Good Doggy

Every time I pass the bustling retail superstores around the city, I find myself drawn towards a quiet “mom and pop” hot dog diner tucked away in the mix - Good Doggy.

Their service is top-notch and always delivered with a smile.

It's a breath of fresh air amidst the fast-paced environment of the superstores surrounding it.

The menu is simple yet alluring.

One could argue that the crux of a good hot dog is great chili, and let me tell you, their chili is simply phenomenal.

It's the perfect base with an exceptional flavor that elevates your hot dog experience to a new level.

I’d highly recommend the Chili Cheese tots, which are my personal favorite.

The prices might be higher compared to other fast-food chains, but I assure you, it's worth every penny.

Supporting this locally owned and operated business brings a sense of pride and community.

Just when you think it can't get better, they surprise you with their macaroons.

Each bite is heavenly, melting in your mouth and leaving you craving for more.

It’s a perfect sweet end to a meal.

Good Doggy is an affordable experience, with nothing on the menu usually exceeding $6.

Michele's Catering Southern Home Cooking

Let me tell you about my little secret spot, the gem of Houma - Michele's Catering Southern Home Cooking.

This place, my friends, is where you head when you're craving home-cooked delectables.

One bite of their shrimp and grits, and you'll think your grandmother was in the kitchen.

The grits are creamy with a sauce that tantalizes your taste buds, and it's neither too spicy nor too salty.

Oh, and let me not forget about their heavenly strawberry salad.

Lunchtime could not be more perfect with this salad on my plate.

I usually opt for the fried chicken topping, and let me tell you, this is the best salad I’ve ever tasted.

The secret is in their house-made dressing, an absolute wonder!

But Michele's Catering isn't just about individual dining.

If you're planning a wedding or event, their catering service is unmatched.

The spread at my cousin's wedding was a sight to behold and even more delightful to savor.

Bayou Blue Po-Boys

You know that feeling when you bite into something so delicious you can't help but break into a little dance?

That's exactly what happens every time I get my hands on the shrimp po-boy at Bayou Blue Po-Boys.

The bread, reminiscent of The French Loaf, is soft, while the shrimp is fried to perfection.

Eating it feels like a celebration in my mouth.

It's not just the food at Bayou Blue that fills my heart with joy.

They're the kind of people who make you feel like a valued guest, not just another customer.

On one occasion, there was a slight mix-up with my order, but they went above and beyond to resolve it, even adding extras to ensure I enjoyed my meal.

L & R Sea Food

There's something about the taste of fresh seafood that just can't be beat, and that's exactly what I find each and every time I visit L & R Sea Food.

Just the thought of Mrs. Becky's friendly smile and the top-notch service is enough to put me in a good mood.

My journey with this unassuming venue started with a recommendation from a friend.

I was skeptical at first, but the moment I stepped in, I was welcomed by the warm hospitality that is a trademark of L & R Sea Food.

Buying from here has been a tradition ever since.

Now, let's talk about the food.

The crawfish are something else – cleaned to perfection, always a nice size, and full of flavor.

Not to mention the shrimps!

They are simply scrumptious.

Every bite bursts with a taste that is quintessentially ‘L & R,’ making it an indulgent experience you'd want to repeat.

Sarah's Mediterranean Cafe

You won't believe what treasure is hidden right in our backyard!

Sarah's Mediterranean Cafe is a culinary oasis that I stumbled upon some time ago.

You see, I had heard whispers about a burger cooked to perfection, and I had to find out if the rumors were true.

What I found was so much more than just a great burger.

It was a sunny afternoon when I first walked in.

I ordered their famous hamburger with fries, skipping the cheese but dressing it up to my taste.

Not to forget, a refreshing watermelon-flavored Aloe Vera drink to wash it down.

And let me tell you, the burger was an absolute delight, cooked to perfection and bursting with flavors.

The fries, crispy and delicious.

But the Aloe Vera drink!

It was as if I’d discovered a secret elixir - refreshing, tasty with surprising bits of aloe pulp that just added to the experience.

