Super Weenie

Oh, the joys of living in a city with Super Weenie, a hot dog paradise!

It's not just about the hot dogs; it's the experience that comes with it.

Those guys running the place are the nicest folks you could ever meet.

Eager to please, they don't just serve the usual hot dogs; they're up for any challenge you throw at them.

I once asked for a Chicago-style dog, and boy, did they deliver!

The taste was phenomenal and perfectly satisfied my craving.

Super Weenie is a gem that West Virginia can proudly call its own.

The hot dogs are top-notch, the sauce is always on point, and the selection is vast enough to cater to all taste buds.

It's more than just a hot dog stall; it's a testament to the culinary prowess of WV.

Stepping outside the box, they also offer some unique flavors.

I was initially skeptical about the PB&J hot dog, but the blend of spicy jelly and bacon was a revelation.

Sweet, spicy, and savory all at once, it was a tastebud-tantalizing treat that I couldn't wait to have again.

Best of Crete Deli

Imagine biting into a gyro that bursts with flavors so authentic you'd think you were basking under the Mediterranean sun.

That's what it feels like every time I visit the Best of Crete Deli.

My absolute favorite is the Veggie Gyro Deluxe Platter.

It's loaded with fresh veggies and heaped with hummus - a delightful blend of flavors that leaves me craving more.

What makes it extra special is the cucumber sauce and feta cheese, which add a tangy twist to the flavor-packed gyro.

That's not all; the platter also comes with incredibly delicious green beans and orzo salad.

What I truly adore about Best of Crete is not just the food but also the people behind it.

One of the highlights of my many visits to Best of Crete is their gyros.

They're the best in West Virginia, and dare I say I've not had better gyros anywhere else.

I've been a regular patron of Best of Crete for over 30 years and can vouch for their consistent quality and taste.

And it's not just me who swears by Best of Crete.

Even friends who've moved out of state make it a point to drop by when they're in the city.

It's that good.

Every dish on the menu is a testament to the culinary expertise of Mike and his team.

WV Corner Kitchen

My taste buds had the pleasure of experiencing the gastronomic delights that the WV Corner Kitchen offers, and let me tell you, it was a culinary journey to remember.

The first time I tried the food here, I instantly knew there was something special about this place.

Yes, it's not your typical restaurant, but the flavors they serve are anything but ordinary.

Every dish served here is a masterpiece.

Their Mac n Cheese is a revelation – it even won a local award.

The steak is always cooked to perfection, and every item is delivered hot, fresh, and well-packaged.

Their commitment to quality is evident in the care they take, even in the little things, like wrapping their containers to prevent spills and maintain temperature.

And let me just rave about their pineapple upside-down cake.

I've grown up tasting my grandma's famous version, so it's safe to say I know a good one when I see it.

And here, it's simply the best I've ever had.

Another must-try is the tilapia; my partner can vouch for its deliciousness too.

The experience is not just about the food, though.

It's always a pleasure to support local businesses that put their heart and soul into their craft, and this kitchen is definitely one of them.

I can't wait to visit again; I've heard their meatloaf is a must-try on meatloaf day.

The ham salad and the bologna salad are also worth sampling and don't even get me started on the delectable cherry cheesecake and pineapple cheesecake.

Cozumel Express

Every time I crave a taste of authentic Mexican cuisine, my palate automatically leads me to Cozumel Express.

It feels like a hidden gem tucked in the heart of Charleston, serving some of the best chips and salsa I've ever tasted.

Imagine this - sitting at one of their rustic wooden tables, munching on crispy, warm chips dipped in tangy salsa, while waiting for your main dish.

It's an appetizer that never fails to prepare your taste buds for a Mexican culinary adventure.

For mains, the juicy steak fajitas are my regular order.

They're cooked to perfection - tender, flavorful, and generously portioned, enough to share with someone.

And believe me, after those chips and salsa, you'll be glad to share!

If you and your date have a penchant for steaks, be ready for a delightful experience without burning a hole in your pocket.

Cozumel Express, in my opinion, ranks high as one of the best affordable date spots.

The diverse drink selections enhance the dining experience further.

Whether you're in the mood for a zesty margarita or a classic Mexican beer, they've got you covered.

There's something for every kind of beverage enthusiast here, making each meal a delightful experience.

The Quesadilla de Berria is another crowd favorite, and rightfully so.

The taste is genuinely Mexican, bursting with flavors in every bite.

But, the dining experience won't be complete without trying their dessert - a creme-filled churro.

