Red Fort Cuisine of India
I'm no stranger to the tantalizing flavors of Indian cuisine, and Red Fort Cuisine of India has quickly become a staple in my culinary adventures in Davis County.
Their menu is a tour of the subcontinent, each dish meticulously crafted to provide an authentic experience.
On a typical evening, the place is bustling with people, but don't let that discourage you!
The Chicken Tikka Masala, butter chicken, Saag paneer, naan, and samosas are all must-haves.
While the dishes are slightly subdued in terms of traditional Indian spices, they perfectly cater to the local palette.
And the way they prepare their rice - with freshly mixed veggies - is a delightful surprise.
One of my few criticisms would be the garlic naan, which leans more towards the buttery side, slightly lacking that garlic punch I favor.
But let me tell you, their Naan Garlic Bread and the mango ice cream dessert are to die for.
For those who dare, opt for their spicy dishes.
Trust me when I say their spicy is spicy.
But oh, so flavourful.
S'Ghetti To Go
When it comes to finding a great spot for some hearty Italian comfort food, I always head to S'Ghetti To Go.
This place is a unique gem that offers delicious, high-quality spaghetti dishes served with the warmest customer service.
Each visit to S'Ghetti To Go feels like a brand-new culinary adventure.
I remember my first taste of their spaghetti sandwich.
I was initially skeptical, but after the first bite, I was sold.
It was an unexpected delight, and I devoured it in no time.
What keeps me coming back, however, is their Al Mary sauce which is a perfect blend of alfredo and marinara.
It is a feast for the taste buds, especially when coupled with their spaghetti.
And no visit would be complete without a slice of their Italian Lemon Cream Cake.
With its tantalizing raspberry sauce, it's the perfect sweet finish to a fulfilling meal.
And it's not just the food that makes S'Ghetti To Go a favorite of mine.
The outstanding service, the friendly atmosphere, and the genuine care they put into every dish make it stand out.
Dawg Pound
Just around the corner from my house is this underestimated gem called Dawg Pound, a hot dog spot that I drove by countless times before deciding to give it a try.
Boy, do I wish I had stopped in sooner!
Each hot dog I've tried so far has been a burst of unique, mouth-watering flavors.
One of my favorites is the Bully, minus the onions.
This hot dog is different and reminds me of the delicious Sonora Dogs I've had in Arizona.
The Dawg Pound doesn't just stop at serving incredible hot dogs, the fries are nothing short of fantastic.
They’re always so crispy and crunchy - a perfect side for the hot dogs.
I appreciate how the buns here are big, sturdy enough to hold all the toppings, which are always fresh, and add the right amount of crunch and tang to each bite.
The hot dog itself is super flavorful and leaves me satisfied each time.
One of the other variants that I've had, 'The Dobbie', took me back to my time in Austin, TX, where really good food is just a part of their culture.
It came very close to one of the best hot dogs I've had there.
The place may be a small business and doesn't flaunt a high-end atmosphere, but it's comfortable.
In fact, you can find more about Dawg Pound on Google Maps.
Weller's Bistro
One of my favorite things about living here is the surprising variety of cuisines available, and Weller's Bistro certainly stands out.
Nestled within our city is this humble abode of German cuisine, a place where every visit becomes a delightful culinary adventure.
You can find them on this website.
My latest visit to Weller's was with a group of friends.
The night was filled with laughter, stories, and, of course, great food.
The mussels we ordered as an appetizer were easily the best I’ve had in a long time, so flavorful and fresh.
The Schnitzel was a hit, too.
I've visited Germany before, and I can confidently say that Weller's Schnitzel was even better than anything I had there.
The Apple Strudel and the Bee Sting Cake for dessert were the cherries on top of the meal.
The Bee Sting Cake, in particular, was a revelation.
If you are ever in Weller's, do yourself a favor and don't miss it.
The service at Weller's is another thing that deserves praise.
On weekends, they serve brunch, which is an absolute must-try.
Overland Pizza Co. & Ice Creamery
I have always been a huge fan of pizza, and when I discovered Overland Pizza Co. & Ice Creamery, it quickly became one of my favorite places to grab a slice.
There's something about the texture and taste of their pizza that sets it apart from others.
And the best part?
Every single pizza is made to order, ensuring that you get a fresh, hot, and crispy pizza every time.
However, what really stole my heart at Overland was their 'Fredo fries'.
These fries are nothing short of incredible and can easily pass off as a meal on their own.
What's more, the eatery is family owned and operated, which adds a warm and welcoming touch to the overall dining experience.
Now, let's not forget about their Gelato.
They make it in-house, and you can really taste the freshness and quality of the ingredients.
I was amazed to learn that they use all-natural ingredients, which truly reflect in the taste and quality of their food and desserts.