Being a fan of Mediterranean cuisine, the gyro platter called out to me on my next visit.

The gyros were more than great, they were a revelation.

Perfectly seasoned, and rich with authentic flavors, they were as delightful as the stories narrated by my Greek friend about his homeland.

And you must try the seasoned fries here - they're more than just a side dish, they're a treat in their own right!

They're always welcoming, friendly, and, most importantly, passionate about what they do.

BBQ City

Have you ever experienced that moment when you bite into a perfectly cooked brisket, and it's so tender, so flavorful, that you momentarily forget everything else?

That's the kind of culinary magic I've found at BBQ City.

I've been to a lot of barbecue joints, but let me tell you, this place is something else.

I've made it a habit to drop by BBQ City every chance I get.

The first time I went, their brisket and ribs simply blew me away.

Each bite was a delightful explosion of smoky, savory flavors.

As someone who's had his fair share of barbecues, I can confidently say their offerings can give any other barbecue place a run for their money.

BBQ City isn't just about the meat, though.

Their sides, like their angel eggs, are just as delectable.

They didn't have green beans or salad the last time I asked, but they were open to adding them to the menu – a great example of their commitment to customer satisfaction.

Every subsequent visit has lived up to that first excellent impression.

Their service is always prompt, the ambiance inviting, and the food consistently superb.

I've tried their smoky pork chop, their perfectly seasoned brisket, and their phenomenal chicken.

Each dish was a masterpiece, a testament to their skill and dedication to the art of barbecue.

Cannata's Cafe

You know how sometimes the heavens conspire to bless your palate with some divine flavor?

Well, that's precisely what happened to me at Cannata's Cafe.

One sunny afternoon, I decided to treat myself to a birthday lunch, and my choice could not have been better.

Picking up my lunch from Cannata's Cafe, my hands held the promise of a lavish feast.

As I opened the containers, the aroma of crab-boil soup greeted me, whetting my appetite instantly.

One spoonful of the soup, and I was in food heaven.

The delightful fusion of corn, potatoes, carrots, mushrooms, and crawfish, all simmered in a creamy base with the right balance of seasoning, made it one of the best soups I've ever tasted.

As I wiped the bowl clean, I couldn't help but think that everyone visiting Houma absolutely needed to sample this culinary delight.

Then came the piece de resistance, their fried fish.

The crunch of the outer layer gave way to the soft, flavorful fish inside, making each mouthful a joyous celebration of taste and texture.

Of course, my gastronomic adventures at Cannata's Cafe didn't stop there.

Their seafood gumbo had me hooked from the first spoonful.

I savored the plate lunches of fish with white beans & rice, jambalaya, crawfish pie, shrimp bouillettes, and white beans, which were scrumptious to the core.

One great thing about Cannata's is that they accommodate special orders.

I know this because I went for their smoked ribs twice, sans the sauces, and although they were out, they made it possible for me to still enjoy my meal.

Taqueria El Invasor

Whenever I'm craving authentic, mouthwatering tacos, my feet automatically lead me to one place - Taqueria El Invasor.

The delicious aroma of good food greets you as soon as you step in, making your taste buds tingle with anticipation.

Every bite of their tacos is an explosion of flavors.

The sudadero and buche tacos are my all-time favorites, with perfectly seasoned meat that's beyond comparison.

And don't even get me started on the Birria Tacos, which are only available on Saturdays and Sundays.

They're possibly the best taco in the state, and that's not an exaggeration!

What sets Taqueria El Invasor apart is their variety of meats.

Every meat they offer is top-notch, but the chorizo is a game-changer.

It's a beautiful blend of dry and oily, which might not sound tempting, but trust me, it's a flavor that stays with you.

I can confidently say that these are some of the best tacos I've ever tasted.

The vibe of the place is as authentic as their food.

It's always buzzing with to-go orders, a sure sign of its popularity.

