly.

And let me assure you, their BBQ beans are worth every bit of hype.

The beans, infused with their special sausage, are a burst of flavor that will have you coming back for more.

If you've heard rumors about them selling out too quickly, well, they're true.

But don't let that discourage you.

The team at Kat's BBQ is committed to providing quality over quantity, ensuring that each portion served is a testament to their craft.

Lorenzo's Pizza

Picture this: you've had a long day, you're tired, and all you want to do is curl up on the couch with a good movie and a delicious slice of pizza.

Well, let me tell you about my go-to place in those moments - Lorenzo's Pizza.

Located right here in Galveston County, it's the local pizza haven that can transform any day into a delight!

Having been a loyal customer since my teenage years, I've watched Lorenzo's maintain its top-notch quality over the years.

When I say they make the perfect pizza every time, I'm not exaggerating.

Ask for extra toppings, and they'll pile them on without hesitation.

Try it out, and you'll understand why I have been frequenting this place for the past 15 years.

One of my favorite memories is ordering a medium pepperoni pizza with a mountain of mushrooms.

The anticipation while waiting for that 20-minute oven magic to do its work is a thrill of its own.

And the sight of that piping-hot, fresh pizza when you get it home?

Absolute bliss!

And let's not forget that ooey-gooey cheesy goodness.

The balance they strike between cheese, toppings, and sauce is nothing short of perfection.

It's no surprise that Lorenzo's Pizza is not just the best pizza in Santa Fe, but arguably in the greater Houston area.

The soft crust, the generous servings of cheese, the fast service - everything about Lorenzo's screams "5-star pizza".

Pook's Crawfish Hole

There's nothing quite like the rustic charm of Pook's Crawfish Hole, the beloved seasonal seafood joint tucked away in our neighborhood.

A quick heads up, the restaurant only opens its doors when crawdads are in season, making each visit a special occasion.

Without a doubt, the excitement of grabbing a pound (or several!

) of boiled crawfish, shrimp, and crab is a tradition for us locals.

You should see the look on the face of a first-timer when they realize that, yes, you do get to eat with your hands!

Even though the menu boasts no green food, the seafood more than makes up for it with its freshness and hearty flavor.

Now, Pook's Crawfish Hole is a BYOB place, so you can bring your favorite beverage to complement your meal.

A local liquor store even offers a handy $10 delivery service right to your table at Pook's.

That's one of the things that make this place so unique - it's designed for you to kick back and enjoy!

In terms of seating, you can choose between air-conditioned indoors or shaded outdoors.

But be warned; the outdoor area can get a bit dusty due to the surrounding gravel parking lots.

When it comes to the food, everything is about simplicity.

No fancy sauces or seasonings hide the true taste of the seafood.

But don't worry if you need an extra kick; there are condiments available, like melted butter, tartar sauce, cocktail sauce, and seasoned salt.

One of my favorite things to order here would be the crawfish and shrimp.

They're boiled to perfection.

And if you're into fried food, the Boudin Balls and the hush puppies are a must-try.

They come with a dry, crisp exterior that's just delightful.

Blue's Bar & Grill

When the sun goes down, the lights of Blue's Bar & Grill start to twinkle like stars on Earth.

Now, this isn't your run-of-the-mill bar, no sir; this is our little gem where you can find the juiciest burgers and the coldest beer.

Ever tried a double cheeseburger with chili and mushrooms right out of the ice chest?

If you haven't, you're missing out on a burger crafted in heaven.

While it's true that the general bar scene in the area has been slowly fading out, Blue's Bar & Grill stands as a beacon of hope, attracting a crowd with its delightful service and occasional food specials.

There's something comforting about that, isn't there?

After work, there's nothing better than swinging by for an ice-cold beverage, a succulent steak, and a grilled cheese sandwich.

It's like an unwritten rule, a tradition that feels just right.

Taquería Flores

I remember the first time I ate at Taquería Flores, the taste of their Barbacoa, juicy and rich but not too greasy, still lingers on my tongue.

I would frequent the place, especially on weekends when the craving for an authentic Mexican breakfast settled in.