If you ask me, their Gelato is the perfect way to end a pizza meal.
It's fresh, delicious, and oh so refreshing.
Louie's Pizzeria
Just when I thought I had tried all the pizza places in the city, I discovered Louie's Pizzeria.
It's been an amazing find!
With a cozy, small-town feel and a tempting menu, I can confidently say that I've found a new favorite spot.
The pizza is simply divine - every bite bursts with flavors that have me coming back for more.
Louie's Pizzeria isn't just about pizza, though.
They have a unique item on their menu - the jalapeño popper bread.
I'm at a loss for words to describe how incredibly tasty it is!
The heat of the jalapeños pairs perfectly with the soft, warm bread, creating a harmony of tastes that leaves me craving for more.
On my first visit, I decided to try something different and ordered their calzone-style cheese bread.
It was nothing short of amazing - and there's something special about knowing that they make every item from scratch.
You can really taste the difference, even in their homemade butter!
I've been back several times since my first visit, and I've never been disappointed.
Whether you're picking up an order or choosing to dine in their indoor or outdoor seating, the experience is consistently great.
Zao Modern Asian Cafe
One of the perks of living in the area is having access to fantastic eateries like the Zao Modern Asian Cafe.
A personal favorite dish of mine is their rice bowls - the combination of brown rice, chicken, and teriyaki sauce hits the spot every time.
Plus, the veggies are always fresh, making it a delicious and wholesome meal.
Zao's food quality never disappoints.
The ingredients are fresh, and the flavors are always on point.
I recently switched to a gluten and dairy-free diet, and I was delighted to find that I could still enjoy the bowls here without any changes.
The quiet and relaxing atmosphere at Zao Modern Asian Cafe is a refreshing change from the usual hustle and bustle.
Sill's Cafe
It's a regular Wednesday morning, and my appetite is already stirring for a lovingly prepared breakfast at my frequently visited spot - Sill's Cafe.
This beloved, old-school diner has been a staple in our community for so long it's practically a landmark.
As you would expect at any mom-and-pop place, the atmosphere is friendly and inviting.
They've come to know my regular order - a fresh scone served piping hot, generously topped with a huge scoop of their heavenly honey butter.
Occasionally, I find myself indulging in their chicken strips with fries or the spicy chicken sandwich with tater tots, both dishes being excellent lunch options.
The sandwich arrives deconstructed, which allows me to assemble it my own way, adding just the right amount of lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and mayo.
What's not to love about Sill's?
The tots are always fried to perfection, achieving that crispy exterior and fluffy interior, almost reaching ambrosial standards, if I may exaggerate a bit.
The chicken is always flavorful and perfectly cooked.
And let's not forget the scone, fresh and soft, that melts delightfully in the mouth.
Even in the busiest hours, I've found the wait worth it.
Their homely, basic surroundings give off a comforting vibe, making it the ultimate spot for a leisurely breakfast or lunch.
Some may call it generic diner food, but for me, every dish, especially the divine scones, holds its own special charm.
While I'm here, I feel like I've stepped back in time, enjoying a meal at a place where the essence of classic American cuisine thrives.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to give their breakfast a try next time, maybe even try their deluxe chef salad.
Seoul Korean Restaurant
Every time I step into Seoul Korean Restaurant, it's like being transported straight into the heart of Korea.
This little gem, tucked away in our city, has become a regular haunt for me.
The family-run restaurant effortlessly captures the essence of traditional Korean cuisine, with a sprinkle of Japanese options thrown into the mix.
I recall taking my father-in-law here for his birthday.
The food arrived hot and fresh, so much so that I had to let my steaming plate cool down a bit before I could dig in.
Their menu is a treasure trove of Korean staples.
From the crispy Gunmandu to the flavorful Bibimbap, every dish is a testament to the culinary prowess of the team here.
The Spicy Pork Bulgogi and Beef Bulgogi are a dream; the portions are generous, and every bite is packed with authentic flavors.
And let's not forget about the Chicken Yakisoba.
This Japanese option on the menu is as delicious as the Korean dishes.
The noodles are perfectly cooked and topped with flavorful chicken.
What's more, I believe they serve the best Galbi in all of Utah.
The Japchae, with its perfectly cooked vegetables and meat on delicious noodles, is a personal favorite.
And on a cold day, nothing is more comforting than a bowl of their Sundubu.
The homemade Kimchi is simply ridiculous - in a good way, of course.
Little Taste of Britain
Every now and then, I like to do something different for a meal.
Just recently, I decided to step into Little Taste of Britain for the first time on a Friday evening.
The restaurant was bustling with people enjoying the delightful British fare.
The interesting layout and varied seating caught my eye instantly, giving off a lovely, laid-back atmosphere.
I have always been curious about British cuisine, and the menu here certainly got me intrigued.
