Joe's Bar
You find the most remarkable places when you least expect it.
In the heart of our city, hidden behind a rustic exterior and a bare-bones interior, lies a treasure called Joe's Bar.
The food here is the main attraction, and the star, in my opinion, is the Hungarian Hamburger – a 1/2 pound of sirloin that could make any local drool.
Also, Joe's Bar is not trying to be hip or trendy; it's not masquerading as a retro bar, but rather is a beautiful original.
It's the perfect place to unwind with an ice-cold beer and listen to Joe's captivating tales.
You'll meet the most interesting folks in city here, and if you don't have a good time, that's on you.
This bar might look like a simple watering hole, but it's so much more than that.
Foundry Kitchen and Bar
Let me tell you about my new favorite spot in city- Foundry Kitchen and Bar.
It's this casual, industrial-chic venue that offers some of the most delectable pub grub you've ever tasted.
This isn't your run-of-the-mill bar, no.
The food is elevated, the craft beers are diverse, and there's always a game-day special that will knock your socks off!
My first time there, I decided to try their Korean BBQ chicken sandwich and boy, am I glad I did!
It was juicy, flavorful, and simply mouthwatering.
To wash it down, I had one of their stouts.
With each sip, I fell more and more in love with the place.
Tempted by the smell wafting from the nearby table, I also ordered a pizza.
It was just as amazing as it smelled - the crust was perfect, the toppings were fresh, and the cheese was gooey and delicious.
The thing about Foundry Kitchen and Bar is that they have options for everyone.
They’ve mastered the art of creating a space that equally caters to families and date nights.
So whether you're looking for a new place to bring the kids or you're trying to impress that special someone, you'll find what you're looking for at Foundry Kitchen and Bar.
Plus, their prices are surprisingly affordable given the quality of their food and drinks.
Every time I walk in, the place is spotless - one of the reasons I keep coming back.
Cozzeria Pizzeria
If pizza had a home, it would most definitely be at Cozzeria Pizzeria.
This charming mom and pop establishment is where I've found some of the most mouth-watering pizzas in city.
My partner and I are regular patrons, and we've tried an array of their delightful offerings.
Still dreaming about the pierogi pizza we devoured on our last visit.
It was an unusual but delightful take on a classic, absolutely delicious.
The chicken bacon ranch pizza also deserves a special mention.
As pizza connoisseurs, we often order thin crust, and although it wasn’t as thin or crispy as we typically prefer, the taste was undeniably good.
We’re already planning to give them another shot soon.
And let's not forget about the appetizers; their garlic cheese bread is a must-try.
It's the perfect start to a fulfilling meal.
But the real showstopper has to be their wings - both bone-in and boneless.
We ordered them with BBQ, garlic parmesan, and Buffalo sauces.
The bone-in garlic parmesan wings were seasoned perfectly and cooked to juicy perfection.
Uncle Bo's Slow-N-Low BBQ
Let me take you on a flavor journey to a little gem I discovered in the unlikeliest of places.
Tucked away in the heart of Elyria, next to a practically deserted mall, sits a BBQ lover's paradise - Uncle Bo's Slow-N-Low BBQ.
Now, I've sampled a reasonable number of BBQ joints, from renowned ones in Memphis and Carolina to chains like Dickey's and Famous Dave's.
But let me tell you, Uncle Bo's is right up there with the best.
Landing upon Uncle Bo's was a pure stroke of serendipity, when a bout of lake effect snow led us to spend the night nearby.
It was an unassuming location, an old Lonestar that wasn't exactly bustling at 8 pm on a Friday.
But the moment the tantalizing aroma of BBQ wafted into our nostrils, we knew we were in for a treat.
The decor was charmingly rustic, and the menu was a delightful blend of traditional BBQ staples and unique treats.
Their offerings run the gamut from a catfish special, which I learned is a big hit during Lent in Elyria, to a mouthwatering platter of Beef Brisket.
The drink menu is equally impressive, with a wide selection of beers, wines, and alcohol concoctions.
We ordered Ozark Lemonaid and Carolina Blueshine, a decision we didn't regret.
During our meal, we asked for extra jalapeno and were presented with a whole fresh one.
Yihi Japan
"Busy and bustling" is how I'd describe a typical day at Midway Mall, and right in the thick of it all, you'll find Yihi Japan.
You can't miss it; whether you are shopping or just passing by, the scent of sizzling teriyaki is enough to turn heads.
The place is always teeming with people - a silent testament to their delightful Japanese fare.
I'll tell you this, the food is worth the wait.
The beef teriyaki is usually my go-to meal, although I must confess, there have been a few occasions where the beef was overcooked and the teriyaki sauce was a bit scant.
Even so, I couldn't resist digging in, the blend of flavors just hitting the spot right!