Their big breakfast burrito was an absolute delight, filled to the brim with flavors that would dance on your palate.

The ambiance was casual, authentic, and warm, just like the fresh tortillas they served.

The service was always friendly and attentive, making the dining experience enjoyable.

I can still recall the pleasant chatter of fellow diners, the soft clinking of cutlery, and the aroma of freshly prepared Mexican food wafting through the air.

Jodaddy's Bar and Grill

I couldn't resist the opportunity to explore Jodaddy's Bar and Grill, the latest addition to our lovely Santa Fe, Texas, culinary scene.

Having followed their journey on Facebook (check their profile here), I decided to visit during their opening week.

The moment I stepped inside, I noticed a certain emptiness as minimal decor adorned the walls.

The bar was clean yet cluttered with cleaning supplies and trash.

I even spotted a girl taking a bunch of selfies, seemingly oblivious to the customers.

Finally, I was attended to by one of the girls and ordered a scotch on the rocks.

There were no napkins or coasters available, a slight disappointment for a new establishment like this.

I observed several people leaving without ordering, possibly due to the lack of service.

To my surprise, several customers asked for food, only to be informed that the kitchen was not open, and there was no sign indicating this.

The absence of drink menus and unclear pricing also left the customers in confusion.

Fish Place

It's a breath of fresh air to welcome another seafood restaurant, Fish Place, here in the Fe.

From the first step inside, I was greeted by an inviting atmosphere that was as warm and familiar as a down-home country gathering.

As for the food, it was pretty impressive.

One thing worth mentioning is their daily deals and the sizeable portions that come at a reasonable price.

It's indeed a value-for-money experience that keeps me coming back.

A personal favorite?

Their stuffed jalapenos.

I've tasted stuffed jalapenos all over Europe during my years of deployment, and I must say, the ones at Fish Place are simply unmatched.

They are the best I've had anywhere.

The dessert is another showstopper.

It is so mouthwateringly delicious that it's beyond words.

Armadilleaux Cafe

A bite of the countryside in the heart of Texas that's what my visit to Armadilleaux Cafe felt like.

Tucked away on Highway 1764, next to the new Lone Star Pharmacy, this charming cafe has quickly become a part of my regular day.

Immediately, you're welcomed by its clean and quiet interior, adorned with a country aesthetic that gives a homey feel.

The menu is a delightful surprise - I particularly recommend the fish po'boy.

The fresh bread perfectly complements the crispy, flavorful fish and accompanies a small handful of tasty fries.

If you're not into seafood, my partner tells me the cheeseburger is just as delightful.

Now, if you're leaning towards something lighter, you shouldn't miss their BLT.

La Frontera

"Viva La Frontera!" is what I find myself exclaiming every time I indulge in the mouth-watering Mexican cuisine of  La Frontera.

Just a quick trip down the road from my house, this unassuming gem has become my go-to spot for all meals of the day.

What sets this place apart is its homey ambiance, coupled with superb service and, of course, the authentic Mexican fare.

The comfortably spaced dining room makes you feel right at home.

La Frontera's menu is like a trip across Mexico - varied, vibrant, and full of flavors.

I often start my day with their breakfast, which is always served promptly and piping hot.

The flour tortillas here - the best I've ever had - are a perfect accompaniment to their hearty breakfast items.

Their pancakes drizzled with syrup are another highlight, making breakfast at La Frontera a feast in itself.

For lunch or dinner, I usually go for the tacos.

The fact that you get to choose between corn and flour tortillas is a nice touch.

And the handmade corn tortillas?

Absolute game-changer.

Packed with fillings, these tacos are the embodiment of Mexican street food.

Sharing a plate of cheese enchiladas and a side of nopales and charro beans with friends is another experience I'd highly recommend.

The hidden ace of La Frontera, though, is their Jalapeño green sauce.

It's a heavenly concoction that I find myself adding to every bite.

It's like the cherry on top - or rather, the sauce on the side - that brings everything together.

The best part about La Frontera?

You get all of this homemade, high-quality food at incredibly reasonable prices.

New Year's Eve at Marais was indeed a memorable affair.

Their commitment to providing top-notch service, even on one of the busiest nights of the year, sets them apart.