Drizzled with raspberry sauce, it's the perfect sweet ending to a flavorsome meal.

What makes dining at Cozumel Express even more pleasurable?

Their fantastic service.

Every visit feels like a warm welcome home.

Phat Daddy's on The Tracks

If you're after a true gastronomic adventure, then let me tell you about my favorite hideaway, Phat Daddy's on The Tracks.

Nestled in the heart of my hometown, this culinary gem might seem off the beaten path, but trust me; the detour is more than worth it.

The first time I stepped into Phat Daddy's, I was instantly captivated by the funky paint job and the array of brightly colored, inviting seats that had such a homey feel.

And then, of course, there's the food.

Oh, the food.

Every bite is a revelation, from the perfectly grilled shrimp and rice that's both delicious and light to the brisket sandwich that leaves you speechless.

Yes, it's that good.

Their brisket is perfectly cooked - tender and juicy, with a caramelized-type crunch that takes it to another level.

Should you, not fancy brisket, there are plenty of other options.

Their hot dogs, empanadas, and onion rings are to die for, not to mention the carrot cake - the perfect sweet ending, thankfully sans raisins.

Quirky, right?

But it works!

But what sets Phat Daddy's apart even more is their incredible customer service.

You're not just another diner here; you're treated like family.

They are genuine, kind-hearted, and super friendly, making an already fantastic experience even better.

So, whether you're a resident or just passing through, give Phat Daddy's on The Tracks a shot.

Chow Thai

Oh, what a delight it is to have Chow Thai right here in our lovely Charleston.

Now, if you've never had the pleasure of visiting this little gem, I highly recommend you do so.

It's tucked away in a simple yet cozy setting, which only adds to its charm.

Chow Thai is not your average Thai restaurant; they've taken classic Thai dishes and added their unique twist to them.

One chilly Tuesday evening, I decided to skip cooking dinner and instead treat myself to some Thai cuisine.

The first thing you notice when you walk in is the welcoming, relaxed atmosphere.

Soft, soothing music played in the background as I approached the counter to place my order.

I was faced with a limited menu, but oh my, the dishes available were all enticing.

After some thought, I went with their PA Mama, a wonderfully delicious dish of fried Ramen noodles with shrimp.

The flavors burst in my mouth with every bite, making me appreciate the skill and passion that went into preparing the dish.

I also noted that the portions were quite generous despite the fair pricing.

One thing to keep in mind, though, is that they're not open past 6 pm.

So, plan ahead if you want to enjoy a delicious meal from Chow Thai.

There's never a shortage of to-go orders, and I can understand why.

Their food is simply a delight to the taste buds, whether enjoyed in their quaint setting or the comfort of your home.

I've been back multiple times since that Tuesday, trying out different dishes, and I've yet to be disappointed.

Their Thai fried rice with beef is a knockout!

1010 Bridge

Nothing whispers "comfort" to me more than the familiar warmth of the restaurant tucked away in the heart of our city, 1010 Bridge.

It's become a sort of haven for me after long days, a place where the clattering of dishes and the lively chatter of fellow patrons is a melody that I've grown to cherish.

I've dined at 1010 Bridge more times than I can count, and each visit has always been an experience to remember.

Once, on a whim, I decided to try their cold soup.

Such a peculiar sensation to taste a soup that wasn't piping hot.

But to my surprise, it was a refreshing delight.

I remember squeezing some warm soup into the mix for a contrasting taste, and it was nothing short of culinary brilliance.

Menu recommendations?

I'd definitely suggest the Wagyu Beef Short Rib.

The meat is so tender it almost melts in your mouth, and the flavors are simply divine.

I have to admit, one of my favorite parts about living here is that I'm just a stone's throw away from Wheelhouse.

This counter-serve lunch spot is unlike any other, with its neatly organized, unfussy ambiance and a nautical theme that takes you straight to the seafront.

The food at Wheelhouse is, without exception, absolutely scrumptious.

You can taste the freshness in their sandwiches, soups, and salads.

Every bite you take makes it clear that high-quality ingredients are the backbone of their meals.

They also change things up with their daily specials, which are always delightful surprises.

But the experience is not just about the food.

They have a way of making you feel at home and treating you like family, which is something you don't find at every restaurant.

One of my favorite memories there was when my little girl tried their pickles for the first time.

Her verdict?

"The pickles are life!"

In addition to the food and the service, Wheelhouse also shines in its hygiene and cleanliness.

Not a speck of dust or grime can be found.

