The city may be small, but it's teeming with fantastic dining experiences that will delight any food enthusiast.
From savory steaks to flavorful ethnic cuisines, I promise you that Bismarck's restaurants will not disappoint.
So, allow me to be your personal guide as we embark on a gastronomic journey to discover the best restaurants in Bismarck, North Dakota.
India Clay Oven Bar and Grill
Oh, what a delightful evening I had last week at the India Clay Oven Bar and Grill!
As soon as I stepped inside, I felt transported to another part of the world – the beautiful setting and classy-authentic atmosphere were incredibly inviting.
Being a first-timer of Indian cuisine, I found the extensive menu to be a bit intimidating.
I ended up trying the chicken biryani, which was absolutely scrumptious!
The dish was bursting with vibrant colors and flavors, and the portion was quite generous.
I've also heard great things about their brunch buffet, so that's definitely on my to-try list as well.
EAT Thai Cafe
Let me tell you about this hidden gem in our neighborhood - EAT Thai Cafe.
I stumbled upon their website, eatthaicafe.com, and decided to give it a try.
This easygoing counter-serve restaurant offers familiar Thai plates for dine-in or takeout, and I must say, it didn't disappoint!
From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming and cozy, with a small, modern dining area.
The service was enjoyable, and I was greeted with a smiling face, making me feel right at home.
I ordered their Pad Thai, and the portion was bigger than it appeared.
Not only was it delicious, but the price was reasonable too.
It's true that the price might be a bit higher than in some other Thai places, but the quality of the ingredients is definitely worth it.
The shrimp was fresh and of great quality, which added an extra layer of flavor to the dish.
I've also tried their pineapple fried rice, and it was fantastic.
The dish had fresh veggies and a generous portion, making it a satisfying meal.
As a frequent visitor to Charras Bismarck, I must say that this place has never disappointed me.
My family and I often head to Charras for dinner, and we absolutely love it!
The last time we visited, my partner and I shared the 'fajitas for two,' and it was the perfect portion size for both of us.
We also ordered guacamole, which was prepared fresh right in front of us, and it tasted absolutely divine!
The shrimp dishes are my personal favorite, and the variety of flavors they offer is quite impressive.
Apart from the delicious food, I must commend Charras Bismarck for their exceptional cleanliness.
Even on busy weeknights, when the restaurant is packed, everything is kept in pristine condition.
Let me tell you about one of my favorite spots in town, The CraftCade.
This place has it all - pizza, arcade games, and a full bar.
My friends and I usually head over around 7:30 PM, and there's always something fun going on, like karaoke or black Jack.
The atmosphere is fantastic, and the food is even better.
We've tried their Asteroids pizza and a couple of others, and they never disappoint.
The 12/10 rating I'd give it really says it all.
Laughing Sun Brewing Co.
One of my favorite spots to hang out in Bismarck has to be Laughing Sun Brewing Co.
I can't get enough of their amazing beer selection, fantastic food, and top-notch customer service.
Whenever I have friends or family visiting from out of town, I make sure to take them here to experience the best that Bismarck has to offer.
Their Feast Like a Sultan IPA is hands down one of the best IPAs I've ever tasted, and I always pair it with their mouthwatering Burnt Ends and Mac and Cheese.
The brisket is another must-try dish that's always tender and juicy.
And you can't leave without indulging in their homemade pretzel with beer cheese – the perfect starter to any meal.
Aside from the food and drinks, the atmosphere at Laughing Sun is always warm and inviting.
Country House Deli
Just the other day, I decided to swing by Country House Deli for lunch, and boy, am I glad I did!
As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the cozy and inviting atmosphere, with good music playing in the background.
One of the things I love about this deli is the variety of bread choices and ingredients for their sandwiches.
This time, I went for their "regular" size Club on white bread, and it was absolutely amazing.
The sandwich came out fresh, fast, and delicious, which is something I've come to expect from Country House Deli.
Being a locally owned, small business, I take pride in supporting them.
I even noticed a sign on the window that said "veteran-owned", which, if true, makes me even more excited to continue supporting this wonderful establishment.