The eggrolls too have a way of drawing you in with their crispy, golden-brown allure.
They might get a tad too crispy sometimes, but they still pack a punch with the right amount of stuffing.
And the crab Rangoon? Absolutely delightful, even without the sauce.
Dawg House Bar & Grill
Have you ever craved for a hearty meal while watching your favorite game?
Well, I've had those moments, and believe me when I say, there's no better place in city than the Dawg House Bar & Grill.
The food, the ambience, and the people, everything is just perfect!
"Wednesday Nights are Wing Nights!" This is practically my motto now.
The wings they serve are the stuff of legends.
It's like being in your living room, only better because you don't have to cook!
The place is casual, friendly, and it's got that warm, family-like vibe that you don't find at many places these days.
Midway Oh Boy Restaurant
Midway Oh Boy Restaurant is more than just a dining spot, it's a treasured piece of our local history.
It's like taking a step back in time as you walk through the door and spot the classic jukebox selector at your table.
There's an authentic vintage vibe that you can't find in the modern, cookie-cutter diners.
The Oh Boy special is the talk of the town, but there's a wealth of variety on the menu.
For instance, the burgers are an absolute delight - juicy, well-seasoned, and taste like what a real hamburger should be.
Pair that with their crispy fries and you have a winner.
But save some room for dessert as they whip up treats fit for a president.
Despite its unassuming exterior, the place cooks up some of the best American cuisine around.
With its unique blend of nostalgia, quality food, and friendly service, it's no surprise that this place has stood the test of time.
Maguey Mexican Restaurant
I will never forget the night when I unexpectedly discovered Maguey Mexican Restaurant.
It was the night of a local basketball game, and we were looking for a place to grab a quick bite before the match.
We stumbled upon Maguey Mexican Restaurant, a place we had never tried before.
Initially, the place was empty.
However, as we dug into our appetizers, the place started to fill up, creating a lively atmosphere.
The appetizers were absolutely delightful and left us wanting for more.
Moreover, the drinks were refreshing and perfectly complemented the flavorsome Mexican food.
Definitely worth a try if you're in the area and craving for good Mexican food.
One thing that sets Maguey apart from other Mexican restaurants in the area is the quality of their food.
It's surely a cut above the rest.
The cozy atmosphere and kid-friendly environment make it a perfect spot for family dinners or catching up with friends.
Hazel's Family Restaurant
There's something uniquely comforting about a great breakfast joint, and that's exactly what you'll find at Hazel's Family Restaurant.
It's my go-to spot for a hearty American breakfast and has been a staple in our community since 1945.
Every dining experience at Hazel's is reminiscent of those homely Sunday breakfasts of the good ol' days.
Imagine your plate laden with golden hash browns cooked to perfection, a gooey runny egg perched on top, all mingling with flavours of fresh peppers and onions.
Adding to this delight is a smattering of melted American cheese that ties everything together— a feast that leaves you yearning for more!
What I love about Hazel's is their commitment to serving good, homestyle food.
My partner, who has food allergies, always has a plethora of options to choose from.
This little restaurant is far more than just its food, though.
From the best BLT I've ever had to pancakes that are nothing short of a dream, Hazel's Family Restaurant has something for everyone.
Wolfey's Bistro & Pub
There's a certain charm that you can only find in the heart of Elyria, and it's called Wolfey's Bistro & Pub.
I've been going there for quite some time now and I have to say, it never disappoints.
My visits to Wolfey's often start with their delicious American fare.
You can always tell when the food is fresh, and at Wolfey's, that's a guarantee.
One time, I dived into their deep-fried dishes and oh boy, the crispiness was just on another level.
Now it's something I look forward to every time I visit.
But Wolfey's isn't just about the food - it's also a haven for drink enthusiasts like myself.
With a long list of beverages, there's always something new to try.
Though I must say, a little more alcohol in their mixed drinks wouldn't hurt.
Apart from the food and drinks, there's always something happening at Wolfey's - from trivia nights to live music performances.
George's Family Restaurant
There's something truly unique and comforting about an old-fashioned, family-style restaurant like George's Family Restaurant.
Nestled in the heart of our city, it's the kind of place that instantly transports you back to a simpler time of laid-back dining and warm, hearty meals.
As soon as you walk through the door, you're met with a cozy, inviting ambiance that speaks volumes of the dedication and love that goes into maintaining this local gem.
The menu - straightforward and unpretentious, offers classic American diner fare that never fails to satisfy.
Whether it's a hot cup of coffee in the morning or a comforting plate of homemade pot roast in the evening, every dish is prepared with care and served with a smile.
Most of the time, the portions are just right, the service is swift, and the prices are unbeatable.