And, when the holidays come around, their pastries and sweet treats are a must.

The Loopy Leaf

"Home is where the heart is," they say, and my heart has found its home at The Loopy Leaf.

This gem nestled in our city is a haven for those searching for a cozy atmosphere paired with scrumptious food.

Stepping into The Loopy Leaf is like being enveloped in a warm, welcoming hug.

The breakfast slam sandwich here is a game-changer.

Nestled between two slices of perfectly toasted bread are fresh ingredients, coming together to create the perfect symphony of flavors.

I've also had my fair share of Italian subs, but the vegan Italian sub at The Loopy Leaf takes the cake.

It's the sandwich of my dreams - the kind that makes you sigh with joy after every bite.

You might think cleanliness would be a given, but The Loopy Leaf takes it a notch higher.

Not only are the bathrooms immaculately clean, but they are also well-stocked with sanitary products.

It's the attention to detail that makes a difference.

The Loopy Leaf is a champion for dietary inclusivity.

As someone with gluten allergies, finding a place that not only caters to my dietary restrictions but also prioritizes allergy protocols is like finding a needle in a haystack.

With its fantastic gluten-free selections, everyone can enjoy a meal without worry.

The rainbow salad, a burst of vibrant colors and flavors, is the stuff of dreams.

And the nachos!

Let's just say they've made quite a few appearances in my dreams.

I can hardly resist the charm of downtown Charleston, especially with all its hidden culinary gems.

One such gem that I’ve discovered, after a bit of schedule juggling, is an amazing spot named Coco's.

Every once in a while, I manage to squeeze in a visit, and I can't help but wish I could do so more often.

The food here is beyond satisfying - very good in fact, and the service?

Absolutely delightful, brimming with that Southern friendliness we are so proud of.

The dining space is like a warm embrace.

It's comfortable, welcoming, a haven amidst the city's hustle and bustle.

It's definitely the kind of place where you want to be a regular if only work hours permitted.

But it’s not only the cozy ambiance that draws me in.

Their breakfast menu has me hooked.

The breakfast sandwich and breakfast burrito?

Nothing short of fantastic and easily some of the best morning fuel you can find in Charleston.

Noah's Restaurant & Lounge

A hidden gem tucked away in our charming city of Charleston, Noah's Restaurant & Lounge is where I find myself unwinding after a long day.

Frequented by locals and visitors alike, Noah's offers an inviting, snug space that seems to escape the usual noisy clamor of typical eateries.

For more about this delightful spot, you can check out their site here.

My usual haunt is their bar area.

An informal setting, perfectly balanced with an air of sophistication, it's where I met Hutch.

A mixologist who spins magic with his shaker, he's always ready for a friendly chat and knows exactly how to shake up a drink to fit your mood.

But Noah's is not just about the drinks.

Their menu is a beautiful medley of modern bistro dishes, all made with seasonal ingredients.

I've grown quite partial to their Chicken Piccata.

The dish is cooked to perfection and has a unique taste that has kept it in my thoughts long after my meal.

However, their menu doesn't end there.

Dishes like roasted romaine salad, shrimp and grits, and chicken marsala are only a few on the list that are worth a try.

Hale House

One thing is for sure, the charm of West Virginia is incomplete without the delightful culinary experience at Hale House.

This place has been my favorite go-to spot for dinner, especially when hosting friends from out of town.

The anticipation starts building right from the moment you book your table; yes, you'll likely need to make a reservation - it's that popular!

A tantalizing feast awaits you, from the succulent prime rib to the mouth-watering crab cakes.

Oh, and don't even get me started on their burgers!

Each bite is a burst of flavors that'll have you craving more.

But the gastronomic journey doesn't stop at the food.

Hale House is also celebrated as the best bourbon bar in the city.

The speakeasy they have nestled in the basement is a must-visit.

It's like embarking on a delightful time travel to the old-fashioned ways of enjoying a drink.

The service?

On my numerous visits, I've had the pleasure of being served by Deasley and Luke.

Their warm hospitality, attentive service, and wonderfully engaging personalities are just the cherry on top of the entire dining experience.

Now, if you're not a fan of crab cakes, I'd still urge you to try these ones.

I was skeptical at first, but oh boy, was I proven wrong!

They're simply to die for.

I can't wait to head back for another round after the arrival of my baby.

Oh, and the salmon with asparagus - another delightful choice.

Vinny's Pizzeria

I must tell you, there's nothing better than biting into a slice of delicious New York-style pizza right in your backyard.