Next time, I'm planning to try their Happy Hour Brew 'n Buns – I've heard it's a great snack paired with a refreshing beverage!
Little Cottage Café
I always find myself coming back to the Little Cottage Café for breakfast.
It's a cozy, welcoming diner that has this nostalgic atmosphere that reminds me of a simpler time.
You can check out their menu here.
The food is always delicious, and I appreciate that they have an American menu with some German items.
I've tried many breakfast spots in town, but none of them quite compare to the hearty meals and fair prices at Little Cottage Café.
The last time I stopped by, I decided to try their Chicken Fried Steak.
It came with brown gravy, which was unusual, but it actually tasted pretty good!
Yim Siam Thai
I recently decided to try out Yim Siam Thai for a takeout dinner.
I really enjoyed the Moo Tot (pork riblets), which was a solid 10/10 for me.
The sweet-and-sour stir fry was also pretty good, scoring an 8/10 in my book.
The prices were fairly reasonable compared to other restaurants, ranging from $10 to $15.
Next time I order from Yim Siam Thai, I think I'll try their noodle dishes and see if those are impressive.
I recently dined at Butterhorn with a group of friends.
The Italian salad featured a tasty dressing.
I also found the side salad refreshing.
The pumpkin soup was enjoyable as well.
The highlight of the meal was the pot de crème.
The drunken cranberries added a delightful tart flavor to the crème.
I must say, Pirogue Grille has become one of my favorite spots in Bismarck.
It's a cozy and welcoming place where they serve seasonal American cuisine with a focus on local bison, meats, and produce.
One of the things I appreciate the most about this restaurant is the warm, brick-walled space, which creates a perfect atmosphere for a romantic dinner.
You can check their website here to explore their menu and make reservations.
The last time I visited, I had an incredible time.
From the moment I called to make a reservation to leaving after our meal, the entire experience was phenomenal.
Their menu is always a delight, but this time I tried bison medallions, and they were pretty good.
However, the walleye blew me away – it was absolutely incredible!
The beet salad and pavlova were also delicious, with flawless presentation and attention to detail in every course.
Fireflour Pizzeria & Coffee Bar
I've been to Fireflour Pizzeria & Coffee Bar several times now, and I can confidently say that it's one of the best pizza places in town.
The moment you walk in, you're greeted by the mouthwatering aroma of their Neapolitan-style pizzas cooking in their 900°F ovens.
The minimalist and contemporary design of the place adds to the charm and overall experience.
I've tried a variety of their pizzas, ranging from their classic red sauce pizzas to their delightful white pizzas, and they've all been consistently delicious.
The crust is crispy yet chewy, with just the right amount of crunch, and the toppings always taste fresh and flavorful.
Aside from pizza, I've also enjoyed the olives (watch out for the pits!) and the side salads that come packed with nuts and veggies.
For dessert, they offer fresh-made, huge cookies and sorbet with different flavors available each night.
As someone who regularly visits local eateries, I recently dined at Bistro 1100 with a group of friends.
The restaurant offers an eclectic American menu and is housed in a former carriage house adorned with terra cotta walls and Grecian art.
The ambiance is certainly unique, giving off a cozy and inviting vibe.
Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly and seated promptly.
I have always enjoyed their lobster bisque and appetizers, so I was eager to introduce my friends to these dishes.
While the bisque did not disappoint, I must say the dinner menu was a bit underwhelming.
One of my friends ordered a creamy pasta dish, which unfortunately had large, unappealing chunks of asparagus.
This was quite surprising, as I have previously had positive experiences with the service at Bistro 1100.
Despite these hiccups, the overall experience was still enjoyable.
Bistro 1100 is a lovely venue for a special occasion, offering good food and attentive service.
I finally had the chance to visit Noodlezip after hearing so many great things about it from friends and fellow local residents.
I must say, it exceeded my expectations!
As soon as I walked in, I noticed how the space has expanded since the last time I was here before the pandemic.
The new dining area is spacious, cozy, and inviting.
I started my meal with the appetizer of pork dumplings, which were absolutely amazing - a perfect 10/10 for me.
Next, I tried the spicy eggplant, and although it wasn't too spicy, it was incredibly delicious.