Don Tequila Elyria
Every city has that one place where the food, drinks, and atmosphere combine to create a truly unique experience.
For us, that's Don Tequila Elyria, which is not just a restaurant, but a carnival of tastes and a showcase of Mexican culture.
Where else in city could you find a cat robot delivering your food?
When you walk in, you can't help but be drawn to the impressive array of tequila and margaritas adorning the bar.
I can personally vouch for the gigante margarita, a thirst-quenching monster of a cocktail that's perfect for those Friday nights out.
The killer tacos and enchiladas?
Believe me, they live up to the hype.
But it's not just about the food and drinks.
Whether it's a quiet evening or a birthday celebration, the place is always buzzing.
They even serenade you with party horns and a sombrero if you're celebrating your special day!
Talk about setting the mood right.
Of course, no place is without its quirks.
What really sets Don Tequila Elyria apart, though, is its trendy and contemporary decor.
The vibrant colors and funky art pieces combine to make it a visual treat.
The bar area gets lively at night, with a blend of regulars and visitors adding to the ambiance.
And if you prefer a quieter experience, there's also a separate dining room.
Gyro Time
Ever in the mood for a gyro that hits just the right spot?
Well, look no further.
My latest culinary adventure led me to Gyro Time, a local gem I stumbled upon recently.
It was my first visit, and I was immediately drawn in by the menu.
I couldn't resist the jumbo gyro, packed full of fresh shawarma, cut right off the spit.
Every bite was a zesty delight, with the gyro meat tender and flavorful.
Along with the gyro, I tried the chicken gyro with a dash of feta.
It was seasoned with a peppery mix that made my taste buds dance.
But let's talk sides!
Their fries, jalapeno poppers, and fried cauliflower are all air fried.
This method gave them a unique taste that was different but enjoyable.
The jalapeno poppers, filled with cheddar, had a fantastic flavor that complemented the gyros perfectly.
The cauliflower was good, but not my favorite, although it might be to some others liking.
I also had to try their hummus.
Served with pita chips, it was cooked to perfection.
Not to forget, the breaded cauliflower was flavorful and well cooked.
The fries were crispy and perfectly seasoned, the perfect sidekick to my gyro.
Smitty's Place
When the craving for a perfectly made burger hits, the only place that comes to my mind is Smitty's Place in Elyria.
The moment you walk in, you're greeted by the tantalizing aroma of burgers sizzling on the grill, the hearty laughter of the regulars, and the friendly service.
Now, let's talk about the pièce de résistance - the Smitty burger.
Imagine a juicy, succulent burger that's so generously loaded, it's a delightful mess to eat.
The flavors are just right, hitting all the right notes of savory, tangy, and spicy.
On one such visit, a co-worker of mine, who usually steers clear of alcohol, couldn't resist the allure of their frozen tequila margaritas.
She ended up ordering not one but two servings of this refreshing drink.
Quick service, reasonable prices, and a friendly ambiance make Smitty's Place an absolute winner in my book.
Blue Sky Restaurant
There's one thing I can never resist, and that's a generous serving of delicious food.
And that's exactly what I found at Blue Sky Restaurant.
The last time I visited, I had so much food on my plate that I ended up taking some home for later!
I remember that it was a quiet afternoon - not a peak time, and the restaurant had this relaxed and calming atmosphere that I was looking for.
Now let's talk about the crown jewel - the breakfast offering at the Blue Sky.
It's called "The Bomb" and trust me, it's a bomb of flavors!
It's a scrumptious amalgamation of biscuits, gravy, eggs (cooked just the way you like), and home fries.
The mere thought of it makes my mouth water!
It's certainly my go-to dish whenever I want to start my day off with an incredible breakfast.
FriendShip Kitchen
There's nothing quite like the thrill of discovering a hidden gem in your own city.
Trust me, FriendShip Kitchen is more than just your average gas station.
Nestled right here in our bustling city, it is the perfect blend of a convenience store and a deli.
What sets FriendShip Kitchen apart, you ask?
Well, it's not just the fuel for your car that they offer, but also fuel for your body.
Their deli section is what dreams are made of.
A particular favorite of mine, and apparently many others, is their Mac & Cheese.
A word of caution though, their popularity means they run out quickly so be sure to call ahead and place your order.
However, what truly makes FriendShip Kitchen stand out is a perfect combination of its quality products and friendly service.
The place is always well stocked with healthier and different food selections than your standard gas station fare.
It's like a mini-gourmet store right in your gas station.
Speaking of friendly service, they seem to prioritize customer satisfaction quite highly.

After many meals and many memories, I can confidently say that Elyria is a city that truly knows how to dine.
Ultimately, these wonderful establishments not only serve up amazing food, but they also serve as a testament to the diverse, vibrant, and welcoming community that is Elyria.