I've been blessed to experience this backyard bliss at Vinny's Pizzeria, a local joint that's rolling out some seriously good pies.

One thing that always stands out at Vinny's is their perfect crust.

It's always crispy, even when loaded with a plethora of toppings.

But that's not all.

They also do excellent cheesy breadsticks and garlic wings.

The cheesy breadsticks are the perfect blend of doughy and cheesy, and the garlic wings?

Talk about a flavor explosion.

They're crispy, juicy, and loaded with garlicky goodness.

You know, my partner is one of the pickiest eaters I know.

We've tried a number of dishes, and everything has left us wanting more.

The breaded wings are something else.

They're so large and crispy, and the taste is just out of this world.

Vinny's is always a great place to stop by and grab a bite.

Plus, it's always a joy to sink your teeth into a plain extra cheese pizza and a slice of cheesecake.

My palate is rather picky, having tasted food from all over the US, but these two dishes at Vinny's – easily score a perfect 10/10.

The place may be housed in an old building, but the divine food makes you overlook everything else.

Pepperoni Grill

Imagine sinking your teeth into a hot, delicious, and aromatic Pepperoni roll, one that's so good it will have you coming back for more.

That was my experience when I first discovered Pepperoni Grill.

The authenticity and flavors served in this place make every visit an absolute delight!

During my numerous visits, I've had the opportunity to taste many of their offerings.

Their Philly Cheese Steak pizza comes as a highly recommended choice, brimming with rich flavors.

Trying their Italian meatball pizza was also an exciting culinary adventure!

Although the flavor of the meatballs slightly got lost due to the pepperoncini, it was still a delight to devour.

But the Pepperoni Grill isn't just about pizzas.

Their cookies and brownies are simply irresistible!

They are so good; I would go as far as saying I'd trade a vital organ for one of those.

I can't skip mentioning the Pizza Lunch Special I recently had at Pepperoni Grill.

I decided to upgrade to the Spinach Feta Pizza and boy, was it worth it!

With a crust that's cooked to perfection and toppings that are fresh and bountiful, this pizza was simply incredible.

Accompanied by a salad with homemade Greek Dressing, it made for a memorable lunch!

The menu is a refreshing blend of healthy and delicious, a combination that's rare to find.

I still remember my first visit to Shape Shop Cafe, and how blown away I was by their service.

Even though they were hustling and bustling with their many duties, they never missed a beat in making sure I was taken care of.

And the food?

Absolutely divine.

I tried the Southwestern wrap, and it left me pleasantly surprised by how filling it was.

So much so that I had to take half of it home!

Karubees Jamaican Restaurant

Ever dreamt of a culinary adventure that you can embark on without leaving your hometown?

Well, that's exactly what I experienced at Karubees Jamaican Restaurant.

This charming, unassuming restaurant has been my go-to for home-cooked Jamaican cuisine.

I remember being a bit unsure about trying the goat meat, but she was kind enough to offer a sample before I committed to a full meal.

I ended up loving it - the meat was tender and richly spiced, reminding me of the hearty meals I'd enjoyed during my travels.

And let me tell you - the flavors at Karubees are just the tip of the iceberg.

One of my all-time favorites is their Jerk Chicken lunch special.

Served with white rice and mixed veggies, this dish perfectly balances the heat of Jamaican spices with the comfort of traditional sides.

The chicken always has a beautiful char on the outside, and the inside is juicy and flavorful.

And for just $15, it feels like a steal.

But it's not just the meat dishes that shine at Karubees.

As a vegetarian friend of mine raves, this restaurant also serves some of the best vegetable dishes in the city.

The collards are exceptional, and the cabbage and rice dish with a little spicy kick is simply too good to pass up.

Laury’s Restaurant

There's something magical about spending an evening with dear friends, sharing laughter and stories over a warm, delicious meal.

That's just the experience I had last weekend at Laury's Restaurant.

The place is a gem hidden in our city, giving us a taste of French-inspired American dishes with a view of downtown and the river.

Entering Laury's, we were immediately embraced by a welcoming atmosphere, the murmur of friendly chatter mingling with the clink of cutlery.

We had wisely made reservations and were promptly seated at a table with a breathtaking view of the river.

As the evening wore on, the city lights twinkling against the dark water created a truly enchanting backdrop.

The food, needless to say, was sublime.

I opted for the duck, a dish that had been recommended to me by several friends.

It was cooked to perfection, tender and flavorful, and served atop a bed of tasty sides.