I paired this with the shrimp fried rice, which was packed with juicy shrimp and sprouted mongo.
The Vietnamese Pho was the highlight of my meal – so flavorful and comforting, especially when topped with lime and a touch of soy sauce or sriracha.
Although the beef pho might not be their strongest dish, the rest of the menu more than makes up for it.
The Korean dishes, in particular, were authentic and delicious.
One of my favorite spots to grab a meal and catch up with friends is Walrus Restaurant in Bismarck.
Their elevated comfort fare and extensive selection of over 40 craft beers on tap always make for an enjoyable dining experience, accompanied by a warm and inviting atmosphere.
The last time I was there, I tried one of their specialty pizzas off the special menu.
It was absolutely delicious, with a perfectly balanced crunchy and chewy crust and unexpected toppings like pork belly, beet, and Italian sausage.
It was a pleasant surprise to find such unique and mouth-watering combinations in a cozy little eatery like this.
Though the lighting may be on the dim side, which can make it a bit challenging to read the menu, it adds to the laid-back, intimate atmosphere of the place.
Walrus Restaurant is perfect for a simple date night or a fun evening out with a group of friends.
I am always on the hunt for authentic and delicious Mexican food.
And I must say, I struck gold when I discovered La Carreta Mexican Restaurant.
Let me tell you about my experience there!
Upon entering La Carreta, I immediately noticed the inviting and festive atmosphere.
The moment I was seated, I was greeted with complimentary chips and salsa – a tasty and generous touch that is always appreciated.
As for the food, I decided to order the chef's special – a mouthwatering mix of chicken, shrimp, vegetables, and pineapple, all grilled to perfection.
I must say, it was absolutely delicious and even surpassed my expectations!
The tall mug of beer I ordered was the perfect complement to the meal.
I am also impressed with the excellent service at La Carreta.
Taco Del Mar
One of the places that I always find myself coming back to is Taco Del Mar.
My partner and I just love their fast, cheap, and tasty offerings - it has become one of our go-to spots for a quick and satisfying meal.
Their taco servings are filled to the brim and very filling.
I do wish they would extend their hours until at least 8 pm so that more people could enjoy their amazing food in the evenings.
Jack's Steakhouse & Seafood
My friends and I decided to visit Jack's Steakhouse & Seafood last weekend for a nice dinner.
We had heard mixed reviews about the place, but we wanted to try it out for ourselves.
When we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised by the Halloween decorations, which added a fun atmosphere to our dining experience.
We started with the mussels, which were quite tasty.
My partner had the sirloin steak while I ordered ribeye.
Our friends enjoyed the BeefnReef and the shrimp dishes, which were cooked well and had generous portions.
I remember my first visit to Jimmy V's quite vividly.
I walked in during the night, feeling a bit unwelcome and unsure of the place.
I decided to give the place another try during the day and found out that they don't have someone to greet and usher you to a table – you just find one for yourself.
I ordered the Stromboli and Zeppoles, which turned out to be delicious.
It wasn't all about the food, though.
I also enjoyed the atmosphere at Jimmy V's, which had a laid-back bar vibe that suited my taste.
And to top it all off, their Firehouse Philly was a unique and tasty treat that I don't think I'll forget anytime soon.
Whenever I have friends or family visiting Bismarck, I make sure to take them to one of my favorite spots, Anima Cucina.
The atmosphere of the place has a European vibe, which I absolutely love.
The display of gourmet baked goods right up front never fails to entice me and to be honest, I find it hard to resist trying them all!
Their food is nothing short of spectacular.
I remember having the walleyed dish deep-fried to perfection with a light, non-oily crust, served on a bed of greens with a delectable sauce.
During weekends, Anima Cucina offers an excellent brunch menu and lunch sandwiches alongside their delicious coffee drinks.
I recently had a delightful lunch with a friend, and I was really impressed with the freshness and flavor of the salad, topped with shaved parmesan cheese, orange slices, and pine nuts.
My vegetarian sandwich was equally delicious, packed with tasty veggies and a generous slice of provolone cheese.