It was simple and focused, offering classics such as fish 'n' chips, meat pies, and a variety of desserts.
The batter on the fish and chicken was delectably light, devoid of excess flavor, allowing the natural taste of the meats to shine.
The chips, equally light and delicious, along with their tasty sauces, set my taste buds alight.
The service at Little Taste of Britain is commendable.
It's efficient and friendly without making you feel rushed.
Diners take a number and wait for their meal, a system that I found convenient.
The place was clean and tidy, and vinegar was readily available.
Despite the location near an adjacent theatre, parking was never an issue.
A short walk is all it takes to reach the restaurant.
A unique feature is their little shop selling authentic UK products.
You can find anything from a can of Haggis to your favorite nostalgic treats.
I must say, I was tempted to load up on a few goodies during my visit.
The food is as authentic as it gets, with a simple menu boasting UK favorites that are served quickly.
The Spanglish LAYTON
Being a food lover, I recently ventured out to try The Spanglish LAYTON, a place I'd seen many times but never really had the chance to experience.
I must admit, I now regret not trying it sooner.
Parking was a bit of a challenge, but I managed to secure a spot on the side of the building where a little sign indicated customer parking.
As soon as I walked through the door, a friendly employee greeted me with a broad smile and offered assistance.
I’m not usually a fan of flavored water, but the tastes were so fresh and invigorating that I ended up ordering one.
For my meal, I followed the employee's recommendation and ordered a quesibirria burrito and shared a grande carne asada loaded fries with my partner.
To sweeten the deal, we indulged in a churro cheesecake and a tres leches cake for dessert.
The portion sizes at The Spanglish LAYTON are remarkable—enough to satisfy even the hungriest patron.
The burritos were cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside and tender and succulent on the inside.
The loaded fries were a revelation, perfectly spiced and so flavorful that I found myself thinking about them long after leaving the restaurant.
The desserts were a delight, made fresh, and hit the sweet spot without being overly saccharine.
Taste of India
I've lived in Utah for quite some time now, and if there's one thing I can vouch for, it's the authentic Indian food at Taste of India.
Trust me, I have had my fair share of curries around the city, and this place offers some of the most flavorful ones I've ever tasted.
Each bite is a delightful explosion of spices, making for an unforgettable dining experience.
You can check their menu on their website.
What makes the place even more worth a visit is the remarkable service.
The consistency of food quality is also commendable.
Every visit is as amazing as the last.
The Taste of India has become a mainstay when I crave some fiery Indian flavors.
The restaurant offers a selection of dishes, including some for the more adventurous palate, as they have extra-spicy options.
I've tried food from their lunch buffet, and it was nothing short of fantastic.
The eatery also offers a variety of delicious bread like garlic and aloo parantha Naan that can't be missed.
Hungry Howie's Pizza
The other day, I decided to try out a new pizza place in my city, Hungry Howie's Pizza, on Fort Lane.
You can find more about this here.
I'd heard a lot about its unique flavored crusts and decided it was time for me to taste it myself.
I and my daughter enjoyed our cheese pizza.
On another day, I decided to give Howie’s another shot.
This time, I ordered for delivery.
The food was also good!
Scrambled!
Just the other day, I stopped by Scrambled, a charming little spot right here in Layton.
I’ve always loved a good breakfast, and let me tell you, Scrambled knows how to do breakfast right!
The ordering process was quick and easy, and their menu boasts a variety of classic breakfast dishes that never disappoint.
One thing that made a delightful impression was their giant, scrumptious scones served with honey butter.
Their service was top-notch, friendly, and efficient, making me feel right at home.
Scrambled isn’t just for breakfast, they do a pretty mean lunch too.
I’ve tried their Cajun potatoes, and by golly, they were fantastic!
Everything felt house-made, even down to the chocolate milk.
Plus, they have a drive-through which comes in handy when I need to grab a quick meal.
I must admit, I have a soft spot for Scrambled because it’s locally owned and does its bit to support our local community.
For instance, they get their coffee from Daily Rise, a local coffee shop and distributor.
My personal favorites from their menu are the Chili Verde (don’t forget to add the extra pork, it’s totally worth it) and the Nutella Delight.
I took those home once, and they didn’t stand a chance!
You can get more information about them here.
Hook & Reel Cajun Seafood & Bar
I've been exploring seafood restaurants, and out of all of them, Hook & Reel Cajun Seafood & Bar has me hooked.
A culinary gem in the neighborhood, this place never disappoints with its tantalizing Cajun and Creole flavors.
My last visit was just as delightful as the first one.
I indulged myself in their crab meat roll and crab meat fries, which were absolutely phenomenal.
The freshness of the seafood and the irresistible flavors had me digging in until I was absolutely full - and even then, I found myself wishing for more.
My friends who tag along with me share my enthusiasm as well.