Honest Abe's

There's a place in the city that makes every meal a culinary adventure and it's called Honest Abe's.

I've been there countless times, and I still can't get enough of their amazing food.

The 10-piece wing plate with fries is my go-to order.

You're not getting your typical small wings here, these are substantial, meaty pieces that make each bite a delight.

It sets you back $15.64, and believe me, it's worth every penny.

But it doesn't stop at wings.

Everything on the menu at Honest Abe's is worth tasting.

When I am in the mood for something different, their buffalo chicken sandwich is a delectable treat.

The bread is soft, the chicken is perfectly cooked, and the buffalo sauce gives it that perfect kick.

The fries on the side are the perfect companion to any dish.

For those days when I want to indulge a little, the loaded nachos never disappoint.

They use a different kind of chip that tastes fresh every time and you get a generous portion that's more than enough for one person.

The chicken sandwich is another must-try, with a big piece of chicken prepared just how you like it.

But Honest Abe's isn't just about the food.

The people who work here are some of the nicest you'll ever meet, always serving with a genuine smile.

Bayou Country Cafe

Here in our little corner of the world, at Bayou Country Cafe, we have something much more than just a restaurant.

It's a place that brings the community together, a place where everyone is welcomed with open arms, disability or not.

Just a road trip away, it's become a recent favorite of mine and my son's for a casual lunch date.

They are an absolute joy, with their infectious smiles and attentive service.

The menu changes monthly, keeping the regulars, like me, on our toes with the anticipation of what's to come.

Whether it's their daily specials or the regular fare, there is an enticing variety to choose from.

It's a surefire way to keep your palette interested and your stomach satisfied.

But what truly sets Bayou Country Cafe apart from other dining establishments is its dedication to inclusivity.

It's inspiring to see a place not only provide opportunities for those with disabilities but also champion their cause.

531 Liberty Cafe

There's a delight waiting to be discovered in every corner of our city, and one of my most treasured spots has to be 531 Liberty Cafe.

This charming eatery has truly reinvented how I perceive the humble salad.

I was skeptical at first, thinking salads were just for those counting calories.

But here I was, finding myself fully satiated after a single serving of their incredible Brussels sprouts salad.

On another occasion, I ventured to try my partner's choice of dish, the Turkey burger.

Let's just say it managed to impress even a die-hard steak lover like me.

I would be remiss not to mention their dinner offerings.

We ordered their Shrimp pasta and bacon jam burger, both of which were absolutely delectable.

The freshness of their ingredients was evident in every bite.

I had my pasta customized with extra shrimp and bacon, and it was every bit as wonderful as it sounds.

Crawfish Corner

Whenever the craving for boiled seafood hits me, there's only one place I can think of - Crawfish Corner.

It's like an unwritten rule in my life, a ritual I adhere to without fail.

The one thing that stands out at Crawfish Corner is the size of their crawfish.

These are not your ordinary crawfish.

No, these are huge, plump, and sourced live by the sack, ensuring the freshest taste possible.

I remember the first time I purchased them, I was taken aback by their size, but now it's just one of the many things I look forward to.

But size isn't the only thing they've got going for them.

The spice level of their seafood, especially crawfish, is like music to my palate.

There's just enough kick to make it exciting but not overwhelming.

It's like they've found the perfect balance.

And let's not forget about their special dip.

A secret concoction that somehow manages to elevate the experience to a whole new level.

It's something I'd highly recommend to anyone.

It's my go-to spot when I'm in the mood for some tantalizing Italian classics.

From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by a warm, cozy environment that instantly makes you feel at home.

The way the interior is arranged and decorated makes the whole dining experience feel much more intimate, something I've always appreciated.

They managed our group incredibly well, ensuring everyone was tended to and satisfied with their meal.

Cristiano Ristorante's website touts their seasonal menus and cozy patio seating, and they're not wrong.

During one particular visit, I decided to treat myself to their lamb and let me tell you, it was the best lamb I'd ever had.

The tiramisu was a dream — sweet, creamy, and absolutely indulgent.