Kobe's Japanese Steak House and Sushi Bar
I had the pleasure of attending my nephew's 14th birthday at Kobe's Japanese Steak House and Sushi Bar recently, and it was an unforgettable evening.
The food itself was fantastic, with a wide variety of both sushi rolls and teppanyaki dishes.
I couldn't resist trying the Eel Avocado sushi roll, which was delicious, while my partner raved about the filet hibachi.
I've also heard great things about their Twin of the Sea, Passion Roll, Rainbow Roll, gyoza, and miso soup from friends who have been patrons of Kobe's for years.
What I love most about Kobe's is that it's a place where you can bring friends and family together for a memorable night.
The lively atmosphere, fantastic food, and top-notch service make it a must-visit destination for both locals and visitors alike.
Shogun Japanese Steakhouse, Sushi & Thai
I absolutely love going to Shogun Japanese Steakhouse, Sushi & Thai for a relaxing meal with family and friends.
The dimly lit atmosphere is perfect for an intimate dining experience, and the decor is simply gorgeous.
The green chairs in the middle of the restaurant really add a pop of color and make the whole place feel welcoming.
Their lunch specials, available Monday through Saturday until 3 pm, are a fantastic deal.
The onion soup is always a favorite of mine, and their California Roll is one of the best I've ever had.
I've even had the chance to watch the sushi chef prepare it right in front of me!
On special occasions, I'll splurge on the dinner Habachi, which comes with noodles and vegetables.
It's always a generous portion, and I often take some home for later.
One of the highlights of Shogun is their hibachi table-side cooking.
I also enjoy their tempura shrimp and veggies.
They're crispy, delicious, and always cooked to perfection.
Stadium Sports Bar
I must say that one of my favorite go-to spots, whenever I need a place to hang out and watch some sports, is none other than Stadium Sports Bar.
The atmosphere inside is just perfect for a laid-back evening, with its casual, lodge-like interior making me feel right at home.
One of the things I really appreciate is their excellent customer service.
Speaking of food, their buffalo-ranch dipping sauce is something you definitely need to try!
It's incredibly delicious and adds a nice kick to any dish.
Another aspect that I love about Stadium Sports Bar is that it caters to different preferences.
One of my favorite dining spots in Bismarck has to be JaBomb.
The atmosphere is lovely, and the seating is comfortable, which makes every visit a delightful experience.
What I really like about this place is their extensive selection of top-shelf drinks at the bar, making it perfect for unwinding after a long day.
I am not exaggerating when I say that this is one of the friendliest restaurants I've ever been to.
The food at JaBomb is phenomenal!
I especially love their noodle bowls – they are so tasty and filling.
Plus, their cute little booths make the dining experience even more enjoyable.
JaBomb is definitely a gem in Bismarck, and I can't wait to go back again!
I've visited Scotty's Drive-In on multiple occasions.
In the past, I've had some great experiences with their classic fast food and friendly service.
Visiting this local shop was always a nice break from the big chain restaurants, and their prices were quite reasonable.
The music they were playing during dinner was enjoyable and not too loud.
Plus, the food are to die for.
Sickies Garage Burgers & Brews
Let me tell you, I've been to a lot of burger joints in my time, but Sickies Garage Burgers & Brews really takes the cake.
I've been going there pretty regularly for the past couple of months, and each visit has been better than the last.
The variety of inventive burgers and sandwiches they offer is mind-blowing, and it's always exciting to try something new from their menu.
I've tried quite a few of their burgers, and I have to say, the macaroni and cheeseburger are my absolute favorite.
The burger is cooked to perfection, and the combination of flavors from the mac and cheese is heavenly.
My friends and I also love trying the different beers on tap.
The Sickie's Blonde Ale is a crowd favorite among our group.
The atmosphere inside Sickies is vibrant and inviting, with a full bar and a great selection of brews.
It's a fantastic spot to hang out, enjoy some delicious food, and spend time with friends.
Bismarck has a fantastic and diverse culinary scene that should not be missed.
I've had the pleasure of dining at many of these establishments, and each one offers something unique and delicious.
From the bold flavors of India Clay Oven Bar and Grill to the comforting dishes at Little Cottage Café, there's something for everyone's taste buds in this charming city.