One of them tried their crawfish dish for the first time and was taken by the flavor.
The Cajun seasoning boil, with shrimp, snow crab, mussels, sausage, corn, and potatoes, has robust flavors and abundant serving.
If you don't mind getting a bit messy while eating, this place is definitely a must-visit!
Their appetizer plate of hush puppies, calamari, and fried oysters was a clear winner!
Cupbop - Korean BBQ in a Cup
I'm glad to have Cupbop - Korean BBQ in a Cup right around the corner.
I've been frequenting this place for months, and let me tell you, it doesn't disappoint!
Recently, I've developed a particular fondness for their glass noodles. It's like a little cup full of heaven!
What's great about Cupbop is how quick their service is.
The other day, my cup of food was ready in a jiffy, and all I had to wait for was my Korean corn dogs.
And if you haven't tried a Korean corn dog yet, I strongly recommend you do.
It was my first time trying one, and it was an absolute delight!
Aside from their scrumptious food, the place itself is quite inviting.
Clean and spacious, it gives you plenty of options to pick a spot to enjoy your meal.
I had a wonderful date night with my partner there recently.
Trust me, nothing beats the combo of mouth-watering food and a charming ambiance.
It's not just about serving good food, it's also about making the customers feel welcome, and they ace it every single time.
And on a side note, I can't recommend the Piggy Bop enough, especially with a spice level of 7.5.
It's just too good to miss out on.
Jarochos Restaurant
I was able to enjoy the mouthwatering Mexican cuisine at Jarochos Restaurant recently.
The inviting atmosphere and authentic dishes make it a favorite spot for me.
Their guacamole and salsa are simply the best in the city- fresh, flavorful, and the perfect level of spiciness.
The tacos taste just like what you'd get if you were actually down in Mexico.
It's a real treat to have such authentic food right here in our backyard.
I've also had the opportunity to try their "Street Tacos" and chicken enchiladas.
Both dishes were delicious and packed full of authentic Mexican flavors.
Even though the prices seem a bit high and the decor is basic, the quality of the food makes it worth every penny.
Another thing I appreciate about Jarochos is their willingness to accommodate customers, even those who show up close to closing time.
They never rush anyone, which is a testament to their excellent customer service.
I was also lucky enough to attend a sponsored event at Jarochos where they served a variety of their menu items.
The carne asada taco and chicken tamale with green tomatillo were standout dishes.
Thai Rod Dee
I always had a penchant for Thai food, but it wasn't until I stumbled upon Thai Rod Dee that I found my true love for it.
The place might not be the epitome of a swanky eatery, but don't let its humble appearance fool you because the magic truly lies in their food.
The Massaman curry here caught my partner's fancy, and swears by its authentic flavors.
I, on the other hand, took a liking for the sweet and sour chicken stir fry, a perfect balance of flavor that teases your taste buds.
We also have a mutual adoration for their cream cheese wontons, comfort food that never disappoints.
Whenever we have friends over, Thai Rod Dee never fails to be on our recommendation list.
The yellow curry and the Massaman with medium heat are our top picks for them.
Despite being relatively new to the world of Thai food, our friends have come to appreciate the unique flavors Thai Rod Dee has to offer, and that makes us the proudest locals of Davis County.
Pad Thai Thai Cuisine
I must say, Pad Thai Thai Cuisine is a must-visit!
This charming spot, located in a simple strip mall, is a hidden gem that offers classic Thai fare like no other.
The ambiance is appealing, with bamboo curtains and Asian art adorning the interiors, making you feel as if you've been transported straight to Thailand.
The service is consistently kind and prompt, making each visit pleasant and memorable.
One of the things that make this place stand out from other Thai places in the county is the freshness of their dishes.
I've never had a meal here that didn't taste freshly cooked and flavorful.
The food is equally impressive.
They have the best pad Thai around, although it is on the sweeter side, bathed in a sugary sauce.
Their panang curry is decent, boasting a generous serving of chicken.
But what truly sets their meals apart is the complimentary side salad with peanut sauce and a small egg roll that comes with the lunch special – all for just $10.99!
Not a fan of spicy food?
Don't worry!
You can adjust the level of spice to your liking.
I usually go for level 4 and add curry on the side.
Final Thoughts
From the rich, savory flavors at Red Fort Cuisine of India to the hearty meals at Dawg Pound and the delightful ice cream at Overland Pizza Co. & Ice Creamery, there's something for everyone in Layton.
I never miss a chance to grab a quick, delicious meal at Cupbop - Korean BBQ in a Cup, and Jarochos Restaurant, Thai Rod Dee, and Pad Thai Thai Cuisine are perfect for those nights when I'm craving something different.
Dining in Layton is always a treat, and I can't wait to explore more culinary gems in this city.