Another standout feature was their expansive selection of wines and cocktails, perfect to complement your meal.

One night, my partner and I ordered steak with crab on top.

While the steak was cooked a little differently than we preferred, the crab was out of this world!

Song Phi Nong Thai Restaurant and Bar

Let me tell you about a hidden gem I recently discovered - Song Phi Nong Thai Restaurant and Bar.

Nestled in a little strip mall, it's the kind of place that takes you by surprise with its warm atmosphere and incredible food.

The first thing that struck me about Song Phi Nong was the sheer variety on their menu.

Traditional Thai dishes are presented in all their glory, with a range of curries, stir-fries, and other delectable delights.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the range of gluten-free and vegan options - it's a rare treat in our neighborhood.

Their food is not only diverse but also drool-worthy.

I ordered the ginger sauce with chicken on my first visit, and while it was a tad sweet for my taste, it was cooked to perfection.

Herradura Mexican Restaurant

Ever had a craving for authentic Mexican food that just won't quit?

That was me last night.

So, I decided to visit my favorite spot, Herradura Mexican Restaurant, tucked away behind Copeland's.

The food here is always on point.

Biting into their dishes, you can taste the carefully selected ingredients and the love poured into each recipe.

However, I must admit I had a small issue with my salad last night.

There were large pieces of bell pepper and onion, which I found a bit overpowering.

One thing that really stood out for me last night was their shrimp cocktail.

At first sight, I mistook it for a Bloody Mary – the shrimp were swimming in a delicious liquid.

It was an unusual but gratifying surprise.

The one thing that never disappoints at Herradura is the service.

Not to mention, the restaurant offers plenty of parking and is handicap accessible, making it a convenient choice for everyone.

As the night rolled on, we found ourselves enjoying Herradura's late hours.

It's one of the few places around that’s open until 10 pm, perfect for night owls like us.

There's something adventurous about a dish that allows you to tailor the taste to your preference.

However, be prepared for the house fries; they are richly seasoned, a delightful surprise for anyone who enjoys a good kick.

Big Mike's BBQ Smokehouse

There's nothing quite like a Saturday afternoon off, the smell of smoked meats wafting through the air, knowing you're about to sit down to a hearty feast at Big Mike's BBQ Smokehouse.

This family-run BBQ eatery has been a fixture in our city for years, consistently dishing up some of the best-smoked meats, burgers, seafood, and fried chicken in the area.

Whether it's your first visit or your hundredth, the warm and cozy atmosphere always feels like coming home.

Their portions are nothing short of generous.

One must-try is the 3 meat PitPlate - a delicious assortment of ribs, brisket, and chicken.

The ribs are my personal favorite, smoked to perfection, with a unique flavor profile that keeps you coming back for more.

The brisket is also worth mentioning, and if you're a chicken lover, you'll appreciate the touch of something different they bring to their version.

If you're feeling adventurous, their loaded BBQ potato is another crowd favorite.

However, don't forget to request for BBQ sauce on the side if you like your food saucy, as they might not automatically include it.

The sides are not to be overlooked either.

Siam House

If you're in the mood to tantalize your taste buds, I highly recommend you take a trip down to Siam House, my favorite Thai food restaurant in the city.

One word of caution though – their spice levels are not for the faint-hearted.

The Drunken Noodles here?

Just heavenly.

I typically opt for a spice level 5 – not just hot, it's volcanic.

But let me tell you, it's worth every fiery bite.

The mixture of spices and flavors is so perfectly balanced you'll be hooked after just one taste.

But if you're not one to dance with fire, a spice level 3 should do the trick.

It'll give you enough of a kick without causing a five-alarm fire in your mouth.

If noodles aren't your thing, I urge you to try their Pad Thai or the combination plate.

Not once have I been disappointed with these choices.

But let's not forget about the appetizers.

The hummus, paired with hot, fresh pita bread, set the tone for our meal.

I also heard rave reviews about their garlic paste from fellow diners.