The food at Marais is a delight for the taste buds.

The freshness of the ingredients shines through in every dish.

Vintage Crown - Micheladas & Tacos (Dickinson)

After a long day at work, nothing quite hits the spot like an ice-cold Michelada and some hearty Mexican fare.

That's precisely what you get at Vintage Crown, a laid-back local eatery tucked away in simple surroundings.

The ambiance here is unhurried, with a casual vibe that instantly puts you at ease.

As for the food, the menu is brimming with mouthwatering options.

Whether it's the birria street tacos, generously filled with tender, juicy meat, or the asada French fries, each dish is a flavor explosion!

And if you have a penchant for spicy food, their birria quesadilla and birria noodle soup will not disappoint.

But the star of the show for me was the ceviche michelada, a delightful concoction that perfectly complements Mexican food.

However, the Vintage Crown isn't just about food.

It also boasts an impressive array of drink options, from refreshing daiquiris to Mexican-style Bloody Marys.

The drink prices are reasonable, making it a great place to catch up with friends over a drink or two.

And let's not forget the service.

Despite being the only customer on a quiet afternoon, I was treated with the utmost attention.

Gio's Flying Pizza & Pasta (Dickinson)

One bite into the cheese pizza at Gio's Flying Pizza & Pasta, and I was transported to a world of gooey, cheesy delight.

The dishes that stand out for me are their hand-tossed pizzas and the mouthwatering pasta.

Their meatloaf, in particular, is to die for and often has me coming back for more.

It's hands-down the best in the city, with a side of green beans and veggies that are equally superb.

And let me not forget their perfectly brewed tea, which adds just the right touch of charm to every meal.

On my last visit, I dared to step out of my pizza comfort zone and opted for a calzone.

To say it was delicious would be an understatement.

Served hot and fresh, it was a wholesome parcel of gastronomical delight.

What struck me the most was the size of their lunch portions.

They were generous enough to be shared among friends, making it a great place for group outings.

I've also had the pleasure of hosting a party of 10 at Gio's.

Gator's Family Restaurant (Dickinson)

When you find a gem like Gator's Family Restaurant in your city, you hold onto it.

This quaint little place has become my oasis after long days, and what better way to unwind than with exceptional service and even better food?

I still remember my first bite of their gator bites appetizer.

If you've never tasted gator before, you might find its texture a bit surprising.

Yet, it's delicious, especially when it's fried to perfection like Gator's does it.

But if you ask me, it's their chicken pot pie that's truly spectacular; it practically melts in your mouth.

The gator stamp on top of the puff pastry is a delightful touch, adding to the unique charm of the place.

Now, let me introduce you to the star of my many meals there - the blackened redfish with Andouille cream sauce.

To put it simply, this dish is ridiculously good.

Pair it with their garlic Parmesan fries, and you're in for a treat.

Don't forget to save room for dessert because their brown butter cake is too good to be missed.

Located just a stone's throw from my home, this gem can't be missed.

Nestled in the heart of the city, it offers an oceanic retreat that transports you straight to the coastal lines.

While the place might seem ordinary at first glance, the food is anything but.

The shrimp is a winner, perfectly cooked and just the right size.

Occasionally, you may find the fries a mixed bag, ranging from crinkle-cut to shoestring, but that never deterred me from enjoying the meal.

And yes, I do occasionally miss those fountain drinks.

Lighthouse Seafood Restaurant is not just about the food.

They are pleasant, attentive, and always eager to ensure you have the best dining experience.

The moment I walked in, I was welcomed by a charming array of desserts.

Though I didn't get around to trying them, they sure looked tempting!

On the menu, the stuffed jalapeños came highly recommended, and oh boy, they didn't disappoint!

Crisp, spicy, and absolutely delicious, they are truly a must-have.

I also had the chance to try their fried catfish – crunchy on the outside, soft, and delectable on the inside.

While their adult milkshake was quite a treat, I did wish it to have a bit more kick from the liquor.

It was quite a tasty meal, and I'm now looking forward to trying more items on their menu.

The best part?

Despite the quality of the food, the prices remained reasonable.            '