My friends were equally impressed with their choices - the escargot seemed a particular hit, described as some of the best they've had.

We ended our meal with a delightful selection of desserts, the standout being the bananas foster, which paired perfectly with the coffee service.

Dem 2 Brothers And A Grill BBQ

From the moment you step into the homey confines of Dem 2 Brothers And A Grill BBQ, the seductive aroma of slow-smoked ribs and pulled pork takes over.

As a seasoned barbecue aficionado, this unpretentious eatery has become one of my regular haunts.

Their menu, a hearty collection of BBQ staples paired with Southern sides and a bar, is the perfect recipe for comfort food.

The barbecue here, let me tell you, it's terrific.

The brisket is consistently moist, and the ribs, despite being thin, pack a punch of flavor that's hard to resist.

And they serve whole ribs, not just baby backs, mind you.

Visiting this place doesn't just stop at meat, though.

The potato salad and beans are a must-try.

It's a sin not to mention these fantastic sides when talking about Dem 2 Brothers.

It's a true testament to Southern cuisine.

And despite their rather aloof demeanor, the team behind the counter should be proud of the food they serve.

Their online ordering is a godsend, especially when we're on the move.

Nothing beats a rewarding pit stop to grab some ribs, a pulled pork sandwich, baked beans, and sweet potatoes.

Their food more than makes up for it.

Of course, it's not just a local joint.

I've seen plenty of travelers swing by to get their BBQ fix.

It's not unusual to see cars with out-of-state plates in the parking lot.

Even my Texas friends, who are quite the BBQ experts, approve of this place.

Their ribs, potato salad, and greens are highly recommended.

You might even find unexpected treats on their menu, like the fried wings.

Plaza Maya

You know how sometimes you stumble upon a hidden gem in your city, and it becomes an absolute favorite?

That's exactly what happened when I discovered Plaza Maya.

It's become my go-to spot for authentic Mexican cuisine in the heart of Kanawha City.

Whenever the craving for some fiery salsa or a hearty burrito hits, I find myself heading their way.

It's the enchanting murals on the walls and the warm hospitality that pulls me in, but it's the food that makes me stay.

The first time I stepped into Plaza Maya, their vibrant space immediately caught my attention.

A visit to their website Plaza Maya somehow doesn't do justice to the lively atmosphere you experience in person.

However, my palate was even more delighted than my eyes.

From the burrito grande to the pollo Yucatan, everything I've tried over the years is seasoned to perfection.

And let's not forget about their drinks!

The bartenders are super friendly and know their way around the bar exceptionally well.

A Plaza Maya trip isn't complete without one of their signature margaritas, which is the perfect antidote to the heat of their salsa.

What makes me adore Plaza Maya, even more, is their willingness to adjust their dishes to your preference.

Whether you're a vegetarian or a meat lover, they've got you covered.

Plus, they are always ready with suggestions if you're feeling indecisive.

In a nutshell, Plaza Maya has secured a special place in my heart and stomach.

It's the closest I can get to Mexico without leaving Kanawha City.

The best part?

The portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable.

It's truly a win-win situation.

Thyme After Time

Imagine the pleasure of stumbling upon a unique restaurant that not only serves palatable fare but also caters to your love for local businesses.

I discovered such a place in Charleston, right near my workplace.

It's called Thyme After Time Southern Cuisine & Catering.

Unable to resist, I ordered their French dip sandwich and fries lunch special.

The generous portions and the flavourful food instantly won me over.

The French dip sandwich was to die for, and the fries were perfectly crispy.

On my subsequent visits, I experimented with different dishes.

Each time, I was pleasantly surprised.

Everything from chicken gizzards to sweet mac and cheese was cooked to perfection.

Even though I must confess, I wasn't a sweet mac and cheese fan before, there was something about the way it was cooked here that made me order an extra serving.

One time, I tried their fish sandwich dinner with potato salad and macaroni and cheese on the side.

While the potato salad and macaroni and cheese were delightful, I found the fish to be a tad too salty for my liking.

However, the superb customer service and the overall dining experience were enough to make up for it.

I also ventured to try their jumbo-sized wings with BBQ sauce on one of my visits.

Although the tangy BBQ sauce had a peculiar aftertaste, the wings were cooked just right and were quite enjoyable.

What makes Thyme After Time special is not just the food or the affordability but the homely and pleasurable ambiance that is a signature of local businesses.

As I continue to discover new places and revisit old favorites, I count myself lucky to live in a city with such a vibrant and delicious culinary landscape.
